OpenMoko To Release Linux-Based Smartphone -- Linux Smartphone -- InformationWeek
7 hours ago - via Bookmarklet - Link
"The touchscreen smartphone will be available to U.S. consumers July 4, and it will be fully modifiable down to its core features. The FreeRunner is based on a GNU/Linux, and it will initially ship with basic software to make calls, send and receive SMS, and manage contacts. But the company is encouraging users to write and install their own applications. Software updates will add features to the phone over time, and the company said an August update will enable location-based services." - Kevin Cearns via Bookmarklet

"Ubuntu Netbook Remix is a slick new user interface for Ubuntu on sub-notebooks like the Asus eeePC and the OLPC XO. Installing Netbook Remix on the XO is not for the faint of heart, but if you're looking to get some extra geek points then strap in: it's going to be a long ride." - Kevin Cearns via Bookmarklet

Is Email In Danger? - ReadWriteWeb
Wednesday at 4:46 am - via Bookmarklet - Link
"Human history is one of progressive improvement in communication. From the 20th century mail was a fundamental form of communication. The invention of electronic mail (email) changed two things. It became cheap to send short mail, and delivery was instant. Email became favored for both corporate and personal communication. But email faces increasing competition. Chat, text messages, Twitter, social networks and even lifestreaming tools are chipping away at email usage. In this post we take a look at what's happening and assess if email is in danger." - Kevin Cearns via Bookmarklet

then again, FF seems to deliver everything you'd want from a service like Tumblr - has FF made Tumblr like services irrelevant? My own personal blog could easily be replaced by FF. - Kevin Cearns
photos to Flickr, videos to YouTube, longish blog entries to my blog, sites i find interesting to del.icio.us, RSS reads I like shared on Google Reader, status updates to twitter, location to BrightKite - all captured and centralized on FF - essentially, my personal Tumblr. - Kevin Cearns
I like using Tumblr to share videos found elsewhere using the bookmarklet. Sometimes I don't want to send people to the video page either due to NSFW ads, or nasty conversations. It works out well. - cmiper
