"In these past Olympics, Lithuania came in fourth. Just behind Argentina, Spain and the United States. That's no surprise. The Lithuanian team is always in the hunt. It's worth noting the sizes of these nations, however. The population of Lithuania is about the same as Oregon." - Adam Kazwell via Bookmarklet
"In fact, six U.S. cities have been found guilty of shortening the yellow light cycles below what is allowed by law on intersections equipped with cameras meant to catch red-light runners. Those local governments have completely ignored the safety benefit of increasing the yellow light time and decided to install red-light cameras, shorten the yellow light duration, and collect the profits instead." - Adam Kazwell
That seems so weird why they would ever do that. But to know a little trick/hack against these lights. If you roll through them at around 5mph, you will not get flashed with these cameras... I believe you have to be going at least 10 - 15... so keep that in mind on those dead nights at 3am when nobody else is around. - Dustin
liked this quote....""We didn't expect anything like what you have witnessed to occur," said WTF secretary general Yang Jin-suk. "I am at a loss for words." .... I mean, could there be a better use for a WTF secretary general :) - Adam Kazwell via Bookmarklet
This is really cool... One thing though, the reason I gravitate towards coffee shops that have latte art is that there is a high correlation between latte-art and good coffee... Now with these machines, it might no longer be the case :( - Bindu Reddy
you know who has good latte art? cafe del dogge in palo alto. very creative stuff - Charles Hudson
@Jim Not as good as my Guinness shamrocks on St. Patrick's Day! - Anne Bouey
I love that one of their demo images is the Utah teapot. - seth

lots of thoughts went through my head reading this article - beyond is it fake or real - the fact that I'm even asking the question says a lot about the (current/permanent?) state of the valley. - Adam Kazwell via Bookmarklet

"Have you noticed that every Olympic swim event is also a record smasher? It seems like every swimmer (and not just Phelps) is seconds ahead of the daunting green world record line, smashing it to smithereens. So how is all this record breaking possible?" - Adam Kazwell
I noticed there was an ungodly amount of record smashing... nice to get some insights. I just thought swimmers kept getting better and better and better. - Corinna Psomadakis
"Paintbrush is a Cocoa-based paint program for Mac OS X, similar to Microsoft Paint and the now-defunct MacPaint. The project's ultimate goal is to recreate the basic functionality of Microsoft Paint, which has been noticeably absent from Mac OS X for years. Paintbrush can open and save to most major image formats, including BMP, PNG, JPEG, and GIF." - Paul Buchheit via Bookmarklet
really missing the eyedropper tool....would much rather have that vs. the boom functionality - Adam Kazwell
A question that has been bugging me for years: why doesn't Mac OS X ship with a set of games other than Chess? I think the lack of FreeCell would actually be a deal breaker for my mom were I ever to try to convince her to use a Mac. - Bret Taylor
Bret, up until at least a year ago, new Macs came with Nanosaur (and later, Nanosaur 2) and/or Marble Gold Deluxe. I haven't bought a Mac in a while, so I can't say for sure anymore, but new Macs at least came with games. Like iLife, they're one of those things that are value adds for buying new rather than upgrading old. - Mark Trapp
"Is Y Combinator helping their competitors by making the legal process easier? Absolutely. And Graham doesn’t seem to mind.".....I love the gap between the startup way of thinking and the Techcrunch way of thinking. By making it easier for all startups to focus on what they're best at YC stands to increase its odds of getting higher quality startups overall. - Adam Kazwell
"Do you have any idea how little talent it takes to envision perfect solutions? Any concept as the number of dreamers running about these streets with perfect inventions cluttering their heads, no clue as to the impossibility of their production?....Not to let engineers off the hook. Guilty as charged, the lot of them. Oh yes, that problem is very hard to code. I’m so sorry you can’t Google a solution for it. Forced to come up with your own solution to the problem. Well, that must just suck. Actual creative thinking. Whiteboards and late nights. God forbid you create something new, do something worth doing." - Adam Kazwell
The lazy web - what Yahoo! should have become the master of.....read this quote and replace Lazy Web with Yahoo and sure enough they have a strategy to compete with Google: "But there's one other really important thing about the "lazy web". It's smarter. My friend Vanessa looked at the first response to my question on yoga in Curitiba and saw it was a google result. She said to me "I can do that and have done it. It's not a good yoga studio. I want a good one."
An hour or so later, I got a name of a person in Brazil who would know the answer. And that's the direct hit we wanted. Google can't do that. People can. And do. And do so publicly. And when I get value from lazy web queries, you can bet I'll reciprocate when I am on the receiving end of them." - Adam Kazwell
"After Georgia broke away from Russia, South Ossetia and another province tried to break away from Georgia, succeeding autonomy-wise but failing map-wise. As Georgia cozied up to the United States, Russia cozied up to South Ossetia, deploying “peace-keepers” and distributing Russian passports like candy. After Georgia decided to crush South Ossetia and its rebels into submission, Russia decided to “defend the peace” … by crushing Georgia—or at least its military—into submission." - Adam Kazwell via Bookmarklet
No that I like the conflict itself but I find the whole issue to be fascinating... Georgia is a tiny, poor country. I'm not sure how they saw this ending but Russia seems like a pretty big dog to take on. - Corinna Psomadakis
