I don't feel him on the Mac stuff... but the longer they stonewall, the more I'm resenting Apple for putting the kabosh on Google Voice on the iPhone. It's just not right.

Google Voice is NOT a VOIP app. It doesn't transmit voice over IP networks so there is no reason for AT&T or Apple to be threatened on that level. IF you use Gizmo on the PC or Mac, you can receive a GV call on the computer, but in most cases, all of its calls are made over a traditional phone line, whether it be a land line or a cell phone

Apple tells the FCC that their amazing user interface would be "replaced" by a Google Voice app... disabling their visual voicemail... What a bunch of baloney! - http://www.apple.com/hotnews...
"Contrary to published reports, Apple has not rejected the Google Voice application, and continues to study it. The application has not been approved because, as submitted for review, it appears to alter the iPhone’s distinctive user experience by replacing the iPhone’s core mobile telephone functionality and Apple user interface with its own user interface for telephone calls, text messaging and voicemail. Apple spent a lot of time and effort developing this distinct and innovative way to seamlessly deliver core functionality of the iPhone. For example, on an iPhone, the “Phone” icon that is always shown at the bottom of the Home Screen launches Apple’s mobile telephone application, providing access to Favorites, Recents, Contacts, a Keypad, and Visual Voicemail. The Google Voice application replaces Apple’s Visual Voicemail by routing calls through a separate Google Voice telephone number that stores any voicemail, preventing voicemail from being stored on the iPhone, i.e.,...

I left Twitter for Jaiku. Then Jaiku left me for Google. I moved in with Pownce but it died. I went back to Twitter, but flirted with Plurk, Identica, and Rejaw, and even tried doing it myself with Laconica but it was Twitter I really loved. Twitter finally broke my heart so I left it for Friendfeed. Now Friendfeed is leaving me for Facebook. No...
It reads better than Soap - my roadmap is very similar but I'll forgive FF and live happily ever after with it (for the time being, anyway)

You're the best Leo. Canadians are the funniest people.
- Dan Lessard
I'm betting they'll slowly digest it into the Facebook news feed. They claim that Friendfeed is staying put for now, but that won't last.
- Ken Bauer
And we keep following Leo all over the place!
- Robert Scoble
When will we all get in a long term relationship and stop getting our hearts broken?
- Nate Pilling
so what is more important, the medium or the people, hope that FF will let us export our content, and our social netork :) (in my wild dreams)
- abdellah
Need ice cream? I'm new to FF, and kind of sad I didn't jump on the proverbial wagon sooner!

I hope you leave your standard breadcrumbs so we can find you in the next chapter of social interaction.

Feels to me like maybe it's time to go back to building a distributed network, rather than hopping from service to service.
- Ken Sheppardson
But where to next? That's the question. Wave sounds great, but the implementation will be a PAIN. So where? Oh LeoMoses...where is our path in the desert?
- ‘-.-’ Tutivillus Grift
Sounds like a hurtin' country song in the making.
- Bill Rodman
Well you can't say that what is happening in the 'social sphere' is boring by any means!
- Matt Cassem
I think Leo's audience is more likely to click "Like" or "comment" than Scoble's is. When Leo and Rob are both posting on FF, Leo gets more likes and comments
- Mark
Didn't you leave a post earlier saying how funny it was that people complain anytime there's a change (referring to the FF buyout)? This sounds like a complaint to me.
- Fleagle
Not complaining - just thinking about the future. I think a little Friendfeed DNA will vastly improve Facebook. And I think Facebook is already the big winner with the general populace. I also think we geeks need a corner somewhere else to hang out in.
- Leo Laporte
And I have no plans to leave Friendfeed. Yet.
- Leo Laporte
I feel more of a personal connection with the FriendFeed team than I have with other services I've left, and that will be a big part of why I will stay as long as possible.
- Louis Gray
^^^ replace "team" with "community" and there's my reason for sticking it out.
- jcunwired
Its also going to take a very long time to go through content and bookmark/store it elsewhere. Evernote is going to be used heavily in the weeks to come.

