- Robert Scoble
Milad says: "Tehran is a very good place. Scoble's wife can translate these for him."
- Robert Scoble
Milad says that if your wife is translating these please post that Persopolis' soccer team is better than Esteghlal (two rival soccer teams in Iran). My comment: sure! My wife says that she would be a fan of Persopolis if she were a soccer fan.
- Robert Scoble
My wife added a political comment: "they don't allow women into soccer games in Iran" which is why she never got into the Iranian teams. She says she does watch soccer, though.
- Robert Scoble
Scobez - if you like some public companies as much as it seems, why DON'T you own stock in them?
- iTad
Brian, won't work ,GoogTranslate doesn't support Persian yet.
- Duncan Riley
Tad: I'm not allowed to have investments in the companies we cover. That's a rule among old-school journalists and Fast Company magazine has those rules. Not that it'd matter anyway. I don't have much money and if I did I'd invest in mutual funds, not individual companies.

Thanks Robert. And that's a pretty interesting conversation there. Interesting to hear how they think they are perceived.

I'd love to see FriendFeed incorporate the tech used here: http://meglobe.com/ That would be game changing for sure. Translating comments "on the fly" to the appropriate language for the user - killer.

The World is Flat !! What we are seeing is a leveling of this world on twitter and FF. IF only we could have a mousover that auto translates non -English comments into English !! This would bridge a cross cultural communication gap and transform the way we keep chatting !! :)-

@Vince DeGeorge- Wouldn't be it better to have a default language for your profile here in FF? Once FF know the numbers, then translation is a step closer to reality.

