Friendfeed needs to time-stamp the comments.
Yeah, that is something that I have been thinking about. - Kevin Bondelli
Less thinking more action ;) - Alberto Reyes
A tooltip maybe on hover over the quote graphic. Keep it clean - Andrew Smith
Optional feature - timestamp - not default. - Susan Beebe
great idea! - Sarah Perez
it must be part of the API, since fftogo seems to include a time stamp on the comments - Trent Olson
I'm sure they do store the timestamp, even if it isn't currently displayed. - Mack D. Male
Yeah, it's in the api, all comments & likes are timestamped - Glenn Slaven
I think this is a perfect plan. The only issue I might have is that the time information might take-over the conversations. It might just look more cluttered than FF already is. - Ryne Nelson
It would be useful sometimes. - Morton Fox
concur, very useful to have. Make it a display option. Those who would think it's clutter can turn it off then. - Alexander Falk
It is in the API (I use them in fftogo). I vote that the timestamp should appear as text when you hover over the "thought bubble" to the left. - Benjamin Golub
All comments are time-stamped in AlrertThingy and feedalizr - Stephen B from Alert Thingy
Comments are time stamped in bTT as well. - Francois Bochatay from bTT
and also in twhirl - Marco Kaiser from twhirl
agreed. Timestamps are important - Peter Dawson
What about a comment alert?! How do you follow conversations on ff!? - TommaSorchiotti
Not sure if this will add to the functionality, but should be something they can try out... - Dennis Goedegebuure
Not sure a comment alert is necessary. Comments bring the post up to the top of the timeline, which makes it available for anyone who is currently paying attention to Friendfeed. (Not sure why anyone would want their attention brought to Friendfeed if it isn't already there, that would be a huge productivity drain). - Jason Wehmhoener
Please, please remember that the whole world doesn't run on PDT. I don't want to see timestamps in my FF in gReader and have to always try to guess whether the west coast is 17, 16, or 15 hours behind. If you must display timestamps, please put them in GMT. Setting the timestamps on my FF page/in my FF feed to be correct in my local timezone would be even nicer. - James Polley
yeah ! and a hide fonction for each comment - Jonathan
منم به فارسی تایید می کنم - Kamal
we know which came first... but in n argument the comments can edit. that makes time stamping very important so we know when someone made a change - Noah David Simon
a timeline function in general would be nice, make everything more timeframe friendly - Ruben Llibre
Show times either in GMT or in my own timezone, and just make it a tooltip for the quote balloon or something. Don't want it to look cluttered. - Pat Hawks
just make the time relative from each comment, so I know who said what when in perspective. like 5 minutes later Noah David Simon said. <--this opens up - Noah David Simon
like i said earlier about plurk :) - kosmar
Is i really important to know when every single comment is made? Only the last one would really be useful, could have 'last comment on june 1 at..." right beside the date of the post. - John Duff
If the timestamp is a tooltip, then it isn't really "in the way." Maybe we can have all the timestamps as tooltips, except the most recent comment will have the timestamp printed out below it, like John said. - Rishabh Mishra (p248)
I am so tired of entering an empty room and talking to myself for twenty minutes. lol - Russellreno
A needed feature for sure I agree. I suggested this to the FF feedback room some weeks ago. - Mike Fruchter
Any news? - Amiroo ™
<--- try hover your mouse cursor on that little dialog icon - topo
Sorry it's not more obvious, but if you hover your mouse over the comment icon you will see the time that the comment was made. Thanks for letting us know that it's hard to find! The feedback is much appreciated. - Ross Miller
I believe they are timestamped but this data is not yet displayed.... you're right ! - David Berrebi
other than timestamp I also want to be able to like the comments individually =] - Özgür D. Cyric
This thread shows what happens when nobody reads the comments before theirs - Rahsheen ™, Coach Rah
Agreed. The entire time... - Zachary Poley from twhirl
Rahsheen, your point is awesome right now :) - Zachary Poley from twhirl

@Ranjit, sorry, but that was a rather stupid comment, +1 to what Michael said - Gina Häußge
if @Ranjit's point is that it's great to see how far humankind has come in terms of racial/ethnic equality, then I agree. But regardless, kind of an insensitive way to put it. - graham mudd

