"we offer an updated chart showing the real, monthly unemployment figures plotted in red dots on the Obama advisers’ own chart depicting their projections. This chart was created by “Geoff” at the Web site Innocent Bystanders, and we’ve checked it for accuracy." -- relevant, and scary.

This week can just go ahead and end. I'm done! (I wish...one more day.)
Good article. I honestly had no idea GitHub was a proprietary service. Makes my choice of source repos MUCH easier...git.kenzoid.com is now on the task list. Why on earth would I stick proprietary centralized server on top of a distributed version control system?? I'll run my own, stick a copy in S3 or something as well, and maybe talk someone into holding a copy of my source, while I hold a copy of theirs!

Ken, because GitHub layers useful functionality on top of Git, it doesn't remove any, nor disturbs the distributed nature of the SCM. You can treat GitHub simply as a node of your distributed graph. GitHub also isn't completely closed source, things such as our service hooks, rubygem builder, and the Grit (Ruby Git) library that powers the entire site are all open source. At the end of...

Point taken, PJ. I added git to my revision control toolkit fairly recently (coming from cvs, svn, a short stop at arch, and mercurial (which I still use as well)); I haven't paid that close attention to GitHub other than to note it exists and gets a lot of buzz. I will dig in more deeply and review your offerings (I certainly grok the fact that it's only a node in the graph, but good...

Sweet Juicy Peaches, what a day. Someone flip the Turbo switch to off, please.
"I agree 100%, Felix. I putter about with EC2 a bit, and I really like it conceptually. But w/o having a reason to consider a $72/month option vs. my $20/month Linode hosting, I really haven't spent that much time with it. I use it for testing work stuff occasionally, as I can spin up a SQL Server instance and test things out w/o worrying about breaking anything. But otherwise, Linode (or Slicehost...whatever) definitely wins out. A "tiny" EC2 option would be great!"

Ah. list.extend(L), not list.append(x). That's my error. Another bug bites the dust...
FTA: "We must make Obama do the right things. Email, write, and phone the White House. Do the same with your members of Congress. Round up others to do so." -- I certainly fall in the cynic camp, but I do have a little bit of hope.

One positive thing in the past week...some time ago, I signed the Change-Congress.org "no contribution pledge"...no contributions to lawmakers who haven't supported the "Fair Elections Now Act." Change-Congress encourages you to forward a link to their page on the subject to campaigns that email you, which I did last week when Chris Dodd asked me for support. When Sen. Dodd's campaign...

Trying my first Kindle trial magazine subscription...'Foreign Affairs'. Nice!
Stock in Krugman up even more after listening to his debate w/ Taylor on CNN http://twurl.nl/lzktzc Well worth a listen for anyone interested in the direction of the economy. (PS. Started following you after that fab quote you left re: mobs )
- Meryl Steinberg
Wow...thanks! That book (Extraordinary Popular Delusions and the Madness of Crowds, for those not on the other thread) is a fantastic read, I highly recommend it. I have the Krugman-Taylor piece bookmarked to read (edit: er...watch). I REALLY need to start recording "Fareed Zakaria GPS"; every time I review anything on it, I'm struck by the great stories. I've heard/watched Zakaria a few times before, and it's always well worth it.

On a happier note, got to do some fun Dabble DB data wrangling tonight after a hectic day of...database wrangling. Hm. Maybe I should find other hobbies. Nah; I dig it.
