Brave, indeed. The arched brow says everything. :)

We all try to show our best side to the outside world, particularly when it's with regard to business. But is it really disingenuous to show a happy face any more than it would be to show a scowl? Neither represents you or the collective us 100% of the time. Does this mean we need a chart with all our moods on it to greet potential clients? :) I do like the arched brow. hehe
- Sheryl
Sorry to say this, Louis, but I will attempt to run away if I see someone coming to me bearing that smile you have on the second photo. I'd be like, "Darnit, here's another salesman wanting to pressure me into buying some thingamajig again..." No offense, Louis. But even for marketing, I really think you can do without the oh-so-friendly smile :-)

There are a handful of apps that do this by now - including one, Bargain Bin, which does push notifications when an app you're tracking hits a target price (or just when apps go to free if you choose).

"Keep Fucking That Chicken": Ernie Anastos, News Anchor, Curses On Air (VIDEO) --- Say hello to the new phrase that's sure to sweep the nation! - http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009...
"Legendary New York broadcaster Ernie Anastos had a momentary lapse of reason Wednesday night when he dropped the F-bomb live on TV. During some playful banter with local weatherman Nick Gregory, Anastos complimented Gregory, or at least attempted to, by saying, "It takes a tough man to make a tender forecast, Nick." Looking confused, Gregory responded, "I guess that's me." Without missing a beat, Anastos continued, "Keep fucking that chicken," a completely bewildering phrase that made co-anchor Dari Alexander's eyes bug out of her head. Gregory, for his part, just threw his hands up and shook his head."

Why is this a "video tape" of a screen and audio from the speakers? Just seem odd to me, is this how someone "records" their TV programs?
- Stephen Christian
I swear, it feels like that guy belongs in an episode of Family Guy. If this vid become viral enough, I'm sure he'll make a cameo on there.

There's a reason why I've never autofollowed. Now you know. ;)
- Dennis Jernberg
It's interesting that twitter's predecessor - CB radio - never had such a feature in the first place.
- Ian Tindale
Just FYI, one lingering aftereffect of a mass unfollow is that twitter retains state that you once followed them. If you follow them again, you don't appear at the top of their list where a new follower would normally go. This can make it look like you re-followed, but then unfollowed them _again_. Theres no privacy on a computer, its not about the internet alone.
- TrafficBug
there's plenty of privacy on the net.. have you never heard of encryption? (of both traffic and individual files) the right to alias? If a person wants privacy, they can get it. This "privacy is dead" meme needs to stop. By all means, call out a site that is abusing the data that inevitably ends up in their logs/databases, but don't claim something to be absent because you can't think of a way of keeping hold of it.
- alphaxion
alphaxion - even the strongest encryption is only as strong as the human holding the keys in the meatspace. 100% secure data is a myth, IMHO, but getting close to 100% security is possible with a meticulously careful human. We likely agree on this.
- Kurt Starnes
um.. I'd say my SHA1 triple DES encrypted VPN tunnel was secure enough ;) You're thinking encryption keys are their pet name or something. I can assure you, I could encrypt something that you'd never get into without aquiring a quantum computer and some serious genius ;P
- alphaxion
I'm not talking about cracking the encryption - my reference was to finding weaknesses between the human and the computer.
- Kurt Starnes
from BuddyFeed
I agree that the greatest weakness is the human at the machine, but when it comes to your privacy on the net, if you encrypt your traffic, stop sharing every bit of info about you under your full name then you can expect some. "Privacy is dead" is the meme I was refuting by offering suggestions on how you can keep it.

I really need to spend a half hour or so going over my backup-upgrade strategy. Every time I upgrade my box, I copy the entire filesystem to another drive, then do a clean install, then, for archival purposes I copy the entire thing back to the new system in a subdir.
Then I can cherry pick the things I actually regularly use and move them into place. But I still want to keep the old home dirs around, so now I have a bunch of /home/backup/MACHINENAME-DISTRONAME-backup.tar and such files. My naming scheme and directory structure for all this isn't even all that great. I need to just copy these to my file server and be done with it.
- Andy Bakun
And what's cool about this setup is that I end up with a clean system, because of the fresh install, and can still access everything in the backup because it's effectively a chroot environment.
- Andy Bakun
Louis, that looks awful. That is also the main reason why I have choosen JS-Kit for my blogs; no spam seen up till now (they use Akismet; that might explain their great performence regarding spam). See http://www.ambtenaar20.nl for this JS-Kit integration. Have tried Disqus before, I hope they will improve the anti-spam functionality!

