Kaplak.com is down, including the blog. This sucks. Apparently a change of some hardware caused the server to crash and the latest backup is 2 months old.
A lot can be reconstructed with Google's cache for lost articles and BackType for comments. I cross my fingers most posts are covered by the latest backup, so I need to reconstruct just a few posts. There's not been a lot of activity on the site for the past few months, luckily. Still need to salvage what can be salvaged from the wreckage, though.

Just for clarification : My slicehost "slice" server is up and running fine. The server that crashed was the original server hosting Kaplak.com at our old hosting partner. I'll have to reconsider what should happen with the Kaplak domain and site, but it remains pretty much undecided. And it's always when things are undecided that slipups happen and stuff begins to crash. Inevitably, old stuff which is not maintained, die and we lose a lot of data. It seems the database backup is okay, even though it's two months old, and then the data loss is not as serious as if it was completely lost. So we can reconstruct nearly everything with the root files/backup (which I have) and the database backup (which the hosting company has). But still it takes time and work and ultimately faces me with the choice about what to do with Kaplak and the company's sites in the future?

The Kaplak Blog is up again from the backup, but still has a few hiccups. Looks like I'll have to reconstruct 8 articles and 16 comments... I have all the articles and hopefully BackType will allow me to get all the comments.
