New insights into web application performance - http://googlewebtoolkit.blogspot.com/2009...
Looking forward to these new tools. CSS is still pretty much a black box to developers. - Matt Mastracci
... and layout, and blitting, and HTML parsing, and Javascript parsing, and almost everything else that goes on under the hood. It's amazing how much crap can happen from things like a simple call to Element.offsetLeft. - Joel Webber
I'm afraid to see how expensive some of my favorite methods are going to be. - Matt Mastracci
Oh, don't worry. Most methods turn out to be cheap sometimes. The hard part's knowing *when* they're going to be cheap, and when expensive :) - Joel Webber
Instrumentation is King. - Mathew Butler from iPhone
*bookmarked!* - Micah Wittman
The motto of performance on the web is almost everything is cheap...sometimes. (even your mom) - James R
Been so busy lately that I don't know what is going on in the world #nowiamwaybehindingooglereader

"Do something fun for yourself everyday" - John Mellencamp interview on NPR
Does he have kids? Maybe his fun thing is moving Cougar in and out of his name :) - Joel Webber
Apparently he does have kids. The statement was interesting. He was basically repeating something his dad always tells him. But the point he made was that people are always investing their time into work and a lot of people actually never cash out. The day they die they say they are working so they can eventually enjoy life. Kind of obvious, but it's always somewhat more interesting when you hear it from a guy who sang about pink houses. - Kelly Norton
Sounds like the sentiments in "The 4-hour Work Week" Tim F calls it "life deferral" - Bruce Johnson from BuddyFeed

@brizzly - New facebook interop is awesome, but you have a css class .fb-image that causes everyone's FARKLE score images to be enormous.
Why is Firebug Lite offered on Safari? (http://getfirebug.com/lite...) The web inspector in Safari does all this and more.
Probably because people are used to the UI interface of Firebug. - Ray Cromwell
http://grooveshark.com/ now has a much improved UI.
Too much collaboration makes the nerves edgy and the results sketchy.
Life around the house is exciting now that Ali is walking. We found the remote control in the dog's water dish today.
Ahhhh. That explains why I have three new scars: http://www.caritasgoodsam.org/Health...

We need this guy's ideas institutionalized through sabbaticals. I think lots of people would happily take the occasional unpaid sabbatical if they were supported by their jobs. - Joel Webber
Rem Koolhaus' proposal for the European Union flag

Kidding, right? I respect Koolhaus and all, but this makes me want to tear my eyes out. - Joel Webber
Seriously, Palin should've won the Nobel Peace Prize for all of her long hours in the backyard keeping an eye on Russia.
Would you have considered following up to this job posting? http://groups.google.com/group...
The best is the first reply: "Erm? Correct me if I'm wrong, but are commercial activities on the Internet suddenly smiled upon? It sounds very much like you know what you're doing, but I can't say I've ever seen an Internet server dedicated to the commercial aspects of electronic communication (short of Compu$erve, and that doesn't really count). Mind explaining where the loophole lies? " - Andrew Bowers
Actually, the best is Marc's reply to this reply: "Actually, in general, yes." - Joel Webber
I liked this one: " Before people start to get upset about the "death" of public domain Mosaic, just consider these two words: Microsoft Mosaic. <shudder> It could be worse. Much worse. " - Ray Cromwell
I made a sandwich earlier and was amazed how little it did to satisfy my hunger. Fifteen minutes later I found my sandwich in the den with only a single bite taken out of it.
take a nap, brother - Bruce Johnson from BuddyFeed
Heh, I don't need a nap. What I need is a baby sitter. - Kelly Norton
Celebration penalties in college football ... stoopid. I don't even like football that much, but when penalties affect the outcome of the game (only because a team celebrated a late score) I decide to find another way to spend my time.
Google QSB just crashed on my mac. It has never done that. I was so disoriented I didn't know what to do and had to clumsily make my way into /Applications
Oh the opportunities I've seen missed, http://jwz.livejournal.com/1096401... (I guess Lemmings was more prediction than fad)
Finally in Atlanta ... American Airlines now has five planes' luggage on one conveyor belt.
American Airlines dicked around "repairing" the plane (there was nothing wrong) and now there is a ground stop in Atlanta.
6 American Airline flights in the past week ... 3 delayed while they repair the plane. 50% good or bad?

Drove out of Cane Garden Bay at night ... OMG! Jeep barely goes up, an unguarded cliff on the left ... and we're driving on the left.
@knowuh vim is exactly what I switched back to. I just wish it had a good project view like eclipse and textmate.