Have you seen the original size? Almost everyone has a camera! Whoa! - AJ Batac
Hitler identified with the Germanic people, Stalin identified with the Russian people. to me all such definitions are kind of stupid, what with us being 5% removed from the chimpanzee. but such people have always tried to establish boundaries and a monolithic identity within such boundaries. a picture/event like this puts a lie to such separations. i wish people, like Hitler, could see how far the future is from the "truth" they saw - Ranjit Mathoda
graham, i don't think people have come that far in terms of racial/ethnic equality if they are still defining separate races/ethnic groups. i do think we are happy being mostly nicer to people of "other" groups, but that's not quite the same. check out an online dating site and see how many people prefer to date people of a particular group. - Ranjit Mathoda
Throughout the speech there are jabs at the Germans. I'm surprised they were still clapping when he mentioned "Never Again!".... in Darfur. - Sam Pullara

I think this is also why it's not an either/or proposition between Twitter and FriendFeed. Twitter imo will have broader appeal as a simple way to send one to many messages. Explanation: "In January 2007, people from Perth, Australia gathered on a local beach to watch a sky light up with delights near and far. Nearby, fireworks exploded as part of Australia Day celebrations. On the far right, lightning from a thunderstorm flashed in the distance. Near the image center, though, seen through clouds, was the most unusual sight of all: Comet McNaught. The... more... - Andrew Baron

I'm going to side with Brian here. What is right: Comet McNaught was that bright in WA (I use to live there), but I checked my attempted pics, they predate this by over a week. I'm sure the comet was only that bright for less than a week. Second, the main Australia Day fireworks occur in Perth City...which isn't near a beach . Maybe it's Leighton Beach with Fremantle to the left...but it doesn't seem right. I did check the weather records though, there was a storm that night, and it's in the right direction - Duncan Riley
I do hope it is real though...and I forgot how wonderful the environment there is - Duncan Riley

Duncan, last year both Fremantle and I believe Hillarys held their own fireworks for Australia Day. I myself was trying to guess the location this morning. Being a regular on Leighton beach though it doesn't look familiar so I was thinking it may have been taken to the north of Hillarys. It also made me very nostalgic for Perth :) - Penny

but honestly, Twitter isn't good because it can do this, Twitter can do this because it is good (i.e. because it is in widespread use). Any widespread medium, e.g. email or blogs can achieve the same effect if a lot of people are involved - Ivan Pope from twhirl
@Ivan - You are correct, but is the speed of the process in this case the real story for those, like you, that understand this can be done in any widespread medium? That's what I was impressed with. I also like that the first comment was from someone saying they wanted to do that in another city. That person is kind of missing the point like you said. Yes, organize a blood drive, regardless of medium. - Sean
This is a good application of Twitter, but I agree with Ivan that it's mainly an effect of the number of people involved. Look at all the things that people on the Digg communities have accomplished when they were pissed off. Get a moving message out to enough people and they will organize. I will be glad when data portability and connection frameworks like Gnip get established enough that we all have instant huge potential audiences to help persuade to our causes. We could do amazing things. - Fa La La La Lindsay

