A text file or paper, whichever is handiest at the time. If it lives too long for the paper/text then it goes into a special TODO list Word doc (could use Google docs) that is nicely organized by project and range of due dates. I've yet to find something that works as well as that combo. Not all projects fit into the little molds provided in software systems, plus you have trouble taking the software with you. I used to take a full sheet of paper and put a day on every line w/ the agenda for that day. - xero
Remember The Milk. There are a million different ways to access your tasks no matter where you are. It does separate lists, tags, and priorities. You can add locations for specific tasks. It's just been the easiest way for me to stay on top of stuff. - ♫ Rahsheen™

“Why do we put up with parents who take absolutely no responsibility for raising their kids? Why do we allow parents to absolutely destroy the chances of their kids ever being successful in this society? How do you inject personal responsibility as a requirement into the system and not just an ideal”
October 11 at 8:03 pm - Link
to be used as a campaign slogan? - Alex Scoble CISSP
Because parenting is subjective - Lindsey
Totally ignoring your two kids while talking on your cell phone, letting the girl run a shopping cart into whatever and allowing the little boy (in pajamas no less) just sit there and scream at the top of his lungs, is a complete lack of parenting. That isn't subjective. - Alex Scoble CISSP
People are too polite to butt in on people's parenting (or lack of). - Rochelle
I would agree. But to them . . . I'm sure they would disagree. - Lindsey
Because the function required in creating a child has been so degraded by society as either an evil never to be discussed or something treated with reckless abandon that a disconnect has occurred between cause and effect. The ideas of parenting that has been glamorized by all sectors, glosses over the 'work' that is required... and some people are just fuckstains... - Johnny Worthington
" How do you inject personal responsibility as a requirement into the system and not just an ideal?” - guilt - MikeAmundsen
I hate bad parenting! - ♥Brandy Lea Photography♥
But Alex, kids need rich experiences, to be able to explore and imagine. Put boundaries on them too early and you'll stunt them for life ;-) - Logical Extremes
this post could be about wall street brokers - Gregory Lent
I'm sorry but the US is WAY too lax on children. To paraphrase Denis Leary, "my parents beat the shit out of me when I was a kid and I'm looking forward to beating the shit out of my kids". Children need discipline. End of story. Where I grew up, I never heard of kids shooting guns or getting shot. Having a death penalty for gun possession kind of puts a damper on that. - Leather Donut
Alex- you're completely right. My daughter was nearly beaten up by an older kid at the park and his mother could have intervened but she was too busy chatting about her nail polish on her cell. When I talked harshly to him, he seemed shocked- like nobody had ever told him what to do before. His mother never even looked up or over at us. Ridiculous. - Abby Martin
It's not that we wish to put up with it. We're just too polite to say anything. - Morton Fox
the problem is this: how would you propose to make sure parents CAN control their kids? we can't exactly make vasectomies mandatory - gov't would abuse it - Michael J. Cohen (mjc)
I get head shakes and dirty looks when I discipline my kids in public. By 'discipline', I mean "don't run around the sidewalk" or "sit up straight". Happened 3 times today. Told my son to stop standing in the middle of the staircase. Dirty looks. Assholes. - Anika Malone
This all started when people started getting in trouble for whoopin that ass in public, but seriously, your kids should have a certain amount of fear/respect for you as a parent. A lot of kids I see these days do not have this at all and it's only the "parents" fault. Once again, I point to the Dog Whisperer to illustrate the point further :) - ♫ Rahsheen™
Yup, MJC, that is the million dollar question. How do we compel parents to be responsible without resorting to Big Brother Government, which quite frankly doesn't do a good job of parenting kids in its care either? Perhaps we as a nation need to start getting more assertive "excuse me ma'am, but you need to take care of your kids, this is a public place." I should have tried that...but I'm a wuss. - Alex Scoble CISSP
Rah, agreed. Parents want to be friends with their kids, not act as a parent of the kid. - Rochelle
rah, we should make a baby. kids and dogs just want someone to be in charge. If you aren't, they will be. - Secret Squirrel
Agreed, a lack of parenting harms the kids forever, sort of dooms their future. Plus it's rude and annoying to the rest of us. - Mike Reynolds
It's a vicious cycle that I'm not sure can be corrected unless we stop letting bad parents have kids, which is damn near impossible. - ♫ Rahsheen™
Actually, if we could make our schools not suck so bad, that would be a step in the right direction. Seems like those same sucky parents are the ones teaching everyone else's kids too...lol - ♫ Rahsheen™
Unfortunately, the NUMBER ONE contributor to a child's success in school is...PARENT PARTICIPATION! - Alex Scoble CISSP
If people wanting to have children had to undergo the same process as people wanting to adopt, there would be a far fewer cruddy parents and fewer children too. - Kevin Devin
+10,000 Kevin - Alex Scoble CISSP
True, if the parents gave a rat's ass...the schools probably wouldn't be able to get away with sucking so horribly. - ♫ Rahsheen™
I hate bad parenting, too. I'm doing my part by not having children. Don't thank me; it's my civic duty. - MiɳiMagɘ (Sexy Scimitar)
This is one topic I'll be writing about in my blog. - Nick Humphries
This is something I'm passionate about. I see way too many parents who simply don't participate in the lives of their children, others who treat them like luggage and those that fail to understand that THEY are in charge of raising their children. Parenting seems to be looked upon as something to fit into a schedule and look out if it gets in the way of a social life! Grow up and take responsibility. If you don't want to be a parent, don't have the kids. If you do, shut up and *be a parent*. - AJ Kohn

I'm user # 919 on LiveJournal but technically I muxed accounts. I had a reverse chrono website going back to 97 or so. I had a WordPress blog with many years of content but whacked it due to apathy and boredom after the first punch of traffic. I'm taking Geritol too. - qthrul
I wish that I did. The remainder of it was lost on an old Colorado Tape Backup in the mid-90s. I also ran a FidoNet node BBS from about 87-92. We had some cool newsletters/publications/discussion threads going around back then with each other, but they were ASCII / ANSI not HTML so I don't think they count. (I mean, to be blogging, it has to be the web, right?) So that's why I meant it depends on how we're defining blogging. - Anthony Citrano
but the url of the mag (The Virtual Journal) was http://ixc.net/~threed.html - Anthony Citrano
Also someone at my school (University of Southern Maine) supposedly published the first Bitnet magazine as well but I need to dig up the details. - Anthony Citrano

Late '96 and they were called 'online journals' back then. I used a homegrown flat file setup and I got ruthlessly made fun of for it (for actually having an online journal; not the flat file setup). Now they're all on Livejournal. Suckas! - Akiva Moskovitz

Had a life story blog between in 04-06, hurt some people I cared about and subsequently purged the whole thing. Tech Blogging since March 2007 - Dan Kaplan
Active on Usenet in the late 1970's, I wrote one of the first Mac BBS systems (Mouse Exchange) in 1984, and then the first Mac Fidonet software (Tabby) in 1985 and got my picture in MacWorld), so I've been talking on some kind of public network forever! - Michael Connick via twhirl
I don't think that quite counts as blogging, though. However, I'm envious; I loved and miss the brief time I had on USENET before it was stormed and by the AOL 'me too' army. - Akiva Moskovitz
Akiva: it's unclear - which is why I asked "what do we mean by blogging". There's no doubt that the publications and conversations circulating on Usenet and Fidonet and the BBS world back in the day were online diaries / opinion journals / threaded discussions just like we have today with web logs. The strict definition, though, would be the web / HTML version of such things, which wasn't really around (for most of us) until the summer of '93. - Anthony Citrano