Look at the two faces of retail side by side and you see what Apple has done in a few short years to overturn retail expectations. This SF Apple store has more people in it than a huge Best Buy store I just visited. Apple has a far smaller set of choices but feels far more welcoming and warm.
- Robert Scoble
from email
"Welcoming and warm," eh? Here in Rochester, the Apple store always seems to be 10 degrees warmer than the rest of the mall. I've broken sweats.
- Ryan Sholin
I posted a similar image in the weekend from the Sydney store. I noticed they were nearly all just using the display computers to surf, an Apple Store Internet cafe.
- jjprojects
The only type of retail that may survive....targetted retail.
- Joel McLaughlin
They also have a gravity attraction machine at the back of each store. I'm sure they are there because I can feel them as soon as I get out of the car.
- David Bennett
Confirms the "retail as showroom" paradigm, and Apple brand is recognized as cutting edge... they're going home to purchase the goods...
- Pat Kitano
Best Buy's display computers and gadgets are incredibly locked down, pretty much unusable, and most never an have Internet connection anyway. I hardly ever feel welcome inside Best Buy.
- Eric Dunlap
Apple Store isn't chock-full of low grade crap you don't want / need and 1 billion of the same device with slight variations, i.e. flat panel TVs. Apple only sells a handful of products, keeps a minimal amount of product on the floor and the staff is quasi-intelligent. Basically, the exact opposite of Best Buy.
- Bryan Bartow
I have been here a few minutes and see two Macbook sales being written up. Yes, most people just are hanging out but it sure is a better vibe than at Best Buy.
- Robert Scoble
The Apple Store is almost a boutique for gadgets. mmmm that's another business idea!!!
- Mel Buckpitt
I was at the NYC cube store short after it opened on a Sat. evening and it looked like a club. Buzzing with people! It was fun.
- Valeria Maltoni
jjprojects brings up a good point, but I think people are there for more reasons than that. I've been to a good number of Apple Stores around the US and they are always full of people with only a small number of them on a machine surfing the 'net.
- Bryan Bartow
Chris: I disagree. On Saturday I bought a $1300 computer and was in and out of the store in less than 10 minutes. Maryam was timing it. Here? Took me even less time to get what I needed. Just grab a color shirt and say "ring me up." oh, and stores that have cash registers are lame. Why? Ever stand in line at a Best Buy? I have. It sucks.
- Robert Scoble
Not saying that having people hang out just surfing is a bad strategy to sell stuff, it probably works quite well :)
- jjprojects
I love the Apple Store, even if half the time it's just a way to check my email. But the last three Apple products I've purchased have been done online after checking them out in the store - it's still annoying to have to wait in line and deal with all the retail stuff in an environment that seems so clean of corporate gunk.
- Erin
For me Best Buy, et al just fill the need for instant gratification, otherwise I just get it online. But the Apple store is an experience. Plus, their service and support is just so amazing. When I have to return something to one of the other stores I dread it because I am treated like an unwanted interruption. I actually look forward to visiting the Apple store for service & support because they make me feel like they are glad I am their customer.
- Marshall Huwe
"Congratulations on your purchase!" *cheers from nearby reps* Got both from purchasing my iPhone and MacBook on separate occasions. Didn't really get the same when I bought my PC from Best Buy. It wasn't a bad experience, but there's something extra at the Apple Store. While having any Apple reps able to ring you up is awesome, sometimes when it's particularly busy, it's just as frustrating hovering around one of them with other people wanting to buy stuff too.
- Arlan K.
@Chris White I love the notion of having my receipt emailed. Different strokes for different folks, I guess =)
- Bryan Bartow
Can we fit a Fry's reference into this thread somewhere? I mean, the consumer experience absolutely sucks, but if the price is right...
- Ryan Sholin
Chris: the Sunnyvale Frys has 80 checkout counters. John Fry gave me a tour when all 80 were in use and they had their first million-dollar day. It's a thing to behold. I should go back there and see how many are in use now. I bet it's closer to three to five.
- Robert Scoble
The checkout experience at Fry's in Austin is even worse than the extremely painful BestBuy experience. Great place to find stuff cheap. That's about the only positive thing I can say about Fry's.
- Bryan Bartow
I blogged about this exact topic back in Dec (http://shannonclark.wordpress.com/2008...) - substitute "Best Buy" for "dollar store" in my post. The key point is that the Apple store - unlike most low end retail has real curration & service w/inventory mostly in back. The Apple store model is more akin to high end boutiques (small, carefully selected inventory + one-on-one service)
- Shannon Clark
Best Buy doesn't give you free wifi, Apple does.
- Thomas Hawk
Last time I went to the apple store it was to buy a hands free. They didn't have the color I wanted (which mattered as it was a gift). I asked them to call another apple store that was in range. After a couple of minutes they came and told me "yes, the other store has them, however we also called the best buy that is much nearer to here, and they have plenty in stock too at the same price". Saved me hours.
- Robin Barooah
I gave up my birthday last year. I no longer have one. True, I do have an arbitary string of numbers that I use to identify myself in various places, but that's nothing to do with birthdays. I'll be giving up Xmas when my kids are a bit older - they were pissed enough with me for giving up my birthday.
- Ivan Pope

It's an excuse to indulge in cake and alcohol!
- Mona Nomura
Well, Loic, the first year where you don't have a birthday might see others gathering to celebrate you in a different way, for one last time. Celebrating a birthday means you made it to the next one!
- Louis Gray
Me? I celebrate being alive. Any day will do but I might as well use the one I started on.
- Soulhuntre
from twhirl
I like the hobbit birthday celebration: give everyone else gifts and throw a big party on your own birthday. 1) you only have to remember one date; 2) it's kind of like saying "Thank you for not killing me this year. See how good a friend I am?"
- Kevin L
hey, if it's an excuse indulge, people will follow. admittedly it seems to hold less meaning once you get past the milestones - I only celebrated my last birthday because it means I can finally vote!
- Erin
I'm with you, klecu! I always throw my own birthday party. Even if it's just for me. One of my favorite years was taking myself to Napa/Sonoma for wine, spa day, shopping, stay at a nice hotel, etc. Then I got back to SF and was supposed to work. Instead my bosses kidnapped me and took me to a nail salon they had rented where all my friends were waiting to surprise me. I wept. Openly. :-) After that was dinner at my fave restaurant: Bistro Yoffi. SO GREAT!
- Lisa | #TeamMonique
It's fun when you are young, and then starts to suck more and more ;-)
- Dean Terry
I disagree, Dean. I think it's strictly a popularity contest when you're young and it's fun when you're older. This year I turn 38 and I'm planning to have my birthday party at the Half Moon Bay airport where their cafe serves THE BEST orange waffles. Biplane rides for everyone!!! :-) A couple of years ago all my grown up friends and their kids went bowling. Pizza for the kids; beer for the grown ups. It was AWESOME!
- Lisa | #TeamMonique
it's a social convention, and because of that it has different meanings for anyone. For me it's just a way to show the time that passed.
- Mário Pires
In addition to what Soulhuntre and Michael have said, birthday's are unique to individuals; they're not hallmark holidays and/or shared with tons of others. I think it's nice to celebrate the individual.
- Joanmarie
I'm in a holding pattern at 39. Personally I don't like to mark another year gone. Getting older, it seems that celebrating a birthday is a reminder of what little time we have. Birthdays get placed in the same realm as Christmas - I celebrate those for my kids and live vicariously through them (meaning I pretend to be a kid again).
- Renee Hendricks
I liked it when I was 14. Now that I'm 17, I don't like the feeling of getting older...
- Yuvi
Surviving another year perhaps? Once upon a time that would have been a great achievement. Nowadays we perhaps take it for granted.

