Congratulations, Tudor and Jeanette! You are both certainly invited to use my just-for-fun http://bebepool.com site if you were planning on having friends/family prognosticate about babby's arrival :) Cheers!

How soon until right-wing non-Obama fans try and make a heyday out of Obama staying on vacation in Hawaii, trying to turn it into a Bush/Katrina moment?
- Louis Gray
Louis: On one hand, we have a hurricane devastating a major American city. On the other hand, we have one nutjob trying to blow up an airplane and failing miserably -- no casualties, and the only person significantly injured is the perpetrator himself. Come on, even Limbaugh can't spin this.
- Tudor Bosman
Tudor, I would hope to agree, but nothing surprises me any more.

"Robert H. Lustig, MD, UCSF Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Endocrinology, explores the damage caused by sugary foods. He argues that fructose (too much) and fiber (not enough) appear to be cornerstones of the obesity epidemic through their effects on insulin."

That's been my experience. And sugar is highly addictive. Very difficult to get off of and stay off of. I went low-glycemic for 3 years then fell off the wagon. I've gone low-glycemic again intermittently ever since. I'm having a very hard time making it stick as a permanent lifestyle choice.
- Spidra Webster
I have been making an effort, lately, to eat healthily. I thought I ate healthily before, but I guess I didn't go far enough. I'm eating way more fiber and low glycemic index stuff, and... I feel great! It's really the feeling I'm surprised by, and it's fantastic.
- Danielle Fong
All I had to hear was that sugar causes your body to age faster due to the increase in insulin and that was me cutting down a whoooole lot of sugar in my diet... a couple extra pounds I can handle, but getting old - hell no! :))

I've been missing Dad a lot recently during the holidays. Decided I couldn't bear Christmas morning without his biscotti with my coffee, so made it for the first time. I was playing Christmas music while I was baking, and just as I finished "Ave Maria" came on--one of his favorites. He must be happy I've picked up his tradition.
What a nice tribute to him! How did the biscotti come out?
- Anne Bouey
It turned out great! His recipe is heavy on the anise, almonds, and cranberries. Nummm.
- Sheila Taylor
:) It sounds like they make a full meal!
- Anne Bouey
I want to try and make them. Somehow the second baking and cutting always seemed hard. I'll bet Sue was watching with Dad, she always got a tin for Xmas.
- amelia arapoff
Put me down as on the Avatar train. Saw it last night in Real3D and it was fantastic. There was even more depth to the metaphoric levels then there was to the screen. Seeing it in IMAX 3D over Christmas.
Seeing it in IMAX 3D tomorrow. I've read no full reviews and I'm going in with low expectations on all fronts except the technical one which is the ONLY reason why I'm going to begin with. Well, that, and the fact that friends of mine did all of the legwork getting tickets and whatnot.
- Akiva Moskovitz
if kevin is on the train all of a sudden ... I'm curious.
- karl dotter
Akiva, I think you'll like it for more than just the special effects. I liked the plot and acting as well.
- FF's Bubba of Arizona
It's partially on purpose. The lower my expectations, the more likely I am to be surprised and impressed by the film.
- Akiva Moskovitz
I saw IMAX 3d on friday and it was awesome. I'd love to see it again sometime soon but I'm not sure when we can sneak out.

can anyone convince me further?, this is what I've been told from the amazing nate beaty: "if you love mega-cgi, hamfisted, 3-Dee, thinly-veiled native american allegory, cardboard-character driven ecodrama and purple glitterskinned 12-foot amazon catwomen who connect their ponytails to fly giant poly-eyed fantasy birdbeasts, then fall in love with 'murican soldiers with "curiously active brains" in a $500m bluescreen hollywood earth++."

hey, I was just trying to help lower your expectations. the fx are fantastic but I'm spoiled by Pixar in expecting an amazing story to connect to also.

My baby sister just became a mommy for the third time at 1:26am PT. Logan Anthony weighed in at 7lbs. 10oz. -- a whopper compared to his older sibs, Izen and Maya Joi, who, at birth, each weighed 4lbs. 2oz. and 4lbs. 12oz. respectively.
This is another version of Walter Mischel's marshmallow experiment-- in the 1960s, a group of four-year olds were given a marshmallow and promised another, only if they could wait 20 minutes before eating the first one. The researchers then followed the progress of each child into adolescence and demonstrated that those with the ability to wait were better adjusted and more dependable (determined via surveys of their parents and teachers), and scored an average of 210 points higher on the Scholastic Aptitude Test.

