I was just going to ask what people's experiences were with them. Can't judge a breed by this one particular dog. Do they do well in apartments? - Derrick

Thanks, Rochelle...I'll bookmark it for later. - Derrick
Nice, lovely doggies, but soooo smelly. - Chuck LeDuc Díaz
yappy too. they're a nice breed but strong and a bit of runners. lots of energy, but sweet. - Patricia
Cute breed. Easy to train and small enough for an apartment. - Chris W

they're hounds. hounds are generally smart busybodies with some energy...though not jack russell style energy. we had a stray beagle become the neighborhood dog back in the day. she would come visit us at the bus stop, and she would say hi to my mom... but then somebody took her :-(. she was sooooo sweet and good with us kids. - tiffany

Netflix finally brings 'Watch Instantly' to Macs via Silverlight - Engadget
October 27 at 9:18 am - via Bookmarklet - Link
In a move that seemed like it would never, ever, ever happen, Netflix has finally managed to bring its streaming video technology (and decent library) to Macs everywhere, thanks to Microsoft's Flash-esque also-ran, Silverlight. - Thomas Hawk via Bookmarklet
Hot Donkey, watch now finally on the Mac! - Thomas Hawk
Except when you go to Netflix and select to "play" something, you'll still get "Our apologies — instant watching is currently not supported for Macintosh." It would have been nice to announce it when it's actually available. - ·[▪_▪]·
hmmm... at least it's coming. Does anyone know when we can actually get it? - Thomas Hawk
"The deployment, which will initially touch a small percentage of new Netflix subscribers, is the first step in an anticipated roll-out of the new platform to all Netflix subscribers by the end of the year." - Thomas Hawk
Thanks for posting that Thomas. I was too lazy to read beyond the "not supported" :D - ·[▪_▪]·
FYI doesn't work on my Mac yet. http://images.scripting.com/ar... - Dave Winer
its about time! - Kipp Bodnar
Its ironic that this is all thanks to microsoft. - Roberto Bonini
I got all excited until I found out it isn't available for all users yet. - Nick Humphries
Mac users... look no further than Apple for why Netflix can't send movies to you. Look at Dave Winer's link and read the NEXT line which clearly says that Apple does not license their DRM technology to third-parties. WTF is that? So, essentially Apple is saying that they want it all. I wonder if Microsoft can somehow get some kind of DRM code working on OS/X. Time will tell... - Jim McCusker
How does Apple's closed DRM preclude a third-party from implementing their own DRM? - Kevin Fox
It appears that Silverlight's built-in DRM on the Mac has not been approved by the studios yet. I'm not quite sure why Netflix is tying OS/X's DRM to the issue, but perhaps that's because studio's have approved OS/X's DRM. It's still strange why Apple doesn't license 3rd parties to use their DRM solution. - Jim McCusker

good points but to friendfeed focused, the concept of newsfeed could be applied in so many ways. - Kipp Bodnar
There is one thing that I don't quite agree with: the way FF (but I'd say that it is actually the digg-way) is ordering news is not actually "most important first", but rather "most important for this community first" which sometimes is just synonymous with "the buzziest first". - Alex Popescu

I use three Linksys wrt54gl routers with tomato firmware and WDS to provide complete wireless coverage in my home. Works just dandy. (WDS is described here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/W...) - Jasmin Patry
After having nothing but problems with Linksys gear, I now use Dlink exclusively. This is my wireless router and it just works. - Alex Scoble CISSP
I just ordered one, to arrive tomorrow. - Dave Winer
I have a D-Link DGL-4300. The wireless part works fine and I like some of the features (port access control for one), but the UI blows and it's buggy with certain things. - Logical Extremes
What's so bad about the UI? - Dave Winer
I've been tempted to switch to an Airport Extreme or a custom-firmware device. I'd presumably gain reliability, but lose features I use. Not a good choice to have to make. - Logical Extremes
The UI on the DIR-625 is good...much better than what you get with a comparible Linksys. - Alex Scoble CISSP
I returned the DIR-625 in favor of the DGL-4500. It's expensive, but very stable and fast. My time is worth more than the $100 premium for something that works reliably. - Darius Dunlap
4300 UI needs lots of clicks to access commonly used functions (some of which wouldn't be so common if not for the bugs). I regularly have to reset port access control, or reboot router. - Logical Extremes