I gave up "birthdays" when I was 21, figuring that was a nice age to stop. I do have an Annual Give Gifts to Cyndy Day, though, to celebrate another year of not dying. I'm perky like that. ;)

Birthday = Celebrating other people getting older ;-)
- Benedikt Koehler
Actually, my wife sometimes have to remind me when my birthday is coming. But I love this particular day, as my own birthday party is in fact my children's party ;-)
- Thierry R. Andriamirado
Birthday's are a celebration of life! Remember, there was a time when surviving another year was a big deal. We just take it for granted now. Keep on celebrating your birthday, in big or small ways. Celebrate being alive. Unless you don't like your life...
- Rick Weiss
I stopped celebrating my birthday many years ago. Most assume it's because of age but that's not it. It's because I don't like the sense of obligation that it puts on my friends. Also, I'm not comfortable being the center of attention. Well, I am but not that kind of attention.
- Akiva
the just do it for the cakes and presents.
- Martin Añazco
Birthdays are an excuse for a celebration and life needs it's celebrations!
- RAPatton
"to be or not to be and to remember the time to be " that is the question !!! It is in human nature to count everything I think it is reassuring for peoples . We celebrate to be still alive , we should do this every day, minute seconds but it's more easy to count year because of the seasons I think (spring, summer, automn...) . I've read that being old is considered a good thing in some societies. Maybe in those societies life doesn't get more painful the longer it goes on; I dunno. At any rate, I do not want to acknowledge any more of my birthdays. My motorcycle purchase is probably the equivalent of some grey-haired dude's jazzy, flashy sports car acquisition.
- MiniMage
Brian, thanks. we had a great time. Nice and relaxing.
- Robert Scoble
Good point. That's driving good-quality participation instead of spamming attitudes. That could really improve the conversations.
- delbo
Robert, I agree with this, but regarding your comment on Allen's thread, the fact of the matter is that there are still 9 default people that get recommended when someone signs up. It's true, there is a "participation premium", and for good reason, but the big names still get rewarded simply because they're big names. I just wish I could see active FF users get highlighted now and then....
- Raoul Pop
It's not a conversation if there's no participation. Good points, Robert.
- Jack&Cleo
Raoul: active FriendFeed members get featured all the time. You should learn how "Friend of a Friend" works. Anytime I like or comment on someone all 15,000 followers of me get to see that person's post and they can easily subscribe to them by hovering. The recommended list is totally useless for me, by the way. So I do wish they'd make it a lot better.
- Robert Scoble
Well, there probably has to be a combination of both - you can participate all you like, but if you don't do it in a meaningful and public way, it won't really matter. Still, a heartening thought that participation can be more important than name recognition alone. Gives some power to us little people (popularity wise, anyway).
- Erin
FF offers a remarkable way to participate. In fact, it's downright unique. Which is probably why FF will be HUGE. It has a pliancy of participation that's just unmatched, and it keeps getting better. Encouraging post.
- phil baumann
Yep. But, isn't "Participation" your full time job description? If it isn't, what is?
- Yuvi
Nice post. You're spot on with the analysis. The two of you use FF differently. Both of you are highly valuable to me as information sources, but in very different ways. Mike is a conversation starter. You carry and share conversations and link people that wouldn't otherwise connect. FF is smart to have both of you as recommended follows.
- Christian Anderson
Yuvi i spend everyday trying to figure out what my job is. :-)
- Robert Scoble
Robert: you're doing for free what no "community manager" could ever do. I'd like to know how much engagement on FF, Twitter is directly related to the Scoble effect.
- Christian Anderson
So Robert, is there a certain point where you loose interest in a site simply because of the onslaught of new users? Does the signal-to-noise ratio go down as more users discover and start to use a site from your perspective?
- Jim McCusker
@Robert: Figured it out yet? ;) You are the only *classical A-Lister* whom I know as being really "approachable", as in I can tweet at you and expect to get a response (or leave a comment here and there's a reasonable chance that you'll respond).