Are You A Blogger Or A Writer? You Can't Be Both. - http://chrisbonney.typepad.com/chris_b...
Chris contacted me via StumbleUpon. I'm still mulling over his delineation. - Ontario Emperor
Bruce Sterling (famous science fiction writer) once told me that if you can hold someone's attention for hundreds of pages then you are a writer. If you can only hold their attention for a few paragraphs, you are a blogger. - Robert Scoble
Great post but I am not sure if you can be that black & white in this day and age. - Mathew A. Koeneker
@Robert: a) how jealous am I that you spoke to Sterling (very) and b) that's a very astute observation. - AJ Kohn
@scobleizer - what if I can only hold someone's attention for 140 characters? - Ontario Emperor
Seriously, I guess the struggle in my brain is because the category of "blogger" seems to be fading away. I look at myself as not a blogger or a writer, but as a communicator. I communicate via the things I write, the things that I share with comment, the things that I share without comment, and possibly even my FriendFeed "likes." And that's only my online stuff. - Ontario Emperor
I just let Chris Bonney know about this conversation. http://friendfeed.com/e... - Ontario Emperor
Oddly, this article says that a blogger's vision is too limited, and a writer gets paid, but a 'blogger with vision' (i.e. a blogger that also is a marketer etc) is.. a writer? The article goes out on a confusing note. Personally, I think I *want * to be a writer, but I am taking on the smaller challenge of blogging sucessfully to boost my ego to the point of being self-deluded enough to want to write more. - Phil G
This seems ludicrous. Can you imagine someone saying "Are you a novelist or a writer? You can't be both."? Blogging is one type of writing activity. A much better question is "Does saying you are a blogger describe your medium of writing or your genre?. - David Tallan
@Jason: Shalespeare was a playwright and wrote for the stage, even if we can reprint his words in books, newspapers, text files and read them on CDs. A blog entry can similarly be reprinted in books, newspapers, etc., even if they were written for the blog. - David Tallan
@Robert. Some of my favourite writers wrote short stories not novels. I don't think it prevents them from qualifying as "writers". - David Tallan
OE-we use tools to do things. In this case to communicate via test. We shouldn't be defined or limited by the tools. The Net is such a democratizer. Bloggers and podcasters and vloggers used to be like some kind of mystical techno-priesthood since there were special tools and operation of them was difficult. No with Seesmic,Utterz,Twitter,Tumbler anyone can express themselves and become a digital publisher. The bottom line is-how does one use those tools. Do they have something to say? Maybe they don't care - Mark Forman
-They just want to say something - Mark Forman
there are a lot of good thinkers who can't write worth a lick and there are a lot of people who write beautifully but don't think as well. Blogger, writer, ponderer, web publisher, lifestreamer, whatever -- aren't we better off that there's more of it out there no matter what it's called? - Robert Seidman

So, you wash your hands under the spigot (which is annoyingly set back), and then a trail of dirty soapy suds slowly winds its way down the spiral, so you have to run a gallon of water when you're done just to wash it all away...? And if you, say, spit into the sink after brushing your teeth, you'll probably splash places the spiral-trail of water never actually reaches at all, and then you'll have to take a washcloth and clean your sink basin. - ⓞnor

I have a feeling kids of all ages would be dropping coins, balls, etc in there to see them roll down. - Christopher Sacca
this is art, not function. - Russellreno
If it's art, why pretend it's a sink? Why not just make it a pretty fountain somewhere, and not bother with things like a faucet handle? (Similarly, I never understood why so much ornamental pottery is trying to be a bowl or a cup or a vase. Nobody's ever going to eat out of it or put flowers into it, why limit yourself with the false pretense of functionality?) - ⓞnor
If you're going to have a sink in a guest-accessible bathroom, it might as well be something that looks nice. Yes, it's not terribly practical, but so what. Yes it's going to need some extra attention when cleaning, but so what. Someone who has an awesome sink like that is likely to have a housekeeper. @ⓞnor: It's not that it's EITHER a sink OR it's art. It's BOTH. - Cyrus Lendvay
In my view there's a balance between form and function. People are often willing to compromise on functionality in exchange for aesthetic enjoyment. This is true everywhere. 'Getting it done' and 'Feeling good about it' are always goals and in some objects those goals compete. I wouldn't want every sink to have such a focus on aesthetics, but if it was a sink in an environment where the aesthetic experience was more important then it may be a valid tradeoff. - Kevin Fox
(off-topic-friendfeed-gush): man, i love that ff can spark a heated debate with a picture of a sink! - Trent Olson
I love this sink. Our ordinary sinks look pretty nasty if you don't wash them with a sponge pretty frequently, and I seriously doubt we're washing our hands or brushing our teeth in an unusual way. - Jason Wehmhoener
why can't i be rich so i can get all these cool things? - Chris Harris
@Chris Harris: Build one. Concrete isn't very expensive. We built our vanity out of a console table from Pier1 and a home made bowl from Ebay. It looks like we paid $2000 for the whole thing, but our cost was <$250. - Cyrus Lendvay
Kevin: Fair enough; mostly I was responding to Russellreno, who seemed to be saying that it wasn't legitimate to complain about functional deficits. I think it's legitimate to point those out, and also perfectly legitimate to say "yeah, yeah, but it's *so pretty*!". - ⓞnor
That's probably no fun to clean... ;-) - Justin Santamaria
I do think it would be great to have this one in the guest bathroom. Great conversation starter. - Russellreno
Chris, your concrete sinks seem pretty and functional. I like the way embedded leaves look on pottery, but on a sink it would be hard to burn them out and they probably don't match the theme you are going for. Mirrors are always handy in a bathroom, but easy to make a space go from classy to tacky. - Clare Dibble