This is clearly not my cat. If this was my cat he's have one arm shoved down into the printer trying to tear up all the internal whirling bits with his bare claws.

Petr, I have no idea what you mean, but thank you. :-)
- Kol Tregaskes
@Kol .. :] that, partially, might have been the purpose.... I don't know it exactly either. :] .. was I reflecting on a cat under the fax, and that it is hard to fax that way ... /?:] ... "underfaxing at its worst" ..
- Petr Buben
there ya have me ! :] .... see, to be honest with you, i saw this pic couple days ago, but i let it go, without posting it ..... what does that make me? :]
- Petr Buben
even a flat cat... faxes just can't handle the hair. You'd have to shave the cat first, else the hair will burn and stick to the drum... a mess! (I am extrapolating from transparencies, mind, i don't have access to a cat to test)
- Joelle Nebbe (iphigenie)
Hehe, Joelle. This is now tied for the 'likes' top stop. One more then, hehe. :-)

Super cool VW Bus making a comeback...
- Walt Ruppar
First of all, I'll cop to wanting one of these. That being said, Jason is right. This is for rich hippies (who probably aren't hippies at all). The VW microbus became the darling of the Flower Power crowd because it was cheap, easy to repair, and big. You could camp in it. Is there a car today that fits this bill?
- Chris Baskind
wow, you can buy an awful lot of pot with $129,000.
- Thomas Hawk
I don't know a self-respecting hippie that would prefer this over a really nice indoor greenhouse. ;-)
- Chris Baskind
@Chris, Most cars today aren't as simple, but with the wealth of knowledge online, it just takes more time. The minivan/SUV can become a camper van with a few mods. They'll never take the place of the VW, but they're an updated version of the 70s panelvan conversions (hopefully without shag carpeting & a disco-ball).
- Steven Cains
Nope: there will never be anything that simple again. That's not all bad: I can't imagine a 1960s VW Minibus would satisfy *any* federal safety standard these days. You're right. A used minivan might be the closest thing.
- Chris Baskind
Very Cool. You can't drive your house but, you can sleep in your Van !!!
- Eric Logan
Very intriguing. How much steel is in that thing? Chris, that would be my next question after fuel consumption: how safe is this thing? And I agree, when we can go back to making transportation that costs less than a small home, we may have achieved something amazing. ;)
- Melanie Reed
However, I have heard (and I'm not remembering where at the moment) that there has been a movement growing of people seeking alternative housing and substituting things like this as the new "mobile" home.

- Cee Bee
So after reading this article yesterday, I found myself this evening in front of a local place that specializes in reconditioning old VWs. It was closed, but there's an awesome red and white microbus out front with a For Sale sign on it. Ugly, underpowered -- and probably dangerous, by modern standards. Want. ;-)
- Chris Baskind
Cee, really? I find FF search is pretty good.

I love this Mobile...owned a few Vdubs, lived in a VW camper, but this is off the hook..I would become a true nomad with this...

I'd like to have something like this, something small. What do you really need? A bed, perhaps a TV and room for your computer. Then you can live anywhere you like, in theory.

Who is this Canadian designer Alexandre Verdier? Seems like he is on Facebook, Linked In but I can't seem to find anything else about him.

We had a wesvalia built Micro when I was a kid. I loved that thing. It was a little flimsily built; but boy it was perfect for my family of campers and road-tripping warriors. Too bad this one is so pricey
- Bill Rawlinson
I've made myself a handful of outfits, but what it comes down to is that I just have a list a mile long of things I want to do, and that doesn't leave much time for sewing my own cloths. Just like sizes and shapes that actually fit real women, I also want designers to think about the fact that women are endothermic in our torsos and our arms and legs get cold easy. This is just nature here!! *sighs* I know I'm expecting too much here.
- Rachel Lea Fox
I guess that's why armwarmers and legwarmers are back?
- Spidra Webster
Maybe women's designers live in warm climates.

Many live in NYC and Paris, both get cold, and while I don't tend to buy big designers cloths they influence what designers further down the food chain.

I know what you mean, Rachel, especially when trying to pick out something nice for a special occasion during the fall and winter seasons. Fall, especially around these parts, is perfect for ensembles requiring a couple of layers (i.e. slacks w/ button-up blouse and a long, light trench...