- Yuvi
It's so true, it all boils down to interaction.
- Fredrik Nordmoen
Robert Scoble: I just want to let you know how much I appreciate seeing your feedback and constant participation on FF. Because of this sole factor, I would much rather meet up with you than Mr. Arrington (I follow and respect you both) over a cup of coffee or during a photowalk. To be honest, I don't know how you keep up with it all, but keep it up!
- Justin Korn
what makes Robert and his posts become more viral and engaging is that he does not post and run. He engages in conversations, and unlike Arrington, he is rarely confrontational and doesn’t have the same arrogance. I have followed him for a while, but became a real advocate after his trip to DC. I thought his coverage was engaging, informative and it was awesome that he included your son.
- Fred Neil
Jim: that is a question that needs its own blog post. I generally find that early adopters do tend to get bored but what gets us to leave are jerks and spammers. I think FF might be more resistant to all of these negative effects but we'll have to see.
- Robert Scoble
Robert: trying to inspire new blog posts? not me! ;-)
- Jim McCusker
I liike that Mike Arrington just liked this. :-)
- Robert Scoble
I agree about the participation factor. But I do think that this post and the "Off of the tech entertainment train" post should both be encapsulated in <ego></ego> tags.
- Tom Quinn
Scobleizer theorem of social media = participate indefinitely
- Kerem Ozkan
David: I don't think many Twitter users are jumping ship. I think a lot of them are finally seeing the utility of using both twitter and friendfeed together. But I do agree that it is easier for newer services to get quick adoption because of Twitter. The next big thing will happen even faster than FriendFeed did.
- Robert Scoble
I think the difference from Twitter to FriendFeed is that the casual Twitter followers never made it to FriendFeed. I don't know many casual Twitter users who continue to use Twitter with all it's issues.
- Sal DiStefano
Exactly right. Investment of yourself pays dividends in many ways.
- John Federico
Robert: BINGO BABY! you nailed it with this post... thank you for writing it! Not only is participation key for conversation, but also evangelism of the service; plus, community management. I would expect those as a bare minimum...not, "Oh gee, hey these guys are popular in the blogosphere; on some other service elsewhere so let's tell everyone to follow them here" (doesn't make sense, especially since *some* of them don't even really use FF yet except to aggregate a couple of feeds (cross-post / backup).
- Susan Beebe
This was a great post! As a natural worrier, I held my breath for a while after you said that this community is friendlier than any other. Surely the taint of the general way the Internet seems to operate will eventually ruin this place too? (I really hope not!)
- David Muir
That's interesting, I'd never thought about word count on web pages before, but it does make a difference, especially for a site like Google where its appeal comes in its clean interface.
- Erin
Grant: It's definitely a risk we run by opening up the site. But we do have people watching the changes as they're being made, and it's extremely quick and easy for us to rollback pernicious changes.
- Lon Harris
from twhirl
there was very little vandalism today... just dopes like Ted who vandalize, take a screen shot and the blog it saying "FAIL!" --- wow. I bet at some point someone will vandalize Wikipedia and take a screen shot! We've got folks watching the site constantly, so the longest something will be up is a few minutes.
- Jason Calacanis
vandalism has never really stopped wikipedia from being successful, and mahalo has comparatively greater checks and balances, so in the end a couple of stupid vandals probably won't have an adverse effect, imo
- Erin
Like Napoleon's army after the defeat in Moscow, straggling west, fleeing the hideous frozen hell, we are moving into the (for me, at least) unknown...
- Dave LaFontaine
Ok, trying FF as well. Still like twitter and will be sad if I have to leave it
- Lide Winburn
It seems to me this is kind of a moot point. You draw those who follow you into your convesation and if someone makes a comment that continually intriques you all you have to do is simply subscribe to their ff. No need to wage a big dick contest with numbers of followers here. Its all about the conversation. Just an observation at this point.. I'm just now starting the migration from twitter to FF myself;-)
- Curtis "Billy" Cross

