Hard times ahead for doctoral grads: http://www.nytimes.com/2009...
FTA: “It’s hard to tell young people that universities recognize that their idealism and energy — and lack of information — are an exploitable resource,” he wrote in a recent column. “If you cannot find a tenure-track position, your university will no longer court you; it will pretend you do not exist and will act as if your unemployability is entirely your fault.” - Katie Heikkinen

"If you'd like to see an investigation, let Obama know on the Citizen's Briefing Book! It looks like the most popular idea already submitted is called "Holding Bush/Cheney Responsible" and can be found here: http://citizensbriefingbook.change.gov/ideas... ... Vote it up!" - Katie Heikkinen

"FTA: “We allow people to make huge profits doing any number of things that will hurt the poor, but we want to crucify anyone who wants to make money helping them,” Mr. Pallotta says. “Want to make a million selling violent video games to kids? Go for it. Want to make a million helping cure kids of cancer? You’re labeled a parasite.”" - Katie Heikkinen

"I'm so inspired to realize that the kind of inter-religious dialogue that so many are now working hard to promote has deep roots in the history of both Christianity and Buddhism. This story gives me hope; humans weren't always intolerant and won't always be." - Katie Heikkinen

"This kind of harassment happens all the time. My friend was traveling from SWEDEN of all benign places and was stopped by "Homeland Security" in Denver for several hours. Why? He was bringing some clothes I had left there back for me, so the guard opened with "So, you like to wear women's clothing?" Apparently that is cause for detention in the good old USA!" - Katie Heikkinen

Palin Didn't Know Africa Is A Continent, Says Fox News - http://digg.com/2008_us...
"What I can't believe is how none of this came out BEFORE the election. This kind of information is totally essential. Perhaps some people wouldn't care, but I hold out hope that even fewer would have voted for McCain/Palin if they knew this." - Katie Heikkinen

"A thoughtful analysis of Obama's attempts to bridge the red/blue schism in America, which is only holding us back from our own greatness. FTA: Obama: “If voters are similarly polarized and if they’re seeing two different realities, a Sean Hannity reality and a Keith Olbermann reality, then we’re not going to be able to get done the work we need to get done.” .... “I guess the point I’m making is that there is an entire industry now, an entire apparatus, designed to perpetuate this cultural schism, and it’s powerful. People want to know that you’re fighting for them, that you get them. And I actually think I do." I think so, too. OBAMA 08!" - Katie Heikkinen

"FTA: Two years ago, a list of the nation’s brainiest cities was put together from Census Bureau reports — that is, cities with the highest percentage of college graduates. These brainy cities have low divorce rates, low crime, high job creation, ethnic diversity and creative capitalism. This year, all 10 are likely to go Democratic. What’s more, with Colorado, New Hampshire and Virginia now trending blue, Republicans stand to lose the nation’s 10 best-educated states as well." - Katie Heikkinen
