Bad news from the tax assessor: our home value has dropped $350,000. Good news: we'll save $5,000 on taxes. So in 70 years we'll break even.
Well, at least you get to save some money Leo - Roberto Villegas
Just don't go and sell that house now! - Denis Dervisevic
Holy crap, what was it worth before? - Daniel Drysdale
"dropped 350,000" or "dropped to 350,000"? - Robert
I'm in California. You can't get a one-bedroom condo for $350,000. - Leo Laporte
I would guess that it lost $350,000 in value - rob friedman
Are we "stimulated" yet? - Mattb4rd
LOL! If your value dropped $350,000 you'll excuse me for not losing too much sleep over your hardship. - Fat Geek
That reminds me. How do we get this tax assessor out to our house? - Robert Scoble
The TWiT cottage? Nooo! The bubble is officially popped. - Bob Evans
$350,000!!!!!! My God What is is actually worth???? - Anthony Everitt
Does that mean something in the Bay Area is actually affordable now? - Ken
I cant believe that they are lowering your value, California is turning away money? - Christian Burns
Guys, get over the amount! - James Nobes
LOL I wouldn't mind too much loosing $350,000 at least then I would have had it to loose :) - TheBigBentley
Keith, California should stop spending money they don't have - that will turn it around - Jero
Good as long as you weren't planning on moving or forced to move. - Phillip Stewart
As long as you're not planning on moving out, I don't see why this would be bad news? - Tom Ribbens
Now thats what I would call a Market Correction. Things are only worth what you can sell them for. - Christian Burns
I'm getting in to real estate. Going to invest 10k in an area that is not yet developed, wait 50 years and I'll be selling condos for 100 times that. - Myles Cloutier
Wow... I prefere indianapolis! hahaha Houses there are almost free. - Alberto Lung
If my house dropped 350k, it would be worth -150k! - Ed Naggiar from iPhone
same here Ed, you know us regular guys that bought houses we can afford, we're not the problem. - Charlieray
Wow...different tax guidelines where I'm from in Illinois. My value went down by 35% and my taxes actually went up 15%. - Steve Council
I live in TN. My house is worth $103,000 and it's four bedroom with a little land. lol $350,000 will get you a mansion with 30 acres here - cbmeeks
Guys, $350k is nothing in CA. Leo's house is probably worth over a mil easy. I knew my TWiT donations made a difference. lol - cbmeeks
I'd love to even own a house at half that value... - dann
Cbmeeks, in West Tennessee, half of that will get you a mansion!! - Benjamin Deming
That's really good news unless you planning to sell soon. I'll buy it. how much do you want for it? - James Glenn
Good thing I'm a renter. I could have lost $350,000! ;) - Sarah Lane
While it hurts, I consider it a value correction. http://tinyurl.com/luym3x - David Eckard
I received one of those assesments too--Ouch - Rob Michael (Atmos Trio) from iPhone
Take your accountant and property advisor off your christmas card list - Matt Jarvis
Maybe things work differently there, but here tax assessed value is always lower than actual appraised value, by as much as 20%. Here's hoping it's the same for you. - FFing Enigma
We took it on the chin for over $200K too. - Rob Michael (Atmos Trio)
$100k+ here. :( - iTad
Bummer if the previous value of the house was $350k - Jason Tokarz
We have a "don't laugh, it's paid for" house - didn't skyrocket, didn't drop. I'd never sell, though, so it's irrelevant - heretic_twit
It's the house value that went down...not the home value. The value of the housing market isn't of much consequence until you trade down or sell up entirely. The assessors value will go up again soon enough. In the mean time enjoy the extra cash. It's still the same home with the same family in it. - Chris Nixon
My house increased in price by 350million, don't know what all the fuss is about. - Mark
If my house dropped $350K it would be worth Negative $200K - m9m, Crone of FriendFeed
Your primary residence isn't an investment. Without it, you'd be paying rent. Now, you're paying rent (in the form of a mortgage) at a higher rate but you wind up with some of that "rent" stored up at the end. - Trent Hamm
Don't complain ... in 3 years it will increase by $1,000,000 and they will access taxes at ful value instead of 25% - Stephan Romeo
Join the club bro. We are in the same spot. Not $350k thank god. - Nathan Gibbs
well if just dropped to $350K.Reality is in the coming years it will drop further. This is unfortunate, but we are in the beginning of the restructuring of the U.S. and European economies.Be prepared to see housing values to go down further as we go through this shift - Baba
be a good liberal and send them the $5000 anyway... think of all the people on welfare that depend on you Leo.... dont disappoint them... - John Hillestad
That's only relevant if you bought it at a price between the higher appraisal amount and the currently lowered value or (big OR) if you refinanced or took out a second mortgage and the total mortgaged value is at anything above the currently lower value. But if you bought the home at a price lower than the new value and haven't refinanced then you're fine, you never really had the value... more... - Lon Cohen