Hi Jason, thanks in advance for the follow.
- Larry Kless
Yes please - it is a challenge how to parallelize your twitter connections on FriendFeed. They really need a good import interface with automatic notifications via DM back to twitter followers.
- Jed White
Great stuff Jason, fan of your work. It would be great to have a Twitter/FriendFeed contact sync application. I'm sure you know some peeps to make that happen. =D
- Grahm Skee

For me, IRC, twitter, FriendFeed, and the like are places I go to interact with people I often don't really know. To a lesser extent, I'll add people on LiveJournal without knowing them, but at least with some shared interests and personalities. Facebook, on the other hand, is more private, has more information, and is more geared toward people you actually know. The News Feed would be useless if it was broadcasting information about people you don't know - why would you care what party they're going to if they live halfway across the world? (for example) At any rate, personality tests will never get old, and I sometimes do them just for fun, but I can't see Facebook ever turning into a place to meet new people, nor do I really want that to happen.

Kangaroo care was highlighted in one of our prenatal courses. Kristine and Sarah pulled that off on Monday. I've also had Matthew sleeping on my chest to start off the last few nights. And by no means do I think our <4 pound situation rivals the hardship you and April had with Camilla. Hers is an amazing story. I know we're in good shape. I'd just feel better if they were both here and with a full bill of health.
- Louis Gray
My heart goes out to your twins...but I'm sure Sarah will pull through to be as strong and big as And when they grow up, it'll be nothing more than a memory, and a story to tell.

Our daughter spent two weeks in NICU after she was born. Stressful time, but we were *so* glad to have her finally home. If Sarah's anything like my daughter, she'll more than make up for the time with a bigger-than-life personality. :)
- Ha3rvey #teamMonique
A good friend with twins had to do the same thing - take one home and leave one behind. She spent most of the first day home crying on the couch (blame hormones there too). But of course they're 5 years old now and healthy as horses. My thoughts go out to all of you and hope that the end of the week gets here in super speed!
- Carla Thompson
I have twins and went through a similar experience when they were born. After a few days, we took them both home. The docs and nurses were cautious with their breathing. In a few days, their concerns went away. At 2.7 years old, they are very healthy boys. We are truly blessed. It was a nerve wracking experience! Good luck!
- Tim FitzGerald
I too was premature and only 4 pound 7 ounces when I was born - not too far off Sarah's weight. She'll be fine and home in no time.

One of the great things about the web is that I can be caught up thinking about something like equity percentages in a startup one minute and then click a link that reminds me what is really important. (I'm so glad the trackback from Guy's "9 Questions" post was broken.) I know Sarah will be fine. We have good friends who had similarly tiny (tinier, even) girls twice, and they are both beautiful and healthy now. I know it must be tough. (The picture of the crib was tough for me, even.) Take care.
- Coty Rosenblath
@Louis: Know how tough it is to leave the hospital without your child. Our first was two months premature and spend his first week and a half in the NICU. That march with the wife back to the car as we left the hospital two days after Dylan was born had to be one of the saddest and longest walks I have ever taken. But the folks running NICUs these days do absolute wonders. Five years later, Dylan, born six pounds and 18 inches, is a tall strapping 48-incher and easily passes for a kid two years older.
- Chris Reed
Same thing happened to us when our daughter was born. Before we could leave hospital our newborn was diagnosed with jaundice, pretty common with newborns we were told, and we had to leave the hospital without her. I understand what Louis is going through, because it was very very difficult. We would visit her in hospital for next 3 days, before she we could bring her home.
- Vic Podcaster
I'm sure she'll be ok. Best wishes from here. ;)

Can't fully relate b/c I haven't been in this situation, but have been through similar medical issues with a newborn. Think positive and don't dwell on the darker nature of your thoughts.

