Went to a memorial service today. Came home with a coffin. It's a bit of a long story.
All the best memorial services give them as favors right? - Rachel Lea Fox
We have time, Kevin. - Anne Bouey
Okay, here's the story: Rachel and I are active members of NorCal CalHauntS, a group of folks who do haunted yards and houses at Halloween. One of our most well-respected members, Rik (aka "Perfessor Evil") passed away unexpectedly last month. Yesterday instead of our monthly 'make-and-take' workshop we all convened at his house with his family, remembered the man and his passion, and helped his family by raffling off his large collection of hand-made props and other halloween paraphernalia to the group members. - Kevin Fox
There were about 60 of us there but I was lucky enough to have the second ticket called and so I got to claim the 'monster-in-a-box' coffin, a full-sized hand-built pine coffin with a pneumatic knocker and chains. I was planning on building one out for our haunt later this year anyhow, but now I can put more resources into the higher tech areas instead. So yeah. Went to a memorial. Came back with a coffin. I love the Bay Area. - Kevin Fox
I remember Rachel mentioning his passing. It sounds like it was a nice gathering for his friends and family and wonderful that his prized haunt possessions went home with his friends. - Anne Bouey
pneumatic knocker Don't those come in pairs? - Greg GuitarBuster
We also helped the family by clearing out all the bad wood, broken props and other such stuff that needed to be cleared out of the back sheds before the house could be sold. Let me tell you hauling wood (and such) in 87 degree weather is yucky!! But worth doing. :) The Haunt group is a good group of people who are very supportive of each other! - Rachel Lea Fox
Greg, you can buy pneumatic cylinders separately. :) - Rachel Lea Fox