We're not upside down yet, but nearly all our equity is gone. This isn't a mansion, or even a McMansion folks. Just a modest 3BR, 2 1/2 Bath, 2000 sq foot home in California. It's the "Northern California" part that makes it so expensive. - Leo Laporte
If it's anything like here in FL they are taking into account the foreclosures in your area when assessing your property values. It stinks! - Dayngr
Time to buy if you're in the market for getting out of renting and into mortgaging. - Emmanuel Losier
That assumes your home will NEVER go back up in value which is not the case. Statistically you should be back up in 5 - 7 years. By the time your mortgage is paid off you should be up quite a bit. The fact is that if you need a place to live it doesn't really matter what it is currently worth. One of the reasons the country is in the shape it is in is because people treated their homes... more... - Chris Johnston
Another reason the country is in the shape it's in is because mortgage companies and banks were too greedy and leveraged their money 60-70 times over while forcing people into mortgages they couldn't afford. When I was buying my house in California there were a table full of people (realtors, brokers, etc) trying to get me to buy a house that was 3x what I was comfortable buying. I had... more... - Robert Lindsley from iPhone
Hey, Leo, I thought you wanted to pay MORE in taxes for socialist agenda items since your friend achieved the White House, - Mike

Sounds interesting! - Dean
I like the idea, but not the name. Seems kind of bias right off the bat. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the innovation that Google brings to the table, but to name the freakin' show after Google?? Can you tell that I am a big fan of Dvorak :) - rodney.franklin
i look forward to listening to it! - Aaron
Great! Was waiting for it since the pre-announcement in TWIT. - Alexey Klyukin
Interested and looking forward to it! May have to listen to podcast though. Will be out on a boat this afternoon. - Suzi Kilgo from iPhone

Looking forward to a new show, - rudedog
Can't wait to listen! - Tom Webster
Think it was a big mistake to put the name "google" in the title, but will probably be a great show anyways. - Steven Legault
this is great, so much to talk about, and so much to learn. I think most people have no idea the range of services that are emerging from both Google and Amazon related to cloud services that will be invaluable for the small or start-up business as well as consumers.... - Howie Schechtman
Can't wait! A new and exciting podcast for a new and exciting era of computing! - Josh Rosen

I'm really interested to see how this show goes. This is a big topic heading into our future. - Mike Nayyar
when will it be on itunes? i wonder - Aaron
Where can I subscribe for iTunes? - Ben
I'm not fond of the "Google" in the name either, it's like calling a car show "This Week in Gerneral Motors". But I'll try to listen in to the taping anyways, should be funny & knowledgable with the three of you. - Martin
is that pacific time? look forward to it! - Susan Ettenheim
And that album art need work, IMO. The "computing in the" is hardly legible. - Martin
I actually didn't like the artwork so I tried a different one myself. Here it is; http://img149.imageshack.us/img149... - Can Sağlam
This sounds like a good show, and nice graphics! But how do you have time leo?! Sometimes during somewhat slow news weeks there is some overlap in news like macbreak and twit which can sometimes be annoying but still great shows as I'm sure this one will be as well. WIll jeff and gina always be there or more of a twit interchangeable style? - Denis Dervisevic
Looking forward to it, I love your other shows and Gina Trapani is great. - Brandon Eaker
All things Google. Not all things Twitter? LOL Should be interesting. I was listening when you spoke of this show as a, maybe. I'll be there. - D Lets
Ready to listen to the big three Windows Weekly, MacBreak Weekly and This Week in Google...TWiT is in a class by itself. - Christopher Knopick
Windows Weekly is the best because Paul does something 90% of the TWiT network hosts don't do: RESEARCH! - Mark
Should call it "this week in the clouds"  - Stan from iPhone
Looking forward to it Leo! - Cody Clark
gonna check this one out - (jeff)isageek
TWiG is better than TWiC (This Week in [the] Cloud) for those saying he shouldn't have put Google in the name. - Marcus Boyce
Alright. Very cool - Dylan Richardson
Looking forward to it. - archaictree
Jeff is a great choice for this. WWGD - Rob Truman from fftogo
What's in a name? ;-) I look forward to this new addition to the TWiT network! - Joe Gilbert
Great.. looking forward to it... - Shoukat Dharani
this is hilarious with hindsight http://www.appleinsider.com/article... - Mark
Gina is great, as is Jeff. I really look forward to seeing how this show develops. - Lori Todd