Firefox 3 Crushes Download Goal: 8 Million + In First Day - Silicon Alley Insider
"Mozilla will set the much-coveted record for most downloads in a day, because more than 8 million people (the actual total seems up for debate) downloaded Firefox 3 in the last 24 hours. Guinness still needs to verify the number, to make it official, but in any event it crushed Mozilla's high-end estimate of 5 million downloads. um, not to rain too hard, but i place very little faith in being able to predict future event based upon historical events because the two are not directly linked, they are independent events. however, i hope very much that obama is elected and we can continue to take action to try to influence that future event to being truth. - Nathan Eckenrode

Good piece by Sarah of the latest incarnation of Flock - Charlie Anzman
Great article, I'll make sure and check out Flock to see what's changed since the first beta. - Aaron Myers

Comments Can Be Blog Posts - http://www.avc.com/a_vc...
This brings up the whole issue of comment ownership again... wonder what Steven Hodson will think of this? - Mark Dykeman
I want to link to specific comments here on FriendFeed for the same reasons. - Robert Scoble
<sarcasem>I can't wait to repost this comment as a full blog post! </sarcasem> - Stefan Hayden
@Stefan that brings me to the point that a lot of blog posts are only comments ;) - Sebastian Küpers
@Stefan: Love the <sarcasm> bit. I think a universal sarcasm font would be most appropriate. - AJ Kohn
Isn't the sarcasm tag going to be part of HTML 5? - Rich
I want to be able to link to comments, comment on comments, like comments, bookmark comments, email comments, etc. Comments are sometimes more valuable than the items that inspire them. Comments are standalone documents. There should be a dedicated central search engine to index all comments across all sites on the Internet. - Sean McBride
Any blog that isn't 100% original content is a comment to something that is 100% original. Somehow comments need to become as decentralised as blogs. Perhaps a Disqus-type system will take off... I hope so! - Rich
Must have sarcasm font! My whole schtick is sarcasm and some people just don't get it! - Aura Mae
ending with /sarcasm works well for me when it /must/ be ephasized as such - Michael W. May from twhirl
Great point! I suggest to folks that if one of their comments on a blog post is getting to be more than two paragraphs, build on that comment (or simply copy&paste) into a blog post of your own. It extends the conversation outwards. - Mike Sansone
sarcasm !important; - Rich
@Mike S. - I pretty much go by your rule. If I start writing a comment and it gets too long I just turn it into a blog post. - Fa La La La Lindsay
more often than not if I find a comments either on my blog or someone eleses that sparks a creative thought I included it as a part of the post plus link back to where it originated. - Steven Hodson

لايك 4 ميلي - saee:Dsharif
رابرت جان گفتم بچه ها لایک بزنن که خوشحال باشی :دی - Mil∂d
لایکیدیم که نگید تهرون بدجاییه - Ebrahim Heidari
تهرون که خیلی خوب جاییه , ابراهیم جان اینا رو خانومش واسش ترجمه میکنه ها :دی - Mil∂d