I strongly disagree with this "analysis". Why not poll Web browsing penetration in 1997 and say it has peaked? Silliness. - Louis Gray
I've not read the actual report (and I'd laugh and cry if I did, I'm sure), but I'm still completely unclear if Forrester's referring to RSS specifically or content syndication in general...? - abacab
How about Atom adoption? :-) Or is RSS / Atom are synonymous in the Forrester report. - Atul Arora
if RSS were one click it would change everything. I believe that. RSS should be as simple as following on a social net - ⓃⓄⒶⒽ ⒹⒶⓋⒾⒹ ⓈⒾⓂⓄⓃ
Part of the problem is surely the name. RSS. It doesn't even stand for anything - or at least, there's not widespread agreement on what it means. There's also the terminology associated with it, such as "subscribe", which to many implies payment. - David Young
Wish RSS would go to be main stream like Email,it is such a great technology that change everything after the invent of PC,cellphone and the Internet. - Steve
Is this the same Forrester that said the Internet was a fad back in 1996? :) - ScottBourne
So far in my early adopting history, every new technology that I've embraced with force and used enthusiastically for more than a year has gone mainstream in a really big way. I use feeds and feed readers much more than email, email readers and standard Web browsing these days. I am predicting more than 90% penetration of RSS/Atom technologies (or their future iterations) among regular Internet users over the next few years. The practical and immediate benefits for anyone who needs to follow and manage news are enormous. The masses will catch on. - Sean McBride
@Scott Maybe it was Forrester who bought Macbooks before last week's announcement. ;-) - Steve Rubel
I have trouble believing that. Why would they check RSS adoption. Many of the people who get feeds through RSS applications may not even be aware that there is RSS involved. - Dorai
I agree with Louis, think Forrester is way off here - Kipp Bodnar
the crap that's being published about web tools is amazing! - Joe Buhler
I've abandoned traditional RSS all together. If I really *must* subscribe to some sort of RSS content and the author isn't on FriendFeed, I'll just create an imaginary friend and mix it in. FF trumps any RSS reader I've ever tried. - Thomas Hawk
Thomas Hawk - again, allow me to dissent. :) I find Google Reader to be far more efficient for tracking and managing news than Friendfeed. In fact, I follow many Friendfeed feeds through Google reader. FF is superior for conversational interactions on news items, of course. Main reasons for my opinion: list view, mark all as read, mark as read while scrolling by. - Sean McBride
I prefer NewsNetWire for all my RSS needs, as it syncs across my multple computers and my iPod touch, and for most feeds, I'm not interested in the chatter that comes with FF. - Bob M. Montgomery via twhirl
I was a longtime FeedDemon user until I started using Google Reader. I like being able to mark my favorite posts and sharing them with my friends. The commenting is useful too. Accessing it online anywhere and being able to interact with it on FF is unmatched by any other feed reader. RSS clients will be gone in the future. Everything is going into the browser. - Rolf Schewe
I think RSS will find further adoption but it's going to be a slow hard climb and then a marked and substantial acceleration once it tips. I'm a fairly Internet savvy guy and it took *me* a while to fully grok RSS and what it could do for me. Google Reader was my way in and now I'm hooked. It needs to be marketed better and subscriptions need to be 'late majority' proof. - AJ Kohn
The problem with Friendfeed as a news reader: Why should I have to scroll through the comments on items I have no interest in reading? Why should I have to see those items and comments again and again and again when looking for new items? Forget about "Hide": that's too much work and effort. - Sean McBride
I trust my own judgment about sources and topics more than any commenters or comments on Friendfeed. Signal to noise on GR for me blows away FF. Most of the best minds in the world are still not FF users. - Sean McBride
forrester .. that says it all - Gregory Lent
social network feeds, widgets/gadgets/apps, igoogle/my yahoo, ipods, appletv/tivo, etc...they all use rss...it's just plumbing...jeez :) - don loeb
Don - RSS is also a radical paradigm shift at the user interface level in information consumption on the Internet: bring the most relevant information to the user automatically rather than the user manually foraging for the best information website by website. The efficiencies gained are enormous. Ordinary people (as opposed to zealous early adopters) will eventually figure this out. - Sean McBride
@Sean: Agreed. Once people understand it's like getting your magazines and newspapers delivered to your door instantaneously they'll start to get it. - AJ Kohn
RSS may just be solving a problem that most people don't have. If you don't check out more than a few websites daily, there is no point to subscribing to feeds. - Jason Kaneshiro
good point - truefreemind
@Jason: Good point. Many still use the Internet for a limited set of purposes. Email, Search. If you're not looking for content, then RSS doesn't easily solve your problem. - AJ Kohn
The RSS model has the potential to manage efficiently and optimize all your daily news and information inputs -- not just new data on websites. Think of it potentially as the ultimate personal assistant. - Sean McBride
I agree with Forrester, that 11% say they use RSS - while another equal amount might use it but aren't sure. FF'ers are early adopters, so we're part of that. - Mike Reynolds
idk facebooks kinds growing on me sine I tied it into twitter, ff, plus it's got cute pix of my wife. I can barely keep up a scobles shared reader rss much less my own 440 feeds - mal
metafilter, reddit, digg, all once did this for me, not for a long time though - Gregory Lent
sean, i agree with you. what i meant was that the benefits of rss are what users need to know about, not the technology. and, the reach of rss is way beyond the "traditional" rss reader model and extends to many different forms of distributed content consumption... - don loeb
RSS is used all over even if users don't realize it. - Jake (aka Jawee)
don loeb - well said. - Sean McBride