Google is taking over the world. Chrome OS = Android 2.0 for large laptop screens, Google Voice on Android and White Spaces will kill the $1 Trillion Telecom and ISP industry, you should talk about those ARM processor based netbooks that are coming out with Chrome browser in the next few months, they will take over the whole laptop market and start costing $150 with no contracts. - Charbax
Great show Leo. Great way to kick off Sunday morning. will try with hangover next week - guydownunder from iPhone
TWiG was great! It really makes me want to dive into the cloud. :) - Curt Tweedle
Loved the show! - Krista House
Great show! I will be a regular weekly viewer & I want to be a part of the Wave you set up. - Don Struble
There is one This Week in Google podcast in iTunes, but it's not this one ;) - Reijo
Someone else already took the name? Naughty Leo for not checking lol - Mark from iPhone
Mark, they did one episode and it was 2 years ago. I don't think they'll have any issues with the president of the internet using the same title... - MλTT
It would be ironic if it was the twitvid folks who made the podcast hehe. Leos show was much better anyways - Mark from iPhone
I have been looking forward to this show since you first announced it. Thanks! - Bruce Vittetoe
Gina T. mentioned y'day it wasn't up on iTunes yet, but they were working on it. Sounds like another TWiT winner! - Rob Greco from email
Great what a good idea since Google seems to run the show/ - Rob Cairns
Is TWig on iTunes yet? - Devon Govett
Looking for it on iTunes here too, nothing yet. - Andrew Leahey
Take a while to appear on iTunes. Meanwhile you can add it manually to iTunes with the following URL: http://leo.am/podcasts/twig Thanks for listening! - Leo Laporte
Can't wait to subscribe! - Jonathan Hardesty
What was that thing that Jeff Jarvis brought up at about 46:00 and it sounded like; Prezee or Prez-e? I have looked on Google and I found nothing. - AquaGeneral
I think it was Prezi, http://prezi.com/ - Brandon Eaker
i thinks is very important the post - amadeu.karen
Fantastic show... great topic. I found it on iTunes. - Denise Deverelle Crown

Mona Nomura
All men should come pre-trained. Especially if they're over 30. Period.
Depends on the upbringing and sibliings etc. Oh, and btw, you don't seem to want we pre-trained ones to begin with, only when the obviously not trained go all screwy. Just sayin. - Michael W. May from twhirl
No way. All men should be pre-trained to be sensitive, understand hormones, thoughtful, romantic, help around the house, and be aware. Also, they men should be required to read "Twilight" - Edward is all of that and then some -- girls love him because of his qualities, not looks! - Mona Nomura from IM
Women should come pre-trained as well. :P - Amani
Mona, In theory, yes. But in actual application, never going to happen. - Michelle M
No way. (most) Females treat their men like kings, if we get treated like queens. Michelle - I know. See the dilemma? I think I'm gonna turn lesbian. @Jason - awwwwwwwwwwwww! That's how it SHOULD be. But the bigger question is: do you do things w/out being told? - Mona Nomura from IM
Hot. - Michael W. May from twhirl
What?! Edward is NOT violent, controlling, or co-dependent. He is protective and always thinking of the others' best interest. He exhausted all his options. It's BELLA that is co-dependent and cut off all her friends! - Mona Nomura from IM
I have learned that I *must* accept quirks, whatever they may be. No one, man or woman, will be perfect. Sounds cliche, but love overcomes the little things. - Michelle M
A woman marries a man expecting he will change, but he doesn't. A man marries a woman expecting that she won't change, but she does. :P - Bwana ☠
Bwana, So true! Describes so many marriages I know. - Michelle M
Michelle - I lived with an ex for a while and it was TERRIBLE. He didn't notice ANYTHING and I felt like I was *that* girl always nagging, so I would do stuff myself which lead to frustrations, a lot of them. Where do we draw the line? :( @Lindsey - you don't agree? Edward is -sigh- my dream man! - Mona Nomura from IM
Bwana, is that Oscar Wilde? Or Twain? That sort of wisdom is historical. - Michael W. May
I reckon most guys are barely potty-trained, and not even that when really wasted. You got no hope :) - Patrick Jordan
The responses I'm getting on Twitter are funny. "@KevinAshby I hardly ever pee in the den anymore, so I'm mostly housebroken" Housebroken and trained are two VERY different things!! LOL - Mona Nomura from IM
Mona, I am with Jason on this; trained, but willing to rebel when need be. Oh, and I do the dishes after dinner without prompting. - JA Castillo
Do guys like being told what to do? Or would you rather have the female FUME and try to figure it out yourselves? - Mona Nomura from IM
Some guys like to be told what to do. Usually there's leather involved. - Tinfoil 2.0
I like this inbetween concept refered to by scientists as "communication" and "talking" - Michael W. May