I'm impressed that friendfeed handles unicode...but can't read a word of arabic. - clarke thomas
Like, just for the Farsi - Hutch Carpenter
What ^^^^ Hutch said. This is INTERESTING. Robert - I mentioned this the other day at breakfast. Interesting trends we're seeing here on FF eh? - Brian Daniel Eisenberg
How about a greasemonkey script w. google translate for now? anyone? Or we need real time translators. Hmmmm. - Brian Daniel Eisenberg
Hang out a second. My wife speaks Farsi, I'll have her translate. - Robert Scoble
Robert - this is the essence of one of the engines that I wanted to build last year. Think of the amazing noise you would get from being able to comprehend a multi-lingual conversation stream. - Brian Daniel Eisenberg
milad says: "Why doesn't anybody like Robert? If Dr. Mzidi had sent this it would have gotten 1,000 likes. Dear Robert I told all the guys to like you so you should be happy. - Robert Scoble
Ebrahim says: "We all like you so you don't say Tehran is a bad place." - Robert Scoble
Milad says: "Tehran is a very good place. Scoble's wife can translate these for him." - Robert Scoble
That is amazing Robert. This type of conversation will change the whole game. I'm 100% convinced. - Brian Daniel Eisenberg
Milad says that if your wife is translating these please post that Persopolis' soccer team is better than Esteghlal (two rival soccer teams in Iran). My comment: sure! My wife says that she would be a fan of Persopolis if she were a soccer fan. - Robert Scoble
My wife added a political comment: "they don't allow women into soccer games in Iran" which is why she never got into the Iranian teams. She says she does watch soccer, though. - Robert Scoble
Scobez - if you like some public companies as much as it seems, why DON'T you own stock in them? - Tad
Brian, won't work ,GoogTranslate doesn't support Persian yet. - Duncan Riley
Tad: I'm not allowed to have investments in the companies we cover. That's a rule among old-school journalists and Fast Company magazine has those rules. Not that it'd matter anyway. I don't have much money and if I did I'd invest in mutual funds, not individual companies. - Robert Scoble
Thanks Robert. And that's a pretty interesting conversation there. Interesting to hear how they think they are perceived. - Hutch Carpenter
Exactly my point Duncan. For translation, people are much better than machines. - Brian Daniel Eisenberg
this just reminds me of why I really want to become truly bi- or multi-lingual - Erin
Yeah - thanks a LOT Robert & Maryam for translating the conversation. Really interesting. - Brian Daniel Eisenberg
A bit more cross cultural communication would be mighty handy in the world. FriendFeed opens up the communication channels, brings world peace. - Michael C. Harris

I'd love to see FriendFeed incorporate the tech used here: http://meglobe.com/ That would be game changing for sure. Translating comments "on the fly" to the appropriate language for the user - killer. - Vince DeGeorge
The World is Flat !! What we are seeing is a leveling of this world on twitter and FF. IF only we could have a mousover that auto translates non -English comments into English !! This would bridge a cross cultural communication gap and transform the way we keep chatting !! :)- - Peter Dawson
@Vince DeGeorge- Wouldn't be it better to have a default language for your profile here in FF? Once FF know the numbers, then translation is a step closer to reality. - Roberto Bonini
This is really interesting.. I wouldn't think you guys even want to know what these guys are saying, but Robert this is very unique and I think all the Persian guys liked what you did.. Maybe I should start translating some of my funny comments ;) Very cool job Robert! - تنهاترین انجل

