"TiVo becomes the latest Silicon Valley company to resort to laying employees off as it “manages through the challenges presented by a difficult economic climate,” as well as what it, perhaps euphemistically refers to as “a rapidly evolving retail consumer market.” Perhaps “devolving” would be the more appropriate verb choice. Or does TiVo know something about other changes in consumer habits, in addition to the evidently growing consumer fad of, well, consuming less." - Chris White
I love snark. - Chris White
Do layoffs mean you maybe hired more full-timers than you should have? Perhaps the time is right for us all to become consultants. - Daniel J. Pritchett
Don't they need someone to deliver pizzas? - Mona N.
Daniel: TiVo's headcount has remained pretty steady over time. There are a lot of companies more deserving of the 'you hired too quickly and now you pay the price' snark than TiVo is. This is a sad day for TiVo and many of my friends who work there. - Kevin Fox
I ♡ TiVo. We have two, including a Series 1 and an HD. They pioneered this market and should have gotten much bigger than they have. Great product. - Louis Gray
Louis, I feel the same way. There are just a handful of products / services that are in the same class as TiVo in my book. - Mike Doeff
The problem TiVo ran into (and WebTV also) was that the cable companies control everything. Once they partnered with companies with better UIs, they created internal projects to build their own DVRs, and then ended the partnerships. It's an unfortunate reality of business that there are strategic issues beyond user experience that determine success. - Chris White

Touch, definitely - Capn' One-Eye ☠
touch - Jamie
16Gb 1st Gen Touch here. Got it when they first came out. I not only don't leave the house without it, I rarely leave a room without it. - Mark VandenBerg
I've got a 1G Touch and I love it. - Bill Sodeman
def. a touch. - Joshua Schnell
Touch. No question. - Nick Reynolds via fftogo
The Nano. If you hate being awesome. - Phil Glockner
If you'll be going running with you iPod, then the Nano is better, otherwise get a Touch. - Paul Grav

“What are some songs that you used to really like, that now, you can't stand?”
yesterday at 1:19 am - Link
For me, that would be anything from Crystal Waters. At one time, Gypsy Woman and 100% Pure Love were high on the list. I just deleted them from iTunes after years of skipping them. - Louis Gray
Also include: Anything by the Red Hot Chili Peppers. One time, they were seriously alternative. Now, I just skip or change the station. - Louis Gray
Achey Breaky Heart. Cotton-eyed Joe by Rednex. All I Want for Christmas is My Two Front Teeth (ok I was 8 when I last liked that one) - Phil Glockner
Sliding but not completely fired: Smashing Pumpkins, Radiohead. (And yes, I know these are bands and not songs) - Louis Gray
Man, I love all the songs and artists you guys mentioned. Maybe I'm still stuck in the 90s? - Jesse Stay
Yeah, RHCP seem to be rubbish these days. - Richard Bradshaw
Anything by Lamb. I wore out the first two albums and just can't stand to listen any more. - Kevin D. White
I wear my sunglasses at night, most things by Peter Gabriel. Too much play, get bored with it. - dan
Being part of the party scene here, take any new club song release, give me 3 months and I'm sick of it. - Mark Martinez
Louis, I hate you. I now have that as an earworm... la-da-dee-da-da-da, la-da-dee-da-da. ARG! - Cyndy
Most stuff by Sting - Tad, Fool
i used to love Rhianna's Umbrella song - now its turned off as soon as it starts - Stephanie Pickett
any thing by or with Kanye West... Yes he's talented but every time he issues a statement or does an interview I want to slap the taste out of is mouth. Along that line of thinking you can throw "The Puff Daddy" (or what ever the kids are calling him now) to my needs to be slapped up list... - J. Abdul-Qahhar
The eighties. All of it. - Slippy Lane
Almost everything I played when I was on the air. You think YOU'RE tired of the stuff you hear on the radio. After the 50,000th play of "Heartache Tonight," the violent thoughts begin. - Chris Baskind
No such thing! I can go the other direction, but once it's liked, it's liked forever. - Josh Haley

Simple answer: yes. Same question: should every outward facing employee have a face? - Lars Trieloff
Absolutely - Aram Zucker-Scharff
I almost said no, because janitors and other people don't really deal with customers, do they? But then I remembered the lady who cleaned my hotel room. She said hi and asked if she could make my stay better. Made my feelings about Sheraton go up. So, everyone affects the brand and everyone is customer facing and everyone can affect our understanding of what the company does, or help us have a better experience with it. - Robert Scoble
Yes. It makes them easier to contact and simpler to manage. - Tyler Hurst via twhirl
Robert: I'd argue that janitors and cleaning staff aren't outward-facing employees. - Kevin Fox
Kevin: I'd argue that they are. Everyone comes into contact with other human beings and they all represent the company in some way every day. If you hire great people all the way through your organization, you won't have to worry. If you hire idiots, then I'd worry about this stuff. - Robert Scoble
No. Most outward-facing employees are already outward-facing and present in the ways they need to be by default. Plastering them on a billboard for people unrelated to see, or opening them up personally for disgruntled customers to stalk... seems to be going a bit far. - abacab
I would say it depends. If you have a sales team with 100 people why not a blog for the team and then each individual member can blog. 100 blogs is maybe taking it a bit far? - Sofia
I think its should be up to the employee. - John P. Kreiss
Any question that begins with "Should Every..." I stop reading immediately. Every situation is different - Bwana
Some companies require their employees to blog, and they are measured by how many blog posts they've written per quarter. Sounds productive. [sarcasm intended] - Chris White
That's true, Chris, but I seriously doubt that the employees that are required to do so are, say, tellers, clerks, cashiers or janitors. - Stupid Blogger (aka Tina)
No, but I also doubt it enhances their performance in doing their jobs. Nobody wants to read these corporate blogs. It's just part of upper management's desire to be on the cutting edge. Leave the blogging to the bloggers. - Chris White