Ugh. And to think I've ditched JS-Kit for Disqus. lols

People say Twitter is mainstream now - IMHO I think not. On any given day, half of the trending topics seem to be stories published by Mashable or TechCrunch. Until that's not the case, I wouldn't say Twitter is mainstream. Sure it's mentioned by mainstream media all the time but I'm referring mainstream in terms of user base. Agree or disagree?
Holden: To me it seems so. Granted I'm not monitoring trends 24/7 but I do read mashable and TC everday and it seems as though half the posts form each site becoming trending topics during the day
- Mike Bracco
When my mom and dad are both on I'll let you know. That's the true mark of mainstream, my folks are on your service. What that means is Facebook has made it as of July! ;)
- Brian Bufalo
Judging by the trending topics, I'd say Twitter is mainstream or just one step away from it. The trending topics are the sort of stuff you'd see on Facebook or Myspace (although with one or two hard news topics per day).
- Spidra Webster
Perhaps it's just b/c TC and Mashable readers are more apt to use the retweet button while other Twitter users who are not in that audience don't' do it from other sites they visit.
- Mike Bracco
When my Mum asks me "Why did you ignore my Tweet?", it isnot mainstream
- Andy Bold
I think Brian's parent test was a good one - my parents still don't know/understand Twitter, but at least my mom uses Facebook. Twitter is a lot more well-known than before, and it gets a lot of coverage, and people recognize the name, but most still don't know what it does or how it works.
- Ryan - @magicofpi
I agree with Andrew. The topics like #uknowusprung that make you scratch your head far outweigh the others in the top 10. It's not Facebook mainstream but mainstream for sure. So many athletes and celebs on there controlling the trending topics.
- beersage
Twitter is actually mainstream in news distribution, not news making. That was the original purpose of it and it's remaining. You can say with this bias that CNN is nothing 'cuz it's poblish only "other's" stories.
- Mike
Why do I hear people saying RSS is dying because of real time platform? I use my feed and then I share what I want to share on the real time feeds - FriendFeed, actually, using FF to post to Twitter. I couldn't keep up with all the blogs and magazines I read, if I didn't have the feed. It would be impossible.
Ok. I just read an article about it and it and I don't see where it applies to blog feeds. I like subscribing to blogs with my Google reader and then I read them when I'm ready. How does the lazyfeed fill that need? It looks like another aggregater, not a reader.

RSS is not dying at all. It's a necessary part of the infrastructure.
- Louis Gray
Thanks, Louis. I just finished watching your video demo of LazyFeed and it makes a lot of sense. I see it does pull from RSS. Can you subscribe to specific blogs, or is this something I would continue to do in Google Reader, after I'd found an interesting one on LazyFeed by using topics? Also, am I right that LazyFeed is a personal experience as opposed to a social endeavor? I notice...

it'd definitely going to take me a while to get to a million. I'm publishing about 200 photos to flickr a week right now and at this pace it will take 92 years to get there. I'll get the pace up to 400-500 a week in the future though. Better technology should make processing easier and someday my kids will be grown and I'll be able to quit my day job and focus on this even more. The best photos have yet to be taken.
- Thomas Hawk
When I think about this I realize your best days are ahead of you.
- Russellreno
What's your shot/publish ratio? I mean, on average how many shots do you take to produce those you publish?
- Yuval Atzmon
atzmon, I probably average about 2,000 shots a week that I shoot. And I'm probably processing 300 or so of those a week at present, so I'm probably keeping about 15%. The other 85% never get processed and are kept in my archives. I'm trying only to process and publish the shots that I think meet a certain quality criteria.
- Thomas Hawk
You upload a lot more than I do. I have about 40,000 pictures but only about 2000 uploaded. Mostly because I have not gotten around to processing more. =)
- Jauder Ho
from twhirl
Jauder, the good news is that processing will only get easier in the future. I've watched it get better with each successive Adobe release. Lightroom 2.0 is the best processing tool yet. It's not necessarily faster per se though because with more tools there are yet even more ways to tweak a photo hence even more time. But the tools to speed things up are coming too. auto geotagging, better anti dust tech, faster processing speeds, easier online tools with faster broadband are all around the corner.
- Thomas Hawk
16,000 ?? Yikes. Cool number. Congrats.

You know they are going to delete your account without warning once you hit 999,999, right? :)

Ace, I hope not, I'd be so pissed. Actually I think alot of what gets me so upset about all the content/account deletion issues is that I really do worry that it actually will happen to me. Flickr staff hates me and they'd *love* to delete my account. I worry that I'll wake up one morning and everything will have been nuked. I suppose that's why I'd like to see them enact the ability to...

@Chris Gulker. Someday I hope to work with a photo editor. God knows I need to. I like to think of my Flickrstream today more as the raw material in a lot of ways for future projects. A good photo editor adds tremendous value to shaping a photographer's imagery.
