I like these lines."The people I follow have their own thoughts, their own passions. They do different things well." Another scribkin quote! http://kenmat.tumblr.com/post/... Thanks, Phil! - Kenichi Matsumoto
"Personally, I can’t write if I feel like I am just doing it to compete." Yup - Hutch Carpenter
it's in Bulgaria, they are building a new artificial lake and water power plant. Not camping, I was working there, and I took this photos on the way back from Trigrad to the Plovdiv. But definitely a place to visit, Bulgaria is beautiful, the people are nice, and it's relatively cheap. - Roland Hesz
"Why It’s Cool - Cameras are cool and bikes are cool, and the two together are downright freezing. Plus, the Tour de France is in full swing. It’s the season of the bike!" - Kenichi Matsumoto via Bookmarklet
hear hear. Why not start tonight? When's the last time you read a book? played a game of REAL scrabble with your wife/partner? Talked to your kid? Go offline. NOW. - melmcbride
We can work on our individual lives and get those in order. But what about the bigger picture? - Mark Dykeman
Wait, smiley's don't count as body language?? ;) - felix
lol@felix It's the best I can do from a keyboard! - Shey
Shey, I don't agree. I find that many people aren't even aware of social media and are missing out. Also social media and real life interactions are not mutually exclusive. - Alan Le
@Alan I think the point Shey's making is that some people in the "Social Media World" (I call them "Tech-Nerds" .. :D) are so engrossed in Social Media that they become ignorant of the REAL Social World -- becoming hopelessly ignorant of the REAL ramifications of their actions. - Jasmin Smith
Re. Soc Media vs RW - You learn best by doing imho? Observation only takes one so far. - Mathew A. Koeneker
@Matthew I think the happy ending is "doing", i.e. a change in how we behave with and relate to one another. But if you don't take a step back and look outside your little bubble -- you get a pretty narrow-minded view. - Shey
"no excess" is believed as one of the most important thought in buddhism. better stay off the online Social stuff somewhat. thx, shey! - Kenichi Matsumoto
$1.50? If it's good and fresh then that's a steal. - James
yeah it's decent and fresh. There is better quality stuff for $2+ but in a pinch this does fine. - Mark Forman
Unless you are eating supermarket sushi in Hawaii. Best sushi I ever ate. - Christian Burns
Best I ate was in Japan-no surprise. Nothing cheap in Japan, but worst quality starts at good so... - Mark Forman
I've never seen sushi in the supermarket here. - jjprojects
three weeks ago, the semi-stale donuts at the safeway by my office went for $0.59 each. This morning, they're $0.75...over 25% increase in less than a month... but just like the recession, inflation is all in your head baby! ;-) i live in san francisco, btw. - .LAG
LAG-comfort is that your paying higher prices with shrunken dollars... xD - Mark Forman
Supermarket sushi can be fantastic if fresh. Haven't been to Taiwan in 10+ years. In the US, usually at Japanese grocery stores, or the lovely co-op in Ashland, OR. - Mitchell Tsai
Mark, that's not bad even when compared to Japan. - Kenichi Matsumoto
Mitchell- Are you or your family from here? - Mark Forman
Marcello, you got the point. The thing is, as you wrote on your blog post, to keep a balance between social stuff and personal stuff. Like, if you tweet too much you don't have anything to say on your blog post. And the language problem for us (Japanese and Italian) is another big problem. But I think we can solve these problems in the future. Only time will tell. - Kenichi Matsumoto
Thanks Kenichi, you are right, only time will tell. I am for instance experimenting with the two languages - two blogs approach, but that is really time consuming. I really would love an automatic translator/language filter. I mean a working one... - Marcello Del Bono
Yep. On google translate, Japanese to English is horrible. In reverse, I'm thinking of writng in a translatable sentences in Japanese. I mean, if I could write in very standard Japanese it would be translated into English correctly. Still, it's really hard for now :( - Kenichi Matsumoto
I really liked this post. It is great to hear about this perspective from someone so deep in the trenches. This insight is very helpful to understanding the current landscape of blogging. - Mindy Koch
