"Coming Soon: Free Video Conferencing From Google. This was the headline of a recent ZDNet story by Garrett Rogers. Garett based his prediction on an interview with Rishi Chandra, a Google Apps product manager, on SFGate. There, Mr. Chandra said that “launching a voice or video chat session should flow seamlessly within Gmail and mesh organically with the other Apps” and “should be embedded in the core experience across the application set”."

I love the fact that some serious and skilled company is doing that. So far, I've just seen attempts from just-telecom mindset companies, which just kills the goodies we need to have.

For "that" I mean: PBX like facilities, integration with other DIDs the user might have (his phone numbers) and basically e-mail.

I was preparing myself to mentally blast your post because of the presuppositions contained in your title but was ultimately foiled due to the accuracy you delivered in the post itself.

Ignore my last comment. Great post, Jason. Well said and accurate.

When you record your message, it is quickly transmitted to Nuance servers where a speech recognition algorithm is run against your data. The resulting text is returned to your iPhone very quickly; my informal benchmarks showed that it took about a second for text to be processed on a Wi-Fi network, and less than 5 seconds over 3G. You'll need a data connection for the app to work, but having this speech-to-text capability is going to be very important to a lot of people, who will find all sorts of uses for it.
I actually think that is pretty cool. Looks like I've finally found a good replacement for my MBP which runs Windows :)

This isn't wireless power. The wireless dock has to be plugged in. So. Wires. And it's a $200 extra. Not quite the revolution is it. I don't think Apple or anyone else has anything to worry about at the moment.
- Gilbert Harding
So you have a dock with a wire going to the power outlet, what's the difference? This is the same as saying that any device that can receive a charge trough a dock has wireless power. My old handheld vacuum cleaner has a charging dock. My guess is that charging docks actually is an older way of charging then through a wire. Look, now your device don’t have to be stuck at one location while it is charging. To me this Dell dock is a step backwards.
- Asgeir
Not quite the same as your old handheld vacuum. This is an inductive system. However there are still wires from the dock to the wall outlet so no real difference between that and having the laptop plugged into the same outlet. And what if you don't pony up the additional $200? Do you get a conventional charger as well?
- Gilbert Harding
Nice but not as nice a the real wireless stuff from MIT shown at TED.

"Reed Resources shares surged 84 per cent after its August 12 announcement of an option agreement to buy the high-grade Mt Marion lithium project near Kalgoorlie. The former Western Mining Corp ground boasts a head ground of 2 per cent (that is, good) and an undemanding strip ratio of 1.3 to one. "

A last looks a tough race to nominate a special but BREADWINNER looks a very strong chance in a race he has been waiting for. His form in better races than this is too strong to think he can't win and...Read more: http://www.simonhicks.com/kranji2...

I see Punters Pal and Larry agree on Breadwinner - is that good or bad?

I'm liking what I see so far. It feels very personalized and I like the home page with the tweet word bubble above your picture. Good work! The blood, sweat and beers paid off! :)

grays are very new york. color bars at top are very Californian, very simple and modern aesthetic. tag bar is great - "an amazing Sarah Lane creation." "new site, new rules" should be "new site rules" because it does. great work. Squarespace + Final Cut Pro = great new site.
- echostreamer
I like the simplicity of the look. It might be good to make the navigation usability match that simplicity a little more. For example, navigation is in two places on home and the top bar on sub pages. That's 3 locations for a new user to remember. This can cause premature exits from your site. I'd make the top nav work on all pages, and maybe merge the two navs on home page into one...

Any page that starts off with a big picture of you is simply beautiful. So you can imagine my surprise when I clicked your Facebook link and saw my own ugly mug. Your link just takes me to my own home page. Other wise a very nice page :)
- Eric Carter
And the links on your other pages, (about, projects, and what not) are taking me nowhere. Not sure if that's my me though. I've been having "issues" lately
- Eric Carter
i'm getting sarah's facebook page and the projects links work for me as well
- Chris Heath
but i do kind of agree w/ dave about the nav bar - should always be at the top on all the pages
- Chris Heath
Hmm, Now I am getting your FB page. I think the internets just doesn't like me anymore...
- Eric Carter
Looks great, nice and simple although the nav menu doesn't stand out enough for me. Actually took me a couple of seconds to find it =P. Once found, works fine though!
- Travis Koger
Very nice, but the carpet is sticky. Oh, must be the blood and beer :-)
- Slappy Line
Looks good....it screams "Sarah Lane", so I think you nailed it on the design. :)
- Chris Luckhardt
looks really cool. love the twitter, flickr, facebook, delicious, etc. little widget.
- Thomas Hawk
LIke others have said I wish that the nav was in place on all pages. the index page without the nav at the top almost feels like its just a page to advertise where to find you on other social networks, which is fine, but i'm not totally sure there is more to this site in that context. Also in the blog and other pages the blocher ads are rather distracting and detract from the rest of the site. Just my 2 cents though.
- Rachel Lea Fox
Thx for all the feedback, guys and gals! I tend to agree that the nav should be consistent. I'll try to figure out how that can work into v2. And I'm going to rotate the main landing page pic every so often.. so if you don't like this one, no biggie, it'll change eventually. :)

"NISSAN has revealed details of the new 24 kilowatt-hour battery to be installed in its Leaf electric car." "Hold your hats. Each battery will contain 4kg of lithium, according to New York-based scientific consultants Gerson Lehrman Group. The planned production numbers of the Leaf means that just under 10 per cent of the world’s production of lithium will be snapped up by Nissan. "
