“I have a very (i couldn't think of an adjective) question. I haven't done this, but, is it okay to grab images from the web and add them to your posts? Sort of, to augment your blog..?”
The only thing I saw there related to your question was the Piknik service video, but I doubt that is what you were asking. I like http://www.sxc.hu/ for finding good quality pictures (specially for compositions and graphic design). Just contact the authors for permission. - Jorge Blanco
The lesson explains how to pick a product and then how to get the picture, you will want the Picture to "be worth a 1000 words" From there you can use generic pictures as Jorge stated make sure they are not copywrited - Mark South
@Mark generic pictures? you mean like google image search pics? and oh by the way, thanks for helping.. - Paul Kendrick Sarcia
You have to check copyright and give credit where credit is due. Not everything that comes up in google search is free to just use whatever way you want, but there are lots out there that are. Just check on it first. - marilyn robertson
I think you can grab freely and legally the shared photos at Photobucket and maybe some at Flikr, too! - Merina
I had the same question a bit back. Yes, you will be in deep POOP if you use pictures that are not owned by you, bought or allowed by the owner. http://www.thirtydaychallenge.... - Sheryl Loch
Adobe AIR has released an update to the Adobe AIR platform. DO NOT UPGRADE... yet The upgrade causes a major bug inside Market Samurai where no keyword traffic data is able to be retrieved. The engineers are working on a solution to this right now. But right now, avoid upgrading to Adobe AIR version 1.5 until a Market Samurai update has been released. Brent" - - Linda
It's almost "high tea"time here so on with my thoughts. I'm a nitpicker for font changes within the text body - last sentence in 7 Oct post (Child's Story); I like the size of the font in this post more than the recent ones. I'd like to see some colour in the background - did you look at the themes called Liceum, Travelog or (for a contrast to digital scrapbooking) Old Paper in WPD? - Kim Baillie
Liceum is what I used for LJFWolffe.com, with a re-done header.jpg. - LJF Wolffe
Hit the enter key too soon, sorry! How about making the title Digital Scrapbook Software - A Blog for the Creative or something that starts with your keywords rather than "the". Check the capitalisation in your categories as well. - Kim Baillie
Yes and I love it for your page (that's what made me think of it for Groobers) - my comments are about the digital scrapbooking page which I went to from the link in your post :-) - Kim Baillie
Oh, yeah -- just offering it as an example, since I know she's seen it. 8-} - LJF Wolffe
I know I'm always repeating the same thing, but with Adsense, the first glimpse that you get at the site is: The title (which could be improved as previously stated), the GoogleAds and the Sales offer. Practically no content that draws the viewer in. - Jorge Blanco
On the plus side, I love the big pictures and the short sentences, makes it stand out, easy to read and is not overwhelming at all. You might want to rewrite the sales offer copy to make it even punchier. You might want to experiment with "Read more" links in your main page, instead of having the full articles displayed. - Jorge Blanco
Put alt tags for your pics! You might be missing on google image searches! - Jorge Blanco
LJF- I should really have taken this site down as I have been thinking about starting again from scratch (comfort zone and all that) but now with all these helpful comments, do you think I should try them first before starting again? I am not sure what to do now, I would feel a bit mean if you had all gone to all this trouble and I just started a fresh blog...What to do, what to do? - Groobers
Don't worry, starting over takes courage. It doesn't mean that all the work in that page has to go to waste though. You can still get something out of it. Ed and Gurubob talk about that in the last days of the challenge. My only advice would be to prioritize. For me, starting my second blog takes priority. - Jorge Blanco
Groobers I think you are getting excellent feedback and I do believe that there really is a market for this out there. I was just speaking with my film developer and he was saying how there are so many people who are going back to film because they just aren't getting their pictures out of their cameras. This tells me that they really don't know what they can do with them. and don't know what to do with them besides just printing them out. If there was a process to make that easier and people saw how digital scrapbooking can work than maybe you have really found a powerful niche market? Just my couple of pennies worth today. - Elizabeth