A lot of valid points that I agree with. - Adrian Nadeau
I loved the post. Friendfeed is adding a lot of exposure to our digital identity. Do you feel there is a need for a new social netiquette? I.e don't post your "I have a new blog post: domain.com/post " on twitter if you already linked friendfeed to your twitter account AND to your blog? I would love to hear your opinions about that - Marcello Del Bono
Just noticed the same. When I started blogging I always asked myself: Should I post this story on my blog or try to sell it to a magazine or newspaper. Now it's increasingly the question if I should blog it or post it to Twitter or FriendFeed. - benedikt
And what about non native english speakers (like me). I blog, twit and post in friendfeed both on italian and english language. is that annoying for non-italian speakers ? I often post the same news on my italian language blog (in italian) and on my english language blog (in english). they are both linked on friendfeed. Is that correct? Is that annoying? I don't have the answers... - Marcello Del Bono
Marcello, it is not annoying, it is just shows a need for filtering for languages. People will ignore things that they cannot read, so let them filter it. - Rob Diana
Rise of rapid yet drastic increment of the socialization on the web might be causing this confusion, I guess. "Time is a cure." - Kenichi Matsumoto
@Kenichi: Will there be a time when we can socialize on the web without having to take care of different languages? Going beyond Babel in social networking? - benedikt
benedikt, I made a confusion here. sorry! I meant to comment on the original post. btw, I'm having the same problem as Marcello pointed out above. I'm a Japanese. - Kenichi Matsumoto
For someone who recently started blogging and use friendfeed, I find this post enlightening - Laurent Rozenfeld
Unless your blog is quite unsuccessful, or you've got an enormous social media following, I'm not sure how this works. 20 times the people will read one of my blog posts vice a Tweat or FF blurb. And, of course, I can actually develop a coherent thought (theoretically) in a blog post. And monetize it. - James Joyner
I think I understand Kenichi. I just wrote a post about the points I see in this thread. http://marcello.delbono.eu/200... Is it correct to link my blog post on this thread? I wrote it on my blog since I have more space there, and I can also use images and formatting. But is this kind of cross-referencing correct? Is it noising? Is it value adding? ... - Marcello Del Bono
Excellent post, Louis. Your brain is in no way suffering from sleep deprivation! - Carla Thompson
Thoughtful post. I wish I could whip up a post in 30 minutes flat. - kamla bhatt
Louis - I thought you said, "that's why I invented him" below. lol! ;-) Thanks for your kind words though. - Jesse Stay
Marcello I don't think there are enough FriendFeed users yet to completely forgo Twitter as an additional platform for sharing content. I still have twice the friends on Twitter as I do FriendFeed. - Jesse Stay
Marcello I think the only standard is that you be yourself - if you get criticized, certainly be courteous, but don't worry too much about any set "rules". You'll be fine. :-) - Jesse Stay
Jesse that's true. Twitter is stil much more mainstream, and growing than FF. But the value proposition of the tools is different: FF is the provider of a social me, a creator of digital identity from your digital fragments around the net, enriched with blogging and social functionalities. Twitter is a microblogging app, istead. So they are two different tools, with different purposes - Marcello Del Bono
Raoul! I love your favs. Can I re-fav for myself in particular? Thanks. - Kenichi Matsumoto
Why not? Go right ahead. The idea is to highlight good photographs, and good photographs deserve to be highlighted as often as possible. (And thanks!) - Raoul Pop
..it's actually a copy-cat incident of an event that happened a few years ago. I think the Akihabara incident stirred up something in the disgruntled youth of Japan. I heard it said that there is a spike in copy-cat suicides in the same demographic when one is reported in the news because people who relate to the person in the news gain courage to fulfill whatever has been on their mind. It's an unsettling trend. - Stuart Woodward