Mona, Most females are set up with this ideal of a prince charming. We think relationships should be totally perfect, but that is not reality. Joel is my perfect mate, but, I know we both do things that annoy one another. No relationship will be 100% perfect. You have to weigh the good and the bad. - Michelle M
Edward. Sigh. - Erin @queenofspain
Wouldn't pre-training take away half the fun of building the relationship? - Kevin C. Tofel
Logical LOL MWM and Michelle - agreed. But MAN inefficiency and repeating myself EXTREMELY challenges my patience. It's come to a point where I refuse to utilize my creativity to 'communicate'. Most of my EXs call me "cold". I prefer "rational" And yes, Erin. Edward -sigh- @Kevin - I am not looking to change a man... :( - Mona Nomura from IM
Mona said "I am not looking to change a man..." I say: good because your chance of success is between slim and none. The key is finding someone who cares enough about you to respect your needs enough that they're willing to work at meeting them. Even exceeding them from time to time. ;) - Kevin C. Tofel
Mona, I repeat myself all day. I *hate* nagging, but I do it. My mom and I had a discussion about this last night. Men listen differently. Not saying it is okay, but I have found that this is the way it is. And even as the uber feminist I am, I have learned to accept it. - Michelle M
But see, guys are like that in the beginning, Kevin. Then toss in 'reality' and all that goes out the window. I know it's a two way street (I'm more irritable, etc) but still. How many times do I have to repeat myself! >:( @MM - I'm told I'm like a 'dude' ie: I don't over analyze, take things as it is, and mean what I say - no hidden meaning. What happens with me, is the guy ends up all emotional (angry, upset, etc) and I stay rational. Hence, 'cold' - Mona Nomura
It is a 2-way street... in a successful relationship. Sorry to continue the metaphor, but a One-Way Street relationship is a Dead End. The respect levels have to balance and that balance needs maintenance over the long term. Maybe I'm just an irrational optimist? :) - Kevin C. Tofel
I agree, depending on what kind of training you're talking about. - Vicarbott
Nick - My Edward references are not serious. Otherwise, I would be delusional. There is no man like him that exists. And Stephenie Meyer is no Shakespeare but they're easy to read. And that is what makes them so addictive. - Mona Nomura
The most difficult thing with men (or in a relationship) is finding a balance. Where do you draw the line to determine how much to give and receive? Maybe it's an issue with me. I tend to choose the selfish ones. Ugh. - Mona Nomura from IM
RE: balance. Since nobody's perfect, here's the equation I keep in mind: the success and length of a relationship is directly proportional to the amount of tolerance you have for the other party. It's easy to like the "good" attributes of someone. It takes effort to tolerate the "less desirable" aspects. My $0.02. ;) - Kevin C. Tofel
And with that, I have to drop. Everyone here is sleeping and I'm trying to collect everything from my brain and put it all into Things for Mac. It's a GTD weekend, don't ya know! :) - Kevin C. Tofel
Mona, I'm going to set you straight on all this as soon as I'm done emptying the dishwasher (unprompted). - Bruce Lewis
Kevin - Maybe it's a personal issue. I am definitely not saying my sh*t doesn't stink but I am reasonable and agreeable. It's just at times I am too accommodating, which commonly results to it being detrimental (to me) -sigh- Boys suck. LOL Bruce! - Mona Nomura from IM
LOL Bruce. - Vicarbott
Kevin has a great point. You just have to take the good with the bad. - Michelle M
Exactly why men should come pre-trained - they need to read our minds, damnit!! ;) - Mona Nomura
Bruce, But are loading the dishwasher correctly? - Michelle M
Michelle! LOL!!!!!!!! - Mona Nomura
Funny, isn't it, how the qualities that are found attractive at first are my biggest faults. :) - Mona Nomura
That's called marriage, Mona ;-) - Ken Stewart | ChangeForge
Mona, You don't have to compromise who you are, I never have. You may have to give a little in other realms, but don't change who you are. And I agree with Nick, it is their loss. - Michelle M
All women should come pre-trained. Especially if they're over 30. Period. - Akiva
OK Mona, let's start with finding a less selfish guy. You need to be in a position to observe his behavior. What does he *like* to do, what does he *like* to talk about. How much pleasure does he get out of making other people happy. The black box that takes situations as inputs and outputs emotion is called the "heart" and that's what you have to look at. - Bruce Lewis
Suppose the input is a situation that makes someone else the center of attention. If the output is sour, that's not a heart you want to be close with. If the output is positive, you've learned something good about that heart. - Bruce Lewis
Wall-E? Are you Wall-E, Bruce?? - Mona Nomura