My brother was born 30plus years ago too (like you), weighing 2.2 pounds..they almost pronounced him dead. He lived, and thrived later, healthy as can be. "Google has announced a new feature of Google Maps called MapMaker, which allows anyone with a Google account (therefore, everyone) to edit Google Maps Google Maps . We’re not talking editing your or your friends’ version; we’re talking about the real thing. You can now edit and moderate roads, lakes, parks, POIs, cities and other local features as you please." Finally this launched! Very excited.

Interesting feature - the aerial photography on Google Maps is often a patchwork of tiles stitched together (often containing data from a few years fly bys) - useful that you can edit the map. Do we know why there are restrictions on where in the world you can edit the layers?

"Furthermore, only certain regions of the world are editable: Cyprus, Iceland, Pakistan, Vietnam and the Caribbean nations of: Antigua & Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Grenada, Jamaica, Netherlands Antilles, St. Kitts & Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent & the Grenadines, and Trinidad & Tobago."
- Jim Norris
"On the other hand, this move raises an important question: do you trust a community-built map? In some cases, I do, but for certain situations I’d like to have a slightly more official map as backup." At least in the U.S. most street maps are made by private companies and only loosely based on any official data. What's a better word to describe non-community-built products than "official" — audited? Sponsored?

One of the reasons Wikipedia works is because there are clear guidelines for what can and cannot be added, and there are people running around enforcing those guidelines. (theoretically) Yet, very cool.

Does that mean I can edit roads to fix the Sydney traffic problem?
- Craig Thomler
Too bad I've been away from Jamaica too long to help out. Will be back there next year so I'll try to remember to add some roads in :)
- Shey
Kirk - quite possible; there's always an outlet for those. Mmm, I'll always like puns, though. But interests do change, just hopefully not daily.
- Erin
@saeba yeah I guess.. I'm not really a fad person... once I like something I'm going to like it for a long time.
- Stefan Hayden
listening to peoples' Last.fm stations, via FriendFeed. Pretty fun. @parislemon not so much, schlomo robinowitz has pretty good taste, listened to Leonard Lin's station all day yesterday, now @sarahintampa
Jazz is good taste. Everything else is just... well... music :)
- directeur
didn't know stevenhodson listens to electronica...good stuff.
- Alan Le
Another great use of social filtering. I've become more interested in Flickr and photos through here. Music will have that same quality.
- Hutch Carpenter
I've been doing the same thing Marshall! Let's see.. Recently, I've listened to revcorwin (old friend), onejasonforsale (another friend), stevenhodson, tlandow, and calebelston radio stations. Good stuff! Oh, here is mine: http://www.last.fm/user...
- Phil Glockner
I have a problem with Louis' station, since I can't SIT when listening to it. You can take the club kid out of the clubs... It's probably my favorite but it is completely not conducive to working. Ben, I'll add you, but I'm guessing yours might involved a few flashbacks. LOL. The Dead? Good to see the next generation appreciates some good music.
- Cyndy
Oh yeah.. here I am. ;) Excuse any Hannah Montana and Suzuki pieces... kid iPods sync on my account as well. http://www.last.fm/user...
- Cyndy
Ontario, I love the idea but I just can't keep up with FriendFeed when streaming in in there. I like to either play someone's station or see ones that they "love" on last.fm.
- Cyndy
look at this thread! is FriendFeed awesome or what?? it's SO much fun! did you know MyBlogLog gets 4X as much traffic tho? oh well
- Marshall Kirkpatrick
I've been trying to get into Last.fm the past couple days. I think I'm just not getting it. Pandora seems so much easier.
- Yolanda
how to find people with last.fm in FF?
- Ivan Pope
from twhirl
I've been on Pandora. Gonna have to check out Last.fm.
- Hutch Carpenter
Marshall - re MyBlogLog - If you build it they will come. FF has the infrastructure to continue to grow over time.
- Russellreno
are some people just pandora people and others last.fm people? Because pandora has never appealed to me but I'm a last.fm evangelist.
- Jason Toney
Pandora is fun for the chance to hear things you weren't expecting. I assume Last.fm has some of those aspects as well? Just signed up.
- Hutch Carpenter
i've always been a Pandora user but the social side of things is so much richer in Last.fm. I've just been hovering over peoples' names here on FF and looking for the Last.fm logo. that said, the Pandora player is much easier to use.
- Marshall Kirkpatrick
I'm a pandora person as well, but maybe I'll listen to last.fms on here - I doubt many people share my geeky tastes, but who knows?
- Erin
Yolanda.. Last.fm and Pandora are both great but, like Twitter and FriendFeed, have completely different goals. Pandora works behind the scenes to tailor a stream to you. last.fm throws everything together in a huge pot and gives you the sliders to make a great listening experience. They call this "scrobbling" (actually, the AS in LAST stand for "Audio Scrobbler") .. anyway, like a stew, the more stuff you put in it the better it is. Add a bunch of people, hook up last.fm to your itunes, go nuts!
- Phil Glockner
interesting, hadn't thought about doing that. Gonna check your out, Mr, Kirkpatrick! You better have the Celine Dion at a minimum:)
- Schlomo Rabinowitz
Great discovery Marshall...I think of this as a dynamically generated muxtape made by my friends without the fuss. Here's my eclectic station http://www.last.fm/listen...
- Mark Krynsky
I wish FF was THIS predominant. Either it's editing, or the fact that interviews were in an urban setting that yields this type of market share.
- AJ Kohn
What's the stated Marketshare for FF? I remember it got near 10% out of the box with 1.0.. )goes to watch video ;))

