“Trying an experiment here. I added a feed from the twitter account nptechblogs - it will automatically add the tweets from that account which are links to blog posts from nptech blogs. Not sure who set it up. But I just discovered that rooms can have feeds streamed in .. what do you think?”

add more feeds, take off all automated feeds, only certain feeds? - Beth Kanter
I'm not wild about the automated feed entry here. I like that people have to take an action to put something into this room. Makes it feel a little more intentional and different from the stream I already see via RSS. But maybe that's just me. - Marnie Webb
I'm torn. I'm skimming them and finding some good stuff serendipitously, but it's a bit much and seems like it may push the native posts of active friendfeeders too far down the stream. - LauraBrarian
Hi! I created the @nptechblogs feed (so any crashing of computers or other catastrophes, please blame me!) -- and I agree with Marnie. Even the best aggregation doesn't beat a good community. ... What do you think about creating a unique tag which the 200 FriendFeed folks here could use in Delicious and Twitter (and other places) -- and maybe aggregate those in this feed. Could lower barrier of entry. We did this in the Peer to Peer Social Change room -- with the tag "p2pchange" -- http://is.gd/3uxV - Joe Solomon
okay coming back after few days - Marnie I think the automated thing thing - that we both dislike is generational. Old farts like me like intentional ... younger folks are comfortable with the fire hose what do you think? - Beth Kanter
just took the automated feed offf .. I may be to tired .. but wonder if/how impact on membership was attributed to that. I'm pondering Joe's idea .. - Beth Kanter

Now the hard part: how would you like to see this community grow in the future? - Jonathon D. Colman
jonathon if I had a nickel for everytime an online community asked that question .. I'd be rich. What if we gave some sort of reward? I'm too jetlagged right now but not going bonkers travel in dec so more to come - Beth Kanter

Developing good communication metrics is an intelligent intersection of what we are able to measure with what we ought to measure. One of the fascinating things about online communication is how much larger this intersection is. Nevertheless, most organizations are not taking advantage of this fact and are not investing enough thinking in the paths of engagement of their stakeholders - which is what will help determine what should be measured. Nevertheless, I am recommending Rachel Happe's long list of possible Social Media Metrics. She's divided her metrics into five categories: Activity Metrics, Survey Metrics, ROI Measurements, Individual Metrics, and General Internet Tracking. - Beth Kanter

“Something that I'm curious about for wider discussion in our community -- how do the best practices and skills that we've all learned in using social media and online word-of-mouth-marketing to support our causes translate over to either the government or for-profit sectors?”
October 29 at 3:32 pm - Link
More and more of us are presenting or otherwise sharing our strategies in front of audiences that reach businesses and government agencies. What do they see, what do they think when us nptechies describe the importance of community-building? I'm not at all convinced that our strategies will work for them. But what do y'all think? - Jonathon D. Colman
It's interesting, because I've mostly seen things going the other way (at least in terms of the for-profit sector). Most of the influencers in the social media sphere in the nptech sector are influenced heavily by people like Jeremiah Owyang, Chris Brogan, etc. - Michelle Murrain
I smell a need for a blog post - differences and similarities among the sectors. Although many nonprofits have a goal of attracting donations (meaning "selling" and "closing the deal" match the biz sector), that is not the only goal. Trust building, storytelling, educating, getting the word out, relationship building seem much more important to nonprofits than to businesses. - LauraBrarian
lucy bernholz just wrote something along those lines although looking at what can be learned from politics versus business - in a link towards the bottom http://beth.typepad.com/beths_... - Beth Kanter

I love FriendFeed. It is where I spend a very large amount of my Internet time. They are well positioned to really become important next year in the real time web. Find me there at http://www.friendfeed.com/scob... - Robert Scoble
Be siure to review the settings before implementing. If you choose the default settings, then everything from every one of your services (except, of course, Twitter) will be posted to Twitter. Depending upon your usage patterns, this could result in a very noisy Twitter feed. (In fact, I've chosen NOT to implement this on one of my infrequently used Twitter accounts; if I did, that Twitter feed would be dominated by impersonal link messages, which is a turn-off for some people.) - Ontario Emperor
Yeah, I'd really recommend trimming the options, unless you want to have lots of people unfollow you from Twitter quite quickly :) - Ian Betteridge
I saw a suggestion from Josh Bancroft that the defaults be changed so that only "FriendFeed" is checked. Good idea, although for some people even THAT would overwhelm the Twitter feed. But at least it causes people to think. - Ontario Emperor
I'm very curious to see how this FriendFeed to Twitter to Facebook to my new blog, etc. will work ... - Steve Knight
If people want to follow your all around net activity, send em your FF. If you want to annoy people who use Twitter as a communication app, post your FF updates to Twitter. - Mark Frost via twhirl
I'm thinking that sending my FriendFeed stuff to Twitter without the context might could be a bad thing. - Kevin
twitter tweaking is in order folks!! :) I love it, but had to turn off the FF comments posting to twitter - Susan Beebe
+1 Susan I am thisclose to turning off my Twitter feed into FF, don't want to raise the noise level here nor would I elect to feed Twitter from here for the same reason - Dave Martin
infinite loop possibilities are infinite. - thomasrdotorg via twhirl
Robert - You can't possibly be thinking about turning all the FF to Twitter services on. Twitter would have to add bandwidth??!! - Charlie Anzman
Go on! Do it Robert - please! At least just for a week...aww man, i would just laugh solidly for a week. Make sure you keep comments on too...! - Zee from WeDoCreative
sounds look a cool feature. but it could be dangerous. - Lynne d Johnson
I turned it on, but only for new FF items. So, not too much spam will happen on my account. :-) - Robert Scoble
Wondering how that will look. - Christian Burns
It's a neat idea. As always Scoble is testing the waters and we're all better for it. - Will Higgins
cool so is this the first step of friendfeed becoming something like ping.fm or will they stop at Twitter? The cool thing now is that you can post both from twitter or friendfeed and your post will be (almost instantly) on both networks. - Davide D'Incau
wait a minute. If you enable this feature then it will disable importing your tweets from twitter to FF. I understand that is probably so to avoid loops, but that is not a good enough workaround for the problem for me. - Davide D'Incau
I turned off my Twitter feed to FF some time ago, to stop the dupes. Many people that WANT to see what I'm up to, follow me on Twitter anyway. I try to make a conscious effort to cut down the noise. - Ian May
Publishing to Twitter via FriendFeed means never having to leave FF! - Peter Simard
!!! like that: "the real time web - jfayel
!!! this feature surgedd to me only this week... put I would like it on "at request only" - jfayel
I use Twitter and FF for different (but sometimes overlapping) things. I'll post interesting links both here and twitter, but also ,when I'm out I use Twitter via SMS on my cellphone, and I can't do that with FF. - Ian May