The only way to have control is to use your own URL

What they said, I don't see any reason to leave FriendFeed unless something actually changes that makes the service worthless to me.

I just had the idea: wow, how good will Faceboook become though this input? (JUST imagine tagging ppl in FB the way U can Tag them in FF.)

I agree with Jonathan Hardesty "It's like the internet version of Days of Our Lives" - And sites keep getting killed off only to come back to life a month later!
- Amy Flynn
very true, however on the other hand, we are getting closer to that one service which everyone will be on... and I dont think twitter is going to be that one
- Bryce Campbell
Facebook buying FriendFeed is like having to MOVE just when you got your house all dressed up and made into a comfy HOME! I don't feel like doing it again!
- Arleen Anderson
Now that Facebook and Friendfeed have married, I'm waiting for Twitfacefeedplebospacening.
- Anthony Marco
Leo, u by your self made two companies (services) out of 3 famous and made Google interested enough to buy 2 of them (Jaiku & FF). Google also tried to flirt with Twitter as well. So which one u choose now? Cause we will follow u :P
- Sam Ehsan
Sounds like some of my past love affairs. Of course, I'm married now. That, um, was prior.

Speaking of Days Of Our Lives: Didn't that show jump the shark when the serial killer was unmasked as Marlena (a character I used to have a mad crush on, and who's now mostly a professional victim)? Then all the "killed" characters came back to life, since they were only what I call "soap opera dead"...
- Dennis Jernberg
And if everyone follows you, then your all having affairs all over the place! LOL

I think it's back to the TWiT Army!

I've decided I'm not going to tell ANYONE which site I'm favoring... not even myself! I swear! As soon as I decided that FF was my new place (a couple months ago) THIS happens! It's like magic, but in a bad bad way...
- Mark "DerBingle" J
Why do we all assume this is a bad thing? Maybe the FF Facebook combo will be better??
- Craig Shipp
Maybe they'll keep both open -- FF is the open side, and FB is the closed side.

I know exactly how you feel. What's a person to do? I am mad at Twitter for suspending some of my accounts. First, the accounts kept causing the password to reset, then they were suspended, all around the time of the DOS attacks. All I ever used Twitter for was to advertise my businesses, and for fun. Now I don't know where to go.

I think a lot of people LOVE to think negatively and don't want to think positively. They think FB is BAD and will ruin FF, but I think if they do it well, FB won't be the bad guy. I think most people who are irked about this are irked because they think the FFers "sold out" to the "man".
- Molly, "sorry"
@Mollyanna - I disagree. I am irked because the future of FF is completely uncertain. It's more likely that FB will let FF flounder and close it down than it is that FB will invest time and resources in maintaining and enhancing FF. FB has other interests and is splitting up the FF dev team. That does not bode well for FF. I don't begrudge the FF devs for taking the money. I would be...