FX == FIREFOX :: FF==FRIENDFEED !! just to make sure that we have the same verbiage :)- any1 has better suggestion for us in the FF community ? :)-
- Peter Dawson
Nice. Some love for the fox. Not surprised, but too bad there's not much out there for alternative browsers like Opera, or Camino (which is definitely my alternate when firefox gives me trouble)
- Erin
15 G Reader feeds added so far. This should make for a nice smorgasborg of stories.
- Mike Fruchter
This is pretty cool idea, a whole set of hand picked stories - and you can't even directly tell who they are coming from, so no biased clicking :)
- Tim Hoeck
Erhan, That should be interesting adding it to G Reader. Let us know your results, I might do the same. I think the duplicates might kill it.
- Mike Fruchter
http://friendfeed.com/e... @Mike Not good or not bad - but I understand that it is not a reader experiment. Because you just read headers : )
- Erhan Erdoğan
Mathew so far interesting. The concept as a whole is not a bad idea. I have found some interesting stories in that room, I other wise would never have saw. It's like a team of hand picked editors, lot of duplication comes with the same people having the same interest's and likes.
- Mike Fruchter
Negatives * Duplication of content * Stories with a note, get imported into the room as a comment. On Friendfeed it shows me as the person who left the comment, not the actual person who noted it in their Google Reader. http://michaelfruchter.com/blog...http://snipurl.com/2oy1o
- Russellreno
The holy grail = solves the duplication of content
- Russellreno
I just loaded Share your Google Reader into Feedly. There were many new items and a lot less duplicated content than I expected.
- Russellreno
Mine is at http://www.google.com/reader... I'll have some social media stuff, but also software testing, baking, and some odds and ends in the mix, since I don't have a single theme for my feeds or what I share.
- Andy Tinkham
since you don't know me, not sure if you're interested in my feed, but it's here: https://www.google.com/reader... Maybe this will encourage me to use the share feature more regularly.
- Erin
Russell, That's very interesting, I think i may try that. Also experimenting with a Yahoo pipe that would solve the duplication issue to an extent.
- Mike Fruchter
Andy, Jason, Erin, Thanks for participating. Feeds have been added.
- Mike Fruchter
wow.. this feed works nicely in my google reader. I added a filtering option using yahoo pipes to remove duplicate url submissions. We'll see how that turns out :)
- Tim Hoeck