I'm a 40-year-old married guy with three daughters. Makes me instinctively protective of young women, so I'm trying to help you out. And, sorry to say, you're geeky so I'm using a metaphor that helps my geek side understand this stuff. - Bruce Lewis
trained for? I'm a little scared. - Brian Roy
The most important thing in assessing someone you're interested in is noticing the way they act toward other people. He may be interested in you and putting on an act, but nobody keeps that act going indefinitely. - Bruce Lewis
Damn, Bruce. You were INDEED speaking in terms I definitely understood. Got my hopes up a little haha. My ideal man is Wall-E + Edward. And both are fictional characters, one an animation even. Can we say DELUSIONAL? haha! And definitely agreed about the way they act towards others - especially servers and such at restaurants. ;) - Mona Nomura
Are you writing this down? Moving on to talking about your needs with a guy you're involved with. Really practice saying things of the form "When you do X then I feel Y". Avoid "You need to do X" and "You should know to do X without me asking". True? Probably. Helpful? No. - Bruce Lewis
And here's the sad reality: Guys enter a relationship seeking comfort and safety, so we want women to use a gentle, kind tone of voice with us even though we don't always use such a tone ourselves. And yet you can't say, "Hey, you don't like it when I talk to *you* that way. What makes you think you can talk to me that way?" You have to say, "When you use that tone with me I feel threatened." - Bruce Lewis
Backing up temporarily to how they treat others - yes, servers at restaurants can be an indication. But the best data you can get is how they treat their roommates. - Bruce Lewis
People like your spontaneity and expressiveness, but when you're feeling mad because he doesn't know what you like you pretty much have to quash that feeling, smile, and say, "You know what would really make me happy?" And after saying it you can repeat that same question, with the answer being "If next time you remember what I like" keeping the smile on the whole time. - Bruce Lewis
Does this stuff sound palatable, or is too far removed from what you want to do? - Bruce Lewis
Bruce LOL! You're like my own personal relationship therapist -- even if I am not in a relationship haha! And I will definitely keep this advice with me if and when I get into my next one. ;) Thanks for all the advice but the real question is: do you follow your own? :P - Mona Nomura from IM
I don't always follow my own advice, but I married someone who tells me straight out when I'm messing up, and that helps. The training is ongoing. :-) - Bruce Lewis
LOL That's communication, Bruce! :) - Mona Nomura from IM
Yeah, what you communicate and how you communicate it is the whole ball game. "When" matters too. Sometimes I'm not ready to hear something, same with her. Timing is key. - Bruce Lewis
Like all proud animals training just breaks our spirit. - Tony C (Unrated)
Pre-trained in what, though? I need to know the training regimen for my two sons. - Martha
potty trained? I'm still working on it. - Mattb4rd
It will never be enough...just when you think you have the formula, women will find a flaw! To be human is to to be in-imperfect! - Ferwin from Nambu
I agree, but...where do we train? - Jordi Soler
boys are stupid. throw rocks. - MLx
"pre-trained"...huh? what? - .LAG liked that
Potty trained? Definitely. Trained by other women on how to deal with me? Probably not gonna help. - Nakachi
I've been wishing for decades that more women would train their sons properly. Every now and then, I'll run into a guy who says his mother trained him right. I think most parents take the "boys will be boys" approach. Of course, my thinking may be biased by what I observed around me. - MiniMage, enterRUPPted
yes, but the only way to train them is with the help of a woman ;-) - Duncan Riley
Guys think to the point, Women think around the point. For example the classic "Are you okay?" and the women says yes with certain tone. We hear yes so we think 1) You want us to leave you alone or 2) You are okay. Which usually is not the case. When people talk about relationships I go back to that question. I personally suck at it cause I'm like a dense wall with women sadly. - ЯIИGҜIИG
The problem isn't that we don't come pre-trained, its that every woman has a different set of rules. >:P - Ⓒⓗⓡⓘⓢ Ⓟⓘⓡⓘⓛⓛⓞ

A happy surprise: NBC is giving a 10 P.M. slot to Leno
Now I can stay up to watch him - offline. - Steve Rubel from Bookmarklet
Now if CBS will just move Letterman - Dave Hodson
Personally, I think Leno never was that great of a host. Connan, and Letterman still have him beat in terms of the best monologue. We'll see what happens though. - Steven (optionshiftk)
Blah. He's so boring. Conan is 10x better. - Louis Gray
Louis++ - The Fat Oracle
I'm sure this will appeal to his older - much older - demo. - Leo Laporte
if i got nbc this would give me the chance to try him out... - Samuel Lewis from twhirl
Connan and Letterman are both much better! yeah - Susan Beebe
I wonder if this makes him their next-generation Tom Snyder. - David Wilson
