65536 you say!? ....I'd know that number ANYWHERE!.. thats the old MAX_INT number....now that i think about it, Excel used only to be able to handle this number of rows....either way, the problem is the "array of rows" is indexed using a small(ish) [16-Bit] integer rather than a full "modern" integer - i'd check you are running the latest version of OOo *End geeky explanation* - Mr.Tiggr

ok...so we (developers) ALL forgot to use 32bit Integers!!...even THEN people would complain you can't have more than 2147483647 rows in a spreadsheet ......IMHO if you are misusing a SPREADSHEET for what a DATABASE should be used for (65535+ rows!) then it really aint a bug...best tool for the job please people! :D - Mr.Tiggr

Tiggr, all well and good until you're on a project that, when it began, would never need 60K rows, but grows over time. You can't expect a general office worker to think 'wow, this sheet is getting really big, I should write a database to port it to' especially when many people doing data entry have neither the skill or the influence to enact such a project. - Kevin Fox

@Kevin....I hear your point but rebut that in such a case, it doesn't just get to the stage of "gee this is getting big" overnight - this kind of performance issue (such a big SS will more than likely be slooooow!) becomes one of thous painful office jokes over time; suffice to say that there is always plenty of time to do a quick import into MS Access and keep on going (or a number of other techniques)... again "the right tool for the job" ; even lack of foresight when creating the Spreadsheet originally can be corrected easily later; there is no reason to blame Speadsheets for being "buggy" when you hit their practical limits if you are using them outside of thier inteded Use Case. - Mr.Tiggr

Ahh, but I didn't blame it for being buggy. I'm only commenting on the practical realities of the workplace and how tools can help users out, even when the right answer is to let users know that they need to move to different tool.
