"Hi Corvida! long time no blog....:-( The reason for me is I have just finished school and started work! The plus side of that is that my job is that of eLearning Support Officer at my local University in the UK and a major aspect of the work will be to investigate Web 2.0 concepts and applications to see how they can be applied to Higher Ed. This is rather a new concept for the UK Higher Education mainstream (certainly out in the backwaters, if not in the big cities) and I am currently developing a social network for staff to share ideas, thoughts, best practice and so on in eLearning, using the Ning platform. This will be quite radical for some staff members, so I will be reporting back on my experiences and findings over the coming weeks and months on ffynnonweb.com Any hints, tips and so on are always warmly welcomed and appreciated by me! "My Union has a strong presence on Facebook and you have to join our college network using your college email so you can be verified. I dont think the college staff themselves post on these places yet though. On the positive side, they are hoping to increase awareness of social media as they develop their elearning provision so there is hope that things will improve shortly." - Julia

"I am not good on the phone...I struggle with real time conversations when I cant see people and read their body language...sounds a bit silly I know, but IM petrifies me and I always get my OH to answer the phone. I love talking online in blog comments, twitter friendfeed and forums because it isnt instant and gives me time to collect my thoughts I expect.
I always have great ideas for blog posts when I am busy doing something else and think oh yes i'll say that, do this and then when I do get a minute to spare, I cant remember these fab ideas!!

I have likened online social networks like those on Ning.com to the old MSN Communities of which I was a member and I think your comparison of bulletin boards with Friendfeed strikes much the same chord.
