http://bluefive.pair.com/alarm... - alarm clock, just download it. You can use your favourite song as alarm sound)), and you don't need internet conection, just your PC is being worked all the time.
- obolonskyi
Misha, did you just said the word "download"???
- Orli Yakuel
What's this download thing you're talking about?
- Amit Morson
Nice programming exercise but you really don't want to count on this to wake you up. So many things can fail - your connection, your ISP, even your OS ... Nice for quick reminders to turn off the oven or something.
- Yuval Atzmon
atzmon, you can always use something for back up (or use this as back up to alarm clock, mobile, etc.,).
- Orli Yakuel
Well, if I use another (more reliable) device then this web app is redundant. Nicely done though.
- Yuval Atzmon
Brilliant. During exam time I set up as many alarm clocks as I can. Gnome Alarm, Amarok, my iPhone, physical alarm clock, and now... kukuclock. When 4 months of grueling work comes down to waking up at 7:20 am... the more clocks the better :)
- Derick Valadao
cool and simple. But does it work when the internet connection failed over night? Should be no problem. I think these widgets has no permanent connection to the outside?!
- Ryo / Fuck Facebook
I've used this a few times as a quick egg timer
- Jason Cazier
This might come in mighty handy at work...
- Mark Edwards
Yeah, just turn it off. You'll be sealing yourself into a nice tight box, though :)
- Rahsheen ™, Coach of FF
I love that feature. But, yes, you can turn it off.
- Yolanda
you can also turn it off (well, hide at least) on a case by case basis. That way you get to judge each one of your friend's friends. - Judgy McJudgerson.
- Laura Norvig
By default I've disabled friend of friend & last.fm, that keeps things manageable
- Steven Cains
And I just love to get the info from FoF (= friends of friends). It's taking me to news I otherwise wouldn't pay attention to, wouldn't notice either. Besides that: it's probably worth looking at, because otherwise friends wouldn't 'like' it or comment on it. It's a great invention of FF.
- Ton Zijp
thanks, will turn it off to see if I miss it
- Loic Le Meur
Interesting that the people who say this usually are treating FriendFeed as a way to get messages out, but aren't participating in FriendFeed as much. I understand that in Loic's position, since he is CEO of Seesmic and probably wants to spend most of his participation time over on Seesmic instead of over here. To turn this feature off, just use the "Hide" feature. I personally LOVE finding new friends through this feature, though. Please keep liking your friends who you want me to see!
- Robert Scoble
FoF and the general feed overflow with time get kicked with the selective attention bias. In cognitive terms, it's the same when you're in a cocktail party and block all the other noises to listen to the interesting talk in your group. With time, we'll get used to FoF and learn to block what doesn't matter.
- Armando Alves
Who is Loic Le Meur, and why is Scoble sending me messages from him?
- Morgan Warstler
Robert, you know how much I love discovering new friends, please note I still have the autofollow on my twitter ON so I follow 10000+ people there... I am very active on Friendfeed this is why I am trying not to follow that many people here. To discover new content I use more Twitter, to get the content that is super important to me I use more FF. Two different choices. I am experimenting, this is clearly not perfect.
- Loic Le Meur
Morgan: funny. Loic Le Meur is CEO of Seesmic.
- Robert Scoble
Who is that Robert Scoble I keep getting noise from in my Friendfeed? :P
- Loic Le Meur
You can say that agin. I really don't like that little feature. Have I missed where to turn that off?
- Niklas Pivic
from twhirl
Niklas: yes, you click "Hide" and then click it again to get all the options. Turn off Friend-of-a-Friend.
- Robert Scoble
@Loic : 1 solution find 1 friend which have a maximum of friends in common with you and only subscribe to this one. Or head to http://ffapps.com/ and install the Greasmonkey script Friends & Group which allows you to define...well...groups of friends which will be displayed as tabs (et désolé si l'anglais est pas parfait)
- Olivier
@scobleizer: thanks, and thanks to @louisgray for the link on how to specifically do it!
- Niklas Pivic
from twhirl
sort of ironic, coming from a friend-of-a-friend, but I have to say: Amen.
- Josh McHugh
I love the feature. I find so many interesting people this way.
- Jonathan.Rivera
Not really that surprising, truthfully. Of course, as an old Gentoo guy, I'm used to being off the radar. ;)
- Alexander Williams
Actually, I'm optimistic about Fedora's future. It has a lot of things to work on, but as my avatar says, I'm a big Fedora fan. :D
- Rishabh Mishra (p248)
Oh yes! Your avatar! :) And btw Fedora started almost everything Ubuntu ships --troll ends here ;-)

I am a Debian guy. I don't really believe that any of those distributions are "dying"*, just that Ubuntu is the best pitched. If any of those dye, it will be slackware.
- Marcos Marado
Marcos: Don't tell that to my Slackware friend. :D Actually, as soon as I posted that, I saw that the word "dying" really doesn't describe it. So what if newbie users aren't into Debian? It doesn't mean that they won't try Debian after having become experienced with Ubuntu. I even pressed the "stop" button in Firefox, but the post was published to the world...
- Rishabh Mishra (p248)
Debian may be dying as a standalone distro, but many major distros, including Ubuntu, are based on Debian.
- Michael
I'm sort of missing Gentoo linux, but I suppose that never was as main stream as I thought it was. ;) But yeah, slack is largely being "replaced" by distros that take its core foundation, and make it both more modern and more up to date (Arch Linux is one example). Debian has its fair share of children too. (Ubuntu being the most obvious one) I don't see them dying as much as I see them letting "their young go into the world". =)
- Daniel Bruce
regarding debian, I have to say that not only debian derivatives benefict from debian, but debian beneficts from them (some more than others). Then, you have those derivative users that end up realizing that Debian is better O:-)
- Marcos Marado
Man, I've seen so many posts being triggered by google trends, lately.
- David Risley
I actually had this idea many weeks earlier, but I only got the impulse to write my own once everybody else had used up the idea. :D
- Rishabh Mishra (p248)
well, one thing that came into my mind when reading your blog post was exactly: "why google trends? why not distrowatch?"
- Marcos Marado
reminds that it is 17 years since I tried linux the first time (dont remember if it was 0.01, 0.02 or 0.03 though) :)
- Amund Tveit
I actually kind of like Debian for a server distro. Hope it stays around.
- Eric Florenzano
The fact that I made it onto Linux Today is more of a curse than a blessing. :D
- Rishabh Mishra (p248)
Linux Today would explain the steady stream of referrals from your story to mine. I was sure it hit Slashdot or something...
- Louis Gray
Linux ain't die. Specially Ubuntu. But other distros as well, ain't die.
- Apostolos Papadopoulos
Interesting article and comments no matter how reliable the conclusion is. I went over to Google Trends to input these and other distros. All sorts of conclusions can be drawn from the info. However, one thing I found interesting is the listing of Regions making the inquiries. The United States was not high on any of the lists and often not even in the top ten. Quite often the regions...
