"Critics say Mswati, who has courted controversy for his lavish lifestyle while two thirds of his subjects live in poverty, sets a bad example by encouraging polygamy and teenage sex in a country where about 40 percent of adults live with HIV." - Justin Long via Bookmarklet
“While I realize it can be misused, I wish there were a way to tell a browser to open up multiple tabs at the same time. I have a source file that lists a bunch of different news sources for various countries. I'd like to click and open them all sources for a country at once. Any ideas?”
Richard Cizik, vice president for Governmental Affairs at the National Association of Evangelicals, gave a three-fold definition: "(1) the Bible is authoritative (i.e., infallible and inerrant in original autographs) in faith and practice; (2) born-again experience (i.e., a conversion to believe in and follow Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord through rebirth by the Holy Spirit); (3) shares this message of faith with others through evangelism and social witness." He admitted, however, that even his three-fold test is not perfect. - Justin Long via Bookmarklet
Interesting. David Martyn-Lloyd Jones has a pretty awesome book called "What Is An Evangelical". Over here in Oz, we don't have such a big link between Church and State. - Stu Andrews via twhirl
Probably one of the best I've read so far - I haven't read Jones' - was "The uneasy conscience of modern fundamentalism" by Carl F. H. Henry - this was back when fundamentalism = evangelical, in 1947, not today, when not all evangelicals are fundamentalists (and not all fundamentalists, I suppose, would call themselves evangelical). - Justin Long
I think too, that Fundamentalist has different meanings in different places. I know it's different over here than in the States. But also, meant a different thing to me growing up Presbtyterian than my friends Anglican. Actually, that's a pretty obvious statement. All these words have different meanings all over the place. In the end, people will be coming at these conversations with their own ideas, their own experiences. It always bothers me when the press over here equate Catholocism with Christianity .. but that's my own problem, because I was brought up in a certain way, believing certain things. Urg, apoligies, babbling post. - Stu Andrews via twhirl
“Another interesting thing is that your posts typically have to be visible to your readers during the time they are awake -- if you are on the other side of the world (like me) then by the time your readers wake up, your posts have scrolled off after all their other friends.”
Kidnapping Christians for ransom money has unfortunately become a common occurrence in Iraq. Many Muslims kidnappers are motivated by the false notion that Christians have relatives living in western countries that can send money for their release. - Justin Long via Bookmarklet

"Twenty years after Ronald Reagan left office, Republicans who have long missed him may have found a future Margaret Thatcher. If John McCain wins, conservatives may find one of the most enduring accomplishments of his term will have been what he did before it started: helping to fill the Republican Party's future talent bench with such a fresh and compelling figure." - Justin Long via Bookmarklet