Very interesting. Now even fewer prime time slots to fill. - Shemp DeYoung
None of these guys compare to Jack Paar, Steve Allen or Johnny Carson, who, were much edgier and took more risks. The newer generation are mainly corporate shills. - Rod Bauer from twhirl
At this point, NBC should give him the slot opposite the news on other networks and give up NBC News altogether. Besides, as Leo mentions, his following usually falls asleep midway through Wheel of Fortune. - Louis Gray
@Rod: Conan is a corporate shill? Dave is a corporate shill? Surely you jest. - Louis Gray
@Louis Conan is timid. He sticks a toe in any controversy and he apologizes. Letterman has a well defined garden where he takes chances but doesn't venture outside of it. - Rod Bauer from twhirl
Jack Paar walked off his own show, challenging NBC over censorship. - Rod Bauer from twhirl
I can't stand Conan and Leno has lost his touch. Ferguson, on the other hand... Awesome. (Yes, different network, but we brought up Letterman) - Zach Flauaus
Corporate shill, pushing boundaries...you guys take your comedians er..seriously don't you? :). Good for you. Love Conan though...they guy's fantastic. - The Fat Oracle
Conan is not funny! - The Real sofarsoShawn
First of all Conan is funny or at least funnier than Leno (the monologue doesn't count, i'm talking about actual character here). But more importantly i think this signals how BAD NBC is really losing in the ratings. They are giving up the 10-11 timeslot. They are throwing in the towel. - David Bisset (sn)
Yawn. Oh wait, 10:00pm, I take that back. - Mike Reynolds

Due to the misspelling, one can only presume that this is an excellent representation of the average McCain supporter. - JCunwired
Really, Awesome convention poster! - Kishor
Chris++ - Rah-PM 2012
If you criticise him for his spelling mistake, the terrorists win! So keep quiet you unpatriotic people! LOL!! :-) - Mark O'Neill
Is this what you do all day Mr. Laporte? Surf the Internet looking for ways to look down on your fellow Americans because their political views differ from yours? It's a shame TechTV/G4 fired you. You might just have the right level of maturity to host Hurl. Nah, maybe you're not that mature... - Laura Smith from twhirl
I enjoy listening and watching Leo, Dvorack, etc. when it comes to technology discussions. The more I see the higher echelon of FF and Twitter talk about politics, the more I wish there was a filter I could apply. I mean, this was just a funny picture that gives Obama supporters another means to look down on people who do not support Obama, but I've seen Dvorack's outrageous blog post about Palin's children, and I've read Scoble's mistatements regarding Huckabee's speech at the convention. - ComicList
Web 2.0 spell checkr - k. chan from twhirl
Perhaps if one admires mavericks, one spells words whatever way one wants. - Jim Swi....
The democrats' signs were much slicker. With every speaker at the DNC they passed out new ones -- there were hillary ones, biden ones, michelle etc. all beautifully printed on nice sanded sticks. Not a hand painted sign in the crowd, all the perfectly the same, and no chance for a misspelling. Good stagecraft. The hand painted signs make me cringe from a design/spell check pov, but they are authentic. - Oldengrey (Jay)
What is this? The Republican Friendfeeders coming in to comment swiftboat style? Lighten up for Christ's sake! Obviously you've yet to discover what a sense of humour is. Let me know when you find one and I'll teach you how to install it. - Mark O'Neill
Geez, Mark, maybe you could lighten up a little. The Republicans were commenting on the headline, which was perhaps uncharitable and directed at them. I think Leo is great, and I think Dvorak has no problem taking care of himself. They are completely entitled to their opinions outside the world of tech. That's why I subscribe to them. We live in a great country, don't we? - Oldengrey (Jay)
Misspelling and bad grammar goes across the board, even at MoveOn (http://skitch.com/chilima...). I've been known to make a mistake once in a while my self. I know, shocking. Maybe that will be the next big tech idea. Electronic campaign posters with built in spell checker. - ChiliMac
I read a medical report once that read "cervical dysphasia" - it was supposed to indicate "cervical dysplasia" epic phail typo. No, it was not my cervix. :) - Mattb4rd
Matt: Some new kind of ventriloquism or lack thereof? - Oldengrey (Jay)
If I'm ever around one that talks, I will run. - Mattb4rd
Mark, from Wikipedia: "Swiftboating is American political jargon that is used as a strong pejorative description of some kind of attack that the speaker considers unfair or untrue—for example, an ad hominem attack or a smear campaign. Most accurately, it refers to the repudiation of a politician's personal history by people who were present as that history was made." Does the speaker (Leo) consider my comment to be untrue? - ComicList

AT&T just agreed to reduce our bill for satellite calls to @rozsavage by 80% - saving TWiT about $8000. Thank you SO much, Chris!
