This comment is a first step, I'd say... Integrating this with Disqus would be awesome.

The true integration is almost like the holy grail. Everyone has an API, but how much integration do they want to allow. Do they really want that much traffic outside of their core service? Does that damage the business model? Or does the increased traffic add to the service's devoted followers?
- Rob Diana
I think the other services would be wise to work with FriendFeed to integrate closer, there's enormous traffic potential.

FastCompany.com uses Drupal and I'm trying to get them to integrate stuff into FriendFeed. If you know of anyone working on such things, let me know.
- Robert Scoble
I'm currently working on Friendfeed integration in my spare time for Drupal 6. If there's a demand for it, I'll ramp up my work, and if anyone wants to work on a full-fledged package with me, I'm definitely interested.
- Mark Trapp
Does anyone have a preference on Drupal versions? I don't have a preference, and am willing to adapt to either.
- Mark Trapp
What kind of functionality are you looking for? The current Twitter module will publish posts to that service. You looking for sth like that?
- Sam Charrington
I can't speak for Robert, but if i had to guess, we Drupalers are looking for the same functionality that Wordpress bloggers already have: the ability to display all the Friendfeed comments and likes inline with the blog entry.
- Mark Trapp
I'm a frequenter of the Drupal site. Have not seen mentions of FriendFeed integration, but maybe you should suggest it on the forum.

It would be better to take FastCompany.com off Drupal, which sucks, than beg for FF integration.
- Francine Hardaway
Harsh Francine. I agree with the included comments functionality. Mark - contact me if you want any help with the project.

Chris, I'll let you know where I'm at tomorrow some time; way to tired to look at this any more. I have basic stream support in a block, and I'm debating on how to implement the comments trackback feature: haven't decided to simply hook into the node creation, or to provide the trackback as a CCK widget. Have you migrated to d6 yet? My code is primarily d6, but I have this sneaking suspicion fastcompany.tv is still on d5. That might be something to tackle.
- Mark Trapp
Either way, friendfeed's api is dead simple. Takes more time to set up a module than it does to link everything into the api.
- Mark Trapp
Mark, I am actually managing sites both in D5 and D6. A lot of the node / CCK stuff stayed pretty similar in the migration so porting it back to D5 shouldn't be too much of a hassle once we get to a final version.

Yes, Twitter was up for a bit, but I couldn't use it because it was too slow.
- Morton Fox
This is getting past ridiculous; we wouldn't have sat still for such an appalling record of availability by another service. So, Dave, how about that distributed Twitter architecture you proposed, was there any interest to help set it up?
- Asteris Masouras
Asteris -- yes there was interest, but generally the people with the products are scared of pissing Twitter off. This I don't understand -- I think the Twitter folk would welcome a bit of redundancy. Everything they've said publicly and done with the Twitter API indicates that they believe federation is in their future, but mostly the tech industry is scared. Where are the swashbucklers? Where's the adventure in venture capital? :-)
- Dave Winer
I'll believe that Twitter Inc. hearts federation when I see them take definite steps in that direction. If Microsoft & Yahoo are anything to go by, corps that live & die by the mass adoption of their services are anything but cool with federating & open standards. Only their users can keep them on the straight & narrow, or provide scaffolding for alternatives. As to your quasi-rhetorical questions about the guts of the industry, I wonder too :-)