I was on the fence for a while, but echo has pushed me to test it out. Sorry Backtype, giving the other guy a try :)
- Bwana ☠
Echo sounds too unfocused. I still want conversation to center around my blog. Comments aren't dead, IMO, despite what JS-Kit wants you to think.
- Jesse Stay
Bwana: No worries—hope you find a comment system you're happy with!
- Christopher Golda
What does JS-Kit have over Disqus or Intense Debate?
- Justin Bradshaw
I REALLY want this for my game pages. I currently use the static Facebook comments box. Real-time comment updates would create a much more interesting experience. Players could essentially "chat" as they played my games. Here is one of my current sites with the Facebook comments: http://www.farseergames.com/diverga...
- Jeff Weber
Jesse: I see Echo as pulling conversations BACK to my blog. At least that's my thesis after seeing it demoed. I will try it and we'll see.
- Robert Scoble
Weblog, shmeblog. I'm fine commenting on your articles through FriendFeed. That's part of the benefit of installing the FF sidebar isn't it?
- Mitch
Robert: "I see Echo as pulling conversations BACK to my blog." Can you elaborate this point further? :)
- jan geronimo
Jan: yes, a lot of my behavior is to pull people from Twitter to FriendFeed to have real time converstions. Soon, thanks to Echo, I will be able to pull them to my blog instead. That will be a huge shift for me.
- Robert Scoble
Thanks, Robert. Huge point for Echo. Just integrated Disqus in my blog. And now I have to lust after another platform? :) Will keep tabs on how well it works for your blog.
- jan geronimo
Robert, Disqus already brings those conversations back to your blog, on a much larger platform. Just enter you social network credentials in your blog's profile settings.
- Jesse Stay
They've actually had that for months now. :-)
- Jesse Stay
Robert: Just curious, what is real time about it?
- Daniel Ha
What about SEO? Are the ECHOed comments on your blog seen by search engines? Also, I'm just getting used to the live conversations on FF and like this format very much.
- ASKJDOG
Daniel: Real time is all about having conversations like this one.. in real time, rather than posting a comment, then waiting for a reply as with traditional blog commenting. I was asking the same question just a couple of days ago :)
- ASKJDOG
The big difference to me, is with real-time: Player 1 can be playing one of my games with the comment window visible off to the side. Player 2, playing my game somewhere else in the world makes a comment about the game. Player 1 sees that comment instantly and can respond if they like. It allows a conversation to be struck on the spot. Would work the same way with blog posts...
- Jeff Weber
I didn't realize echo was real time...but I was just falling in love with disqus. I suppose if they go real time it could change things.
- Mark Essel
Can someone suggest an app that will keep two folders in sync between two macs? Or mirror one to the other? I have photos on my MacBook Pro that I would like to keep synced to my wife's Mac. I thought about DropBox which I currently use but I don't want to sync everything I put there to my wife's Mac. Thanks!
Try Live Sync from Microsoft, just google it.
- Zachary TG
does the data really need to be on both systems? If not, then a simple NAS such as a thecus YES box could be the solution for centrally storing it in the house. Copy across any files you want to take with you on your macbook.
- alphaxion
I tried a couple these but ended up just syncing using SyncBackPro from my Windows 7 box. It's manual but easy and the files are all on there as well because of Dropbox.
- Jim Graham
you could do it locally with rsync (terminal app).
- Joshua Schnell
I think a couple of the apps I tried are front ends for rsync, the best of those appeared to be Backup+.
- Jim Graham
You could try SugarSync for just plain file syncronization... or with a Mac, you might just want to manually drag from iPhoto to iPhoto over a network, which is pretty easy.
- Justin Bradshaw
Google Voice is going to change the way you think about the phone.... and communication in general. Everyone owes it to themselves to check this out!

""If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?" is a philosophical riddle that raises questions regarding observation and knowledge of reality."
- Bill Romanos
from Bookmarklet
Sound occurs between the ear and the brain while noise occurs between the impact and the ear. Think of all the electro magnetic signals created before the radio was invented. Was there any reception? Noise = broadcast, Sound = reception. The only thing philosophical about the statement is the redefinition of the two words by modern science. Check out the signal/noise ratio of your stereo system, or friendfeed for that matter. ( this comment = static )
- Wallace
I was just wondering if it was the observing or the measuring that creates the quantum solidification. do you know? or are they the same?
- Mot Faerin
Since one would be embeded as a quantum system in a larger quantum system the act of observing occurs as a measurement. They are basically the same. An act of observation consists of a measurement.
- Jillian Ada Burrows
With quantum decoherence, though, all macroscopic phenomena end up collapsing the wave function anyway. What is meant by "observer" doesn't necessarily mean "consciousness"
- Victor Ganata
It's a dumb question to which there are a lot of smart answers here. What the heck is "quantum solidification"?
- Justin Bradshaw
Another way of understanding this riddle is as a talking point between philosophical empiricism (what you can see and measure is real) vs. idealism (everything is a projection of your own thoughts) - a very old philosophical debate between John Locke and Bishop Barkley. Like all philosophical questions there is no ultimate answer since language, which philosophy (and friendfeed) is conducted in, just isn't up to the job of unpacking the paradoxical truth that it's both and neither at once.