They were gonna charge ten grand for sat phone calls!!! Ridiculous - Grant
+1 to AT&T - Joe Perrin
I've actually found AT&T to be pretty good about customer service. I'm just one though. - Tal Atlas
Now if they'd do something about their data plan pricing..... - Steve Gillette from twhirl
This might be the first time I've ever had anything good to say about AT&T. Nice job. - Aaron Krug
Don't talk about data pricing until you start paying a dollar a Gig in NZ and lets not talk Iphone pricing either - Nick Brennan
A welcome contribution I see. Great work with Roz. Good on AT&T. - Vince Green
Thank you AT&T - Andrew Fielding from twhirl
I was using a business calling card to call Roz's Iridium satellite phone. I had no idea it would cost $13.80 per minute until I got the first bill. Of course by then I had racked up over $10,000 in calls. It costs Roz only $1/minute to call me from the sat phone, so that's how we're doing it now. I should have, of course, checked the tariff. I even remember reading some time ago that calling card calls are the most expensive out there. Fortunately, AT&T knocked it down to the lowest rate available. - Leo Laporte
wonder if iridium phones are used by anyone except "extreme" sports people who climb everest or row across the ocean? - Wilma Stoneflint
shocked to hear AT&T actually do good... they never part with $$$ ...interesting. Very happy for you Leo, cuz that was one nasty phone bill!! Did you drop out of your chair when you read it?! - Susan Beebe
Happy for you Leo. The first time I have heard something positive about AT&T. I experience with AT&T was very different though. - Vic Podcaster

I got the white 16g too. Love it. Saw Wall-E again today and the white 3G reminds me of Eve's smooth white awesomeness. - Steve Isaacs
Given the Leo Effect (TM) does this mean that the 2.0 IPhone is now obsolete? Can we expect 3.0 next week now? - John Lutz from fftogo

I confess I've mostly moved over to FriendFeed. http://friendfeed.com/leolapo... - it's busier but lends itself better to conversation.
I pulled the trigger. Sorry Twitter. - Leo Laporte
I've added friendfeed to my social web, but I'm not giving up on Twitter yet. Thank goodness for Flock and ping.fm - Steve Burton
looking forward to your conversations over here Leo. - Thomas Hawk
I like the idea of friendfeed - but the simplicity of twitter is its appeal. I wonder where Pownce and Jaiku will sit in this msg evolution - dann weatherhead
I have a feeling that this time things gonna better than the Jaiku move. - Du Senyao Peter
i havent been able to make the move - are there twitteriffic-like apps for FF as well? that would help my jump... - Andy Beach
I think twitter's UI is better and I wish there was something like twitterrific out there - maxim shevertalov from twhirl
This is funny, I just signed up for a twitter account. With what appears to be a mass exodus from twitter to other services, is there any point in me building up a network over there? - Eddy Cole
I want to make FF part of my routine, but it's just so damn cluttered -- plus I don't see any mobile integration yet. It's almost there, but it just needs a little more work to really take the Twitter throne - Noah Mittman
I remain a bit grumpyabout FF; I cannot shake the feeling that I am only here because Twitter failed me so many times. Anyway, here I am! - sage brennan from twhirl
Andy, try twhirl - Graham Garland
The busy UI and lack of users put me off. Perhaps if it didn't try and link in with Twitter it would be easier to follow? - Oli from the-iBlog from fftogo
I have left twitter also, but now use Plurk. With the newly added search, I can find conversations about just about any topic. - Jon
I am really liking FF for conversations. I like Twitter for status/presence updates. Isn't that what is was designed for? Want to know where I am, and what I am having for lunch? Check Twitter. Want to know what I am interested in and reading? Check Friendfeed. - Sean Brady
Glad to see you over here in FF Leo!! welcome! BTW twitter pulled their own trigger - no guilt with that....just remorse - Susan Beebe
If Twitter had a closed beta to better manage scaleability, but at a const of having a large user base, would it be as big as it is? - maxim shevertalov from twhirl
Is that it Leo you are off Twitter ? , ok kids grab the life jackets - NA76
Leo, what is your preferred way of FriendFeeding? Post once via Twitter and resume the conversation via FF or some other way? - Alexander Kucera
Leo, you are so fickle! I think you have TADD...Technology Attention Deficit Disorder. :) - BISQ
Yeah, it's almost like Jaiku! - Randal Schwartz
Welcome to the darkside - Dave Peck
I'm trying that move too. A lot of info to sort so far - Michael Leis from twhirl
Leo, I violently agree. I think reliability is the killer asset. - shelisrael1
I've done the same. Twitter is dead to me. LOL :P - Grant Gochnauer
I just created a FF account too. It's a shame. I love Twitter. - Matthew Vaughan
