Just a girl in California. I'm not a geek, I don't work in technology, and I still use paper and pen to make to-do lists. I'm a mom, a friend, and a dork.
I am sure this mail would be coming to you as a surprise since we have never met before and you would also be asking why I have decided to chose you amongst the numerous internet users in the world, precisely I cannot say why I have chosen you but do not be worried for I come in peace and something very positive is about to happen to your life...

Jake and I sharing a monster marshmallow at the bonfire Saturday night.
Yes ladies and gents. It's that point int he week where I start spazing about next week's assignments. Coming up: A quiz, 2 more chapters, a Powerpoint presentation and a a discussion on a lesson to integrated technology into the classroom.
I'm home today. Walked into my dad's office and fell apart after arriving 45 minutes late and realizing I didn't have my wallet (which I needed to renew my license today). So I'm home, in pj's relaxing.
That sounds like a perfectly reasonable response to the start of your day.
- vicster
And that was AFTER I had to turn around to go home to get the renewal paperwork while STILL forgetting my wallet. Sigh....I want a do over.

"One of my go-to dishes is sausage and peppers, because it's so easy to make, requires minimal ingredients, and is versatile. I usually keep some hot Italian sausages in the freezer so I can make this; as long as I have tomato sauce, garlic, onions, and peppers, I'm pretty much all set. You can adjust the recipe to be spicy or not spicy."

I make a creole version of this on a regular basis except that I use Tofurky vegetarian Italian Sausages.

I've used chicken before and used it as a topping on rice or as a fajita filling.

I usually make mine with spicy turkey sausage. Nom.

Akiva, I helped a friend do this for a vegan lunch catering job. She made a gluten sausage from a recipe she found online. Everyday Dish, I think.

I'm done!!! ::::slaps the computer upside the monitor:::: Homework is all turned in.
I've taken a few online courses and I enjoyed them, but I think the subject one studies makes a big difference in the overall experience. Some classes need to be taken in the classroom in order to get a real grasp of the subject. Hope it gets better for you, Katie. Best of luck! :-)

Thanks Anna. I'm into week #2 out of 6. Just trudging along to complete it and clear my teaching credential for future use.

"When the weather gets cold and the days shorter, I love to light candles for the dinner table, even if it's just an everyday, mid-week meal. And even (or especially) when it's just me and my plate of pasta. How about you?"

Just did the other night to celebrate our anniversary. Unfortunately it was a candlelit dinner with a 3 1/2 year old playing under the table.
- Katie: Whelmed Overly
We used to do it a lot; maybe 2 - 3 times a week. No special occasion needed. But since we've moved here, I don't think we've ever done it because the candles are no longer nearby. I should fix it that for tonight's dinner.
- Anika
We used to do it 3-4x/wk before the sprout. Now once/wk if we're lucky.

I use candles a lot during fall/winter. They help me fight depression.
- Spidra Webster
I'm kinda pre-programmed to hate scented ones, so I have a bit of an aversion even to unscented ones. I may need to get over that.

if i eat at computer and i watch a picture of candle with light.. does that count ;)?

"Last Wednesday was Armistice Day, when on the "eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month", in 1918, the armistice was signed for the cessation of hostilities on the Western Front at the end of World War I. The date is now observed by many of the allied nations from that era as Veterans Day, Armistice Day, Remembrance Day or Poppy Day - a day set aside to commemorate the sacrifices made by those in the armed forces and their families. "Two years ago, I attended the annual conference of The Society of Garden Designers in England. The chairman’s opening remarks were a bold statement which resonated as a call to all present to design gardens more in line with the upcoming generations passions and lifestyle. He basically said that getting them interested in gardens as we have known them was probably already a lost challenge. Today, I feel he may have been heard. I see more and more creative alternatives offering up the “idea” of a garden rather than gardens described in dictionaries."

Just left a message for pediatrician. Looking to find out if tantrums are normal for his age/personality or if he needs to be assessed for delays/issues.
3 1/2. His tantrums are excessive, last 1.5-3 hours long and they are violent.
- Katie: Whelmed Overly
just give me fiiivvvve minutees alone with him ~ no joking ~ there's no harm in getting it checked out

Age 3 is the worst for tantrums. I call it the "Terrible Threes" not the Twos
- Shey, Jamaican of FF
My son had those issues. He's fine, but can be emotional at times. Wouldn't hurt to get it checked out.
- Eric @ CS Techcast
Thanks everyone. I think I'm just at the end of my rope. So tired from the lack of sleep and the anger in his tantrums is soooooo extreme, I don't get it. I'm trying not to feel hopeless but that's where I am :o(
- Katie: Whelmed Overly
Shey: My SO calls it the "Terrible T's" and he includes twos, threes, and teens.
- Katie: Whelmed Overly
Hahahha! His teacher mentioned her the other day. Wish I had TV to watch a show and get an idea. Hope the pedi will point me in the right direction for help.
- Katie: Whelmed Overly
What makes this worse, too, is that my 3.5 yo looks like he's 5 so people who care for him tend to forget that he's a little guy still and get frustrated when he throws a fit.
- Katie: Whelmed Overly
Hugs, that sounds really, really hard. We had tantrums at that age but they were short. Don't bemoan not having Supernanny - her solutions are one size fits all so mostly useless. What do you do when he throws his fits? Have you tried talking to him when he's calm and happy, about the need to find a solution to this problem? Jane Nelsen recommends creating a special place where a kid...