All the Farsi users on FriendFeed are getting my wife's family interested in FriendFeed. It's amazing to watch their interest go way up after they see that not just geeks are on.
I'm guessing that they are here because the government hasn't yet blocked this service. - Robert Scoble
Didn't know your wife's family was Iranian. - Mark Forman
Yup. Maryam lived in Tehran until she was 14. Her family sent her to study in Silicon Valley because they were afraid for how she'd live there. She has some interesting stories of being bombed by the Iraqis with American bombs while listening to the BBC. - Robert Scoble
I wouldn't be surprised if it was because of the filter either - mjc
I think it's great when any device can foster communication between people from all over sans government or NGO's. International trade has done far more for world peace than UN. - Mark Forman
I talked to a guy today at #barcampseattle who said there is no censorship of Internet in Iran or UAE (Dubai). Can you confirm? - Brian Daniel Eisenberg
I knew many Iranian students/emigres because was going to school in AZ right after the Shah fell from power. The AZ climate was very attractive to Iranians due to it's similarities with Iran. Love Persian food myself. - Mark Forman
Brian: totally false. At least in Iran's case. - Robert Scoble
To mark: which Persian foods?: - Zahra HB
There is systemic censorship. My wife never even heard about the Holocaust until she came to the US. - Robert Scoble
That's what I thought too. Thx for clarification. - Brian Daniel Eisenberg
to Brian: false! I'm from Iran - Zahra HB
Zahra HB: So do you jump from social network to social network to avoid the censorship? Have they not yet blocked Friendfeed? Do you think they will? - Brian Daniel Eisenberg
no they did'nt block friendfeed yet. but facebook and flicker are filtered! and "social network" to "social network"?! what is the diffrent?! - Zahra HB
@Zahra-it's been so long since I've eaten it just remember I liked pretty much any that I ate. I know middle eastern food all related but remember Persian food having a nice delicateness on the palate. My friend's restaurant was called the Mustache Cafe. - Mark Forman
Mark: now you know why I'm gaining weight. I have great Iranian food regularly! :-) - Robert Scoble
to mark: wowwwwwwwwwwww - Zahra HB
Zahra HB - By "social network to social network" - I'm asking if you are forced to move to new sites to be able to communicate openly and avoid the filters. - Brian Daniel Eisenberg
to brain, sometimes. but many of persian users use VPN or proxy to bypass the filtering - Zahra HB
well all the old races make good food. My wife is taiwanese and I live in Taiwan. How do you think od races get to be old races igf they don't know how to do business and cook?::D Re; weight @ Scoble. tell that to Loren :D - Mark Forman from twhirl
Brian: yes, that's what is happening, my wife says. Those in oppressed countries like Iran and China are used to this little game and spread word quickly about new services and also other ways to communicate. - Robert Scoble
Mark: Loren smoked cigs last time I saw him. I'd rather be a fat dude than someone who smokes. - Robert Scoble
Zahra HB: I see. Thanks for the info. It's great to see these types of conversations happening in real time on Friendfeed! I find this fascinating. - Brian Daniel Eisenberg
And, anyway, I ran four marathons in high school. Best time was 3:14. I ran enough in high school that I figured I could coast for a while. Plus, I know so many people who've been in awesome shape and have died young anyway. Enjoy life and eat more Persian food, is what I say! :-) - Robert Scoble
Does your wife make fresh yoghurt? I think good yoghurt is one of the best foods known to man. - Mark Forman
Robert - you went 3:14 in high school? Wow! - Hutch Carpenter
to brain. yes:( Viva friendfeed ;) - Zahra HB
Hutch: yeah, and I did that 3:14 from Los Gatos to Santa Cruz which has a 2,500-foot mountain in the middle of it, so we went up and down 2,500 feet in elevation during the marathon too. Oh, and on that day it was raining heavily and had a 20 mph wind in my face. Damn I was in good shape back then. Of course back then we didn't have cool stuff on computers to distract us from running for hours a day. Sigh. - Robert Scoble
I went to Tehran for a snowboarding trip this past winter, one of the most beautiful citites i have been to, and as scobliezer said Iranian food is good. They are very hospitable! - Ismail D
Trying to tempt Iranian friends to FriendFeed using this post. - Michael C. Harris
ماست فقط ماست گوسفند - فوهاد صا.
haha, I found all men from all countries are same, all of iran's viewers wrote about the iranian foods , seems that tummy is the most important element in body ;)) - Zahra HB
Say "Hi" and "Welcome" to your wife and all Iranians that think FF is cool, cuz it is!! I feel sad for all those people in info/comm suppressed countries. That's why America is sooo great!! NO censorship. I love that... freedom of speech!! YEAH!!!!! May the entire world join us! =) - Susan Beebe
Foad: that made Maryam laugh. She was expecting something geeky and you said that the only good yogurt is that made from lamb milk. - Robert Scoble
خسته نباشی٬ چه کشف مهمی کردی - گناهکار
رابرت: اسمایلی تشکر از مریم خانوم - فوهاد صا.
Brian Daniel Eisenberg: in UAE sites are blocked like porn web sites etc, and twitter for some reason is blocked by one of the operators (Think its because of the SMS), IRAN most social networking sites are blocked - Ismail D
we iranians, have a great sense of humor because of country's situation - Kamal
OK we need translation services inside FriendFeed NOW. I'd love to read *ALL* these posts and I cannot... but I am really happy to see all the lively conversation from Iranian Farsi speaking folks here... this is really beautiful! Some of my best friends in California were exports from Iran. - Susan Beebe
Just because it's not English, doesn't mean it's not geeky ;P - xero
This is really interesting for me how much you all are interested on translation of these guys words!!!! and I think FF is one of best tools to communicate with different people across the world... I will be happy to translate sometimes also if anyone needs translation ;) اسمایلی مترجم :D in Farsi FF we have different similes guys have made up themselves to make their comments more interesting and what I said in Farsi was one of those similes : translator smile :D have fun all :) - تنهاترین انجل
تنها ترین - would appreciate any translations you want to do. It really adds a lot to the friendfeed experience. - Brian Daniel Eisenberg