I don't get the big Hoopla. FriendFeed is a Commenting System and a Medium to get Content on. Twitter is a Messaging system. Sure you can (pressed enter here accidentally) 'switch over', but really, Twitter could be thought to be something completely different than friendfeed - Tyler (Chacha) from twhirl
I'd like to see more of my twitter friends using a "lifestream" commenting system like FF, or see Twitter turn reliable and then add a better threading system for replies.. but until someone gets their act together I am happy using something that has the capability to do very similar things. So I'm happy to be caught up in the current migration toward a meme that works. Update: and one that is editable;-) - Curtis "Billy" Cross from twhirl
Eddy Cole, the services are completely different. Try them both out. Many people, myself included, use both services. For some reason people want to make this a contest between Twitter and FF. - Mike Doeff
@Mike thats what I've been trying to say, Twitter is a messaging service, FF is a Aggregator/Commentor. Very, Very Different - Tyler (Chacha) from twhirl
thanks Graham - I had no idea twhirl support FF as well! - Andy Beach
@Mike, thanks. I'll give both a shot and see what happens. - Eddy Cole
Chacha, totally agree. Baffles me why people continue to compare apples to oranges on this. This blog post is worth reading... http://www.winextra.com/2008... - Mike Doeff
I am in the conversion process. And actually what it seems is that you don't have to abandon twitter, FF will just post for you - Edward
I found myself doing this a couple weeks ago. Every time I wanted to go to twitter it was down, so I just started using ping.fm to post, and following all my feeds of FF. I agree with the ease of conversation on FF. - Melissa Goetsch
FF definitely has some nice advantages over Twitter (or probably more over Jaiku for that matter) which people with tons of scattered content can benefit from. On the other hand there are still tons of features I'd love to see added here (esp. on an API level). In the meantime, FF just has to hit the web-mainstream ;-) - Horst Gutmann
I would like FF a lot more if it pulled in my friends from other services. As of right now, all it really seems to do is aggregate my lifestream. I'm too lazy to manually add each rss feed to FF, and there's no way my friends are going to sign up for FF, after it was a giant PITA to get them to sign up for twitter. - Austin Brown
Is there an iPhone client for FriendFeed? I do alot of messaging on the go. - Robert Hafer from twhirl
you have inspired me to check out FF too .. so far - I likey! Thanks Leo! - Jenz
Robert: fftogo.com - Andy Lewandowski from twhirl
I give up on Twitter.. - jmagella from twhirl
http://FFtogo.com was created by Benjamin Golub - a fellow FriendFeed user, who also created http://RSSmeme.com - Susan Beebe
"but lends itself better to conversation.” could you quantify with your own experience as to what it means "Bettter conversation" ? We first had blogs /RSS , twitter , wownce which all seems to raise the bar on the converational index.. but what do you mean "better to conversation" wrt to FF ? - Peter Dawson
On Leo! One! Chaud devant! --french people will understand ;-) - directeur from NoiseRiver
@Austin That is what imaginary friends option in FF is for. You can add most of the services. There are several guides, linked to in this very thread and others available by googling that give you the info you need to set it up so they can have the freedom of using twitter, etc... and let you have the option of moving.. It doesn't have to be a competition between FF and Twitter. But if... more... - Curtis "Billy" Cross from twhirl
Yep just found someone I follow on FF, don't on Twitter, and I thought, what's the point of following them on Tw? 8-\ - Brian Carter
btw Leo, you gotta read this too -- http://friendfeed.com/e... - Peter Dawson
@Brian Carter was that person me ;) ? I think this weekend showed how friend feed can fill the void of being connected and following the thoughts of those who we have grown to trust online. Since then, I have noticed that the traffic on twitter (at least for me) has gone down significantly by the people I was following and didn't really know in person or know well. My inner circle are still using twitter and the mobile factor is still huge. The real question is can I still be active on FF while at work. - Andrea Baker
Reasons desktop app for friendfeed is not as usable as webpage: 1. usually quicker to navigate high volume on web page. 2. desktop app will surely be chasing new functionality (i.e. retwitter comment feature on FF web but not in twhirl). - Boris Gordon from twhirl
Thank you, Andy - Robert Hafer
hey Leo, you should try Friendfeed in Twhirl, just click on the Twhirl logo and add Friendfeed as a new account, already 5% of all the comments there - Loic Le Meur
try identi.ca - Tyler Gillies
I just wish FF had a way to dynamically collapse conversations for clear view of post titles. And then selectively expand the comments to see that conversation. It would be like a dynamic feed reader. - Ernie Oporto