Also, you are doing the right thing by seeking outside help!
- Laura Norvig
What we've noted so far is this: When he's calm we discuss what's appropriate, how to get help (from teacher, adult in charge) when needed, and also consequences and rewards. So on the way to school, we talk about listening, using our words, asking teacher for help, and what are the consequences and rewards for those actions.
- Katie: Whelmed Overly
he can go all day and be fine (even though he's struggling in day care but that's a WHOLE other issue) and then go to bed like normal with no fight. But come 12:30 or 1:30 he wants in my bed. It'll start off calmly and we'll put him back, tuck him in and remind him he can come in when the alarm goes off and the sun is up. Otherwise he needs to be in his bed. This is all calmly discussed and even discussed before he goes to be around 8:00. But he's willful and stubborn and will continue to come into out bed.
- Katie: Whelmed Overly
But we're consistent even to our own demise. That's where the tussle ensues. He wants one thing and we're sticking to our guns. After an hour he gets frustrated that he isn't getting his way and then it's down hill from there.
- Katie: Whelmed Overly
Thanks Shev. I'll look into it. I have another book about high spirited children but I never get the time to read.
- Katie: Whelmed Overly
I think you might want to see a child psychologist rather than a pediatrician, but it's a good idea to get some outside input
- William Harryman
Yep, Cebastian alright. Three is a horrible age. I always tell my friends that if I could skip from 1.5 to 4 years old, I will do it in a second. It's like Shey said. It' isn't the "Terrible Twos;" it's the "Terrible Threes." It will eventually get better. If you see Cebastian now, you wouldn't think he was the kid causing his mother and aunts to cry from exhaustion.
- Shevonne
I know you have a lower voice, but sometimes with children like ours, you have to turn on what I call the "Exorcist" voice, so they know you mean business.
- Shevonne
HAHAAH!! Shev for some reason that tickled me. An exorcist voice.
- Katie: Whelmed Overly
@William: I'm seeing pediatrician as a first step so that if necessary, I can get a referral to a psychologist within my insurance/doctor's team.
- Katie: Whelmed Overly
Wow, came into this thread late Katie - had this problem with one of my kids - definitely seek outside help - WH is right on the money. Child psychologist perhaps recommended by your pediatrician is a very good idea. You are not alone here!
- triple t
Good to know I'm in good company. Some of this might have to do with a visit he had with his "dad" Thursday night. If that's the case, a counselor or psychologist to help us manage him after these visits would be welcomed. I'm just so so so tired, physically and emotionally.
- Katie: Whelmed Overly
Having just come off a nanny job with three girls where the oldest (just turned 6) had these issues, I'd say to definitely look into it. Her parents kept thinking she'd grow out of it and your little guy may do so, but it sounds like he's got a lot going on in his life. I also know that therapy for the oldest did little immediately but a behaviorist seemed to work.
- Lis Miller
Also - I don't know if this will fly with you guys, but my parents used to tell me that we could sleep on the ground in their room or in our own bed. That way if we really needed to be close to our parents, we could be but it also meant we were generally uncomfortable.
- Lis Miller
You might also want to look at dietary issues/nutritional deficiency issues. These things can have a powerful effect on behavior, even in adults.
- Spidra Webster
We've been going around again about bedtime. Some nights are better than others. He's totally not sleeping through the night anymore. It's like having an infant again. We have a pediatrician appt tomorrow to talk and hopefully get some help. He's slept by my bed, too. He'll make a little bed but then he still doesn't sleep and wakes every hour or so with an attempt into my bed. I'm...

the worst things parents can do is to lay down or sleep with their child because they come to be depended on that...........and its such a hard habit to break
- VAL D.
I don't think I'd say it's the worst thing. It's tough now because I have certain expectations about sleeping. And this is not what I want.
- Katie: Whelmed Overly
VAL D. - It's actually not a horrible thing. Plenty of parents cosleep happily. As long as all participants are happy, then it's fine. But when they're not... things need to change.
- Lis Miller
I mean, I've never met a child who coslept who's cosleeping at 15;)
- Lis Miller
We co-slept with Audrey and now she's sleeping just fine in her own crib in her own room. I prefer this rather than the 'cry it out' method but that's just me.
- Akiva Moskovitz
@Lis: HAahahah! I keep telling myself this. But when you're lacking sleep, it feel like they will be sharing your bed at 15!
- Katie: Whelmed Overly
@Akiva: I really don't mind the co-sleeping part either. That doesn't bother me. What bothers me is that at 3.5 he's not sleeping through the night and waking constantly, whether on my floor, in his bed, or in my bed. You know, it just gets exhausting. And his fighting, doesn't help.
- Katie: Whelmed Overly
Sorry, Katie, that was actually a comment directed specifically at VAL D.
- Akiva Moskovitz
Lis: I knew someone who coslept at the age of 19. It can happen...
- FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
Tina - you're kidding, right? Katie - could he be having night terrors?
- Lis Miller
@Lis: Not that I know of. He wakes fine and throws tantrums when we say no to him being in our bed. For example, last night he went to bed on the floor next to me. So bed time was much smoother. but he woke at 1:30 and stood by my bed asking for me to move over for him. I said he needed to go back to sleep on the floor with his bear and he did after I put his blankets on him. Then he woke every hour till around 4:45am he got into my bed and we tried to sleep till the alarm went off.
- Katie: Whelmed Overly
Katie - has he always been a light sleeper? The 3 year old (middle child) of the girls I worked with was not a good sleeper and would sometimes wake every hour and cry because she wanted to sleep in mommy's bed or her blankie wasn't right or SOMETHING. It was exhausting.
- Lis Miller
