"Living in Portland I have been watching Jones play for the Winterhawks all season. He is an absolute beast. His passing and vision is on a higher level than anyone in the WHL, it has been great to watch. I would be really excited by them drafting Jones."

"The inferiority of a women's league might have something to do with sexual objectification, I don't disagree. I am sure there are multiple reasons beyond just what I have pointed out. The quality of play and physical abilities of professional female athletes versus male athletes is statistically provable. When you want to watch something at it's highest level you are going compare it across the board. If you are a fan of fine art you aren't going to compare painter to painter no matter what gender, same with acting, and numerous other things. You want to compare things equally, unfortunately with women's sports the quality isn't on the same level. You can say you prefer to watch women's soccer over men's soccer, which is totally cool. Just like if you like college football over the NFL, it is your preference to watch it. But most people would prefer to watch a sport they enjoy on it's highest level, which the product that women's sports league provide isn't at when considering leagues..."

"How is it not? If it wasn't you wouldn't have failed leagues and historically crappy attendance. If it were worth watching there would be an audience."

"It would be. And I would hope that we could but the fact of the matter is female leagues don't have a high success rate and trying to market them sometimes is difficult."

"I know I am going to get down voted into oblivion because of this but... "Instead of drawing attention to their power, skill or athleticism, promoters rely on sexually objectifying female athletes." Because it is an inferior product they have to rely on the sexual objectification or even the sexuality of the female athletes. Women's professional sports, unfortunately, are a massive loser in the sports market place. You have had one women's basketball league fold, the other is totally and utterly a money loser that is propped up by the NBA as a vanity project. The markets the WNBA appeals is young girls and lesbians, the product is marketed as such. The game is lower scoring and the quality of play just isn't as good as watching men's basketball. (I would argue though that women are much more fundamentally sound, but I don't want to watch basketball played in the style of the 1950s.) With women's soccer you already have a sport that generally in the for many years has had trouble..."

kevinpalmer on Where do you guys stand on this whole Buffalo News vs. Pegula thing? - http://www.reddit.com/r...
"I don't know if I would say that it isn't common. There are tons of examples of owners that talk directly to the press in a lot of sports especially the NFL and NBA. Also I think Pegula's first press conference set some sort of standard. I'm not saying that the Buffalo News in is the right. I just think saying that it is unprofessional or that is not common and trying to deal in absolutes with this isn't correct. I think there are shreds of truth to what both camps say."

"I don't know if you can call it unprofessional when they get stonewalled when they want an interview. There was no end of season press conference last year after a disappointing season and then he hasn't said anything to the press this year. He was at a public event that they no doubt wanted covered. I think it is fair."

"That is a good question, I wonder if there limits on what the other cities gave up? As far as profitability, there has been some interesting stuff written (I think in Wired) that this is more of a vanity/pr project than anything and people should not get their hopes up for expansion because of the costs involved. I'd be happy if just the great of it spurred competition."

"If you read the articles about how Kansas City landed it basically it was the government bending over backwards to make the conditions favorable for Google. I'm not saying I agree with it or say that should be the path but that is what happened."

"Don't use OKCupid, that's the first thing. If you want to use an online dating site use Match.com, the reason behind that is that OkCupid is free, match.com is not. There is a certain level of commitment you have to dating if you are paying for the dating site."

"I am torn by this as well. I don't think with the young guys if we sneak into the playoffs (I'm not saying the odds are good) that getting a playoff series in isn't the worst thing in the world for their experience and growth. But at the same time if we are going to rebuild bottoming out would be helpful."

"I guess it depends if they are blowing things up or if they are choosing the two they want to sign and one they don't think they will be able to. If they are completely blowing it up I would be fine with any/all of the three going. Augmenting what we currently has just hasn't been working and it is probably time they gut the team and move forward. These are three of your best pieces and if they feel like they are going to walk at the end of next season they might as well get what they can."