Does social networking online take away socializing off line?
Curious to hear from you Friendfeeders on this topic. Has your social life diminished off line because of spending to much time online? - Mike Fruchter
It has increased, but my situation is unusual. The net lets me have a social life. - Michael W. May from twhirl
I have a thriving social life, the net has only made it even more active - Leslie Poston
Married with two kids, professional blogger. I didn't have much of a social life to start with. - Mark "Rizzn" Hopkins
Bump for the morning folks. Would love to hear some more on this topic. - Mike Fruchter
No, My social life revolves around my photographer friends. I met those friends through Flickr. I now live alone. When I am not physically with my friends I stay connected using the phone or the internet. - Russellreno
Mike: regarding your bump, I am the last commenter far too often. When I return I feel like I was alone in the room talking to myself. - Russellreno
Russell thanks for the feed back. You hit on another good point, with the flurry of content being shared on FF, all to often engaging conversations and comments are left in the dust.I start to scan my comments link more often just for this reason. - Mike Fruchter
So true. Waiting for the time stamp as you know. - Russellreno
Mmm, I agree that social networking online enables offline socializing - I think I'm online more, personally, because most of my friends are off at college and online is really the only way to talk to them, particularly given timezone differences. I was never a terribly social person, anyway, though... - Erin
Not really.. I think that social online life is an enhancer to offline social life.. at least I get to know a lot more about the group and people ..its like a meeting a good friend for the 1st time.. w./out social apps.. that experience is not forthcoming !! - Peter Dawson
Hutch Carpenter
Do Regular People Really Read Blogs? - http://www.readwriteweb.com/archive...
just got done reading that-what are blogs? online newsletters, fanzines, indie magazines? Blog is too catch all and too nerdy. Maybe time for it's retirement. - Mark Forman
"Regular" People read web pages... a complete abstraction of what web content is and (maybe) should be. Their perception of the content is not altered by the fact that they're reading a "blog". Now, i'm not talking about teens for whom a blog has a different meaning than the one we use. - directeur
i wonder this all the time - washwords from twhirl
Hutch - I make a point of reading my own blog on a regular basis - Charlie Anzman
Remember the days of huge cms? When the hype was about having multiple modules in one's website? There was sections called "news", "articles"... and visitors were able to comment too... what have we done since then? We simplified :) - directeur
yes. but they read them differently. My wife for example goes to each blog individually and she wont use a feedreader no matter how many times I've told her she should. - Duncan Riley
agreed - lots of people in my work go the page and don't use the reader... - ben rogers from twhirl
I always wonder if a lot of people might not even know they are reading blogs... - Frederic
Frederic: Exactly :) - directeur
It is all about Trust and interest. If you know the people you can get them to read your blog. It is like if the Social Media people know you they will read your blog. It is about relationships. Would you got to someone's house if you do not know them? - Igor The Troll יִצְחָק
@Charlie - and you're a regular guy, right? - Hutch Carpenter
Don't agree with the classification - what is regular? There are no 'regular' people demographically unless we get to talking in terms of internet usage statistics - there are those who spend their lives on the it day in and day out and those who simply use it when they have a need to. While the former would, sheerly out of necessity be organised and methodical about it; the latter would have a 'need' driven usage - which does not entail reading a blog. - Parth Awasthi