Hi Groobers. If there is a market for the things you have to offer, and if you like the niche, why don't you try it? Well, finally it is your decision, and it might be that you won't have a success with this one. But I remember in one of the videos about niche marketing, Ed Dale said that he needed far more than one try to make a real success (was is about a dozen or more?) What I wanna say is: keep going and trying. The time you spent in this niche is well spent, since all the techniques you learnt and applied are valuable for other niches. Keep going! Persistance is everything, as they say! - Bjoern Krause
Paraphrasing Ed Dale: Most of the people that succeeded on the 30dc actually started all over again from scratch in the middle of the challenge. Reference: The first day when you evaluate your blog's success. (Sorry, forgot which day exactly) - Jorge Blanco
I've started all over again twice and starting to see it work, finally - keep the faith! - shawnsmith
Ha-ha - true, one of those restarters was me! - s thomas
Thanks to everyone for the fantastic help, comments and advise I will be working hard to take action on during the following days, months, years(I have promised myself to slow down). I have a question for everyone do people still want to continue with the "Ask Not What Your Room Can Do For You..." thing, if so is it up to me to choose again? - Groobers
You can choose, or someone can nominate their blog or a friend's (hint, hint) . . . - LJF Wolffe
Good someone else can choose, I hate choosing, way too difficult now that this room is becoming such a source of great information, provided by so many individuals (2001 room members and counting) Wow. - Groobers
I think that Groobers should be the next blog critiqued - Mark South
Groobers' blog is the one linked to at the beginning of this thread . . . Groobers, do you have another? One you'd like people to look at? - LJF Wolffe
My bad I thought it was your LJF... In that Case I change my vote to LJF - Mark South
But we did mine first . . . How 'bout yours? 8-) - LJF Wolffe
This is all getting very confusing (my fault, should have done a new post) LJF Wolffe you asked if I had another one for people to look at, if no one minds me suggesting again, how about Elizabeth (she is always willing to help people out, while working really hard at the same time to grasp all of this information, and more importantly act on it) Elizabeth has my vote. - Groobers
Cool! I think that's a great idea. According to her FF home page, her blog is http://scentsiblewellness.blog.... Elizabeth, should we look at this site for you, or is there another? Let us know! - LJF Wolffe
WOW - I am humbled and flattered all at the same time.:-) I am also feeling a little bared. Sure I would love for you guys to give me feed back on my http://www.ScentsibleWellness..... Here is some back ground: this was my first attempt at a site for my home based business and my first attempt at blogging. I put this together prior to the 30DC and didn't follow any rules other than what I was able to ascertain from all my various reading. - Elizabeth
Sorry to keeo going but I wanted to be sure to point out that I get a good amount of good organic google traffic but I have had extremely poor conversion and have not been able to build a list. That all said I would love some constructive criticism and helpful feedback. Thanks everyone - really I feel so blessed to have found all of you and am very grateful for all the help you all give on a daily basis! - Elizabeth
Ok, In general I like this blog. Here's my 2cents: You might want to consider writing something more attractive than "click on the kit for more information". If this is your main offer you should at least give a teaser line or something to engage the visitor. - Jorge Blanco
Also you may want to consider changing the theme of the blog. Not that there is anything wrong with this one, but you have a lot of products in your sidebar and they run all the way down where nobody sees them. If you switch to a 3 column theme you might be able to fit the blog navigation on the left of the posts and the products on the right. - Jorge Blanco
Thanks Jorge - I see what you mean about "click on the.." I Need to put more thought to that. Do you think that I should offer some free info (like a report) to the viewer and then use that to lead them to more information on the kit? With regard to the 3 column, I absolutely agree and was going to switch from blogger to WP prior to taking on the 30dc. Now since I've had exposure to WP through the 30DC I admit I am afraid of the learning curve and time involved in making the switch. WP is intense! - Elizabeth
