"The Wi-Fi Alliance has a timetable for eliminating outdated WEP and TKIP security from certified Wi-Fi devices: A couple of news sites ran unsourced stories yesterday and today about a roadmap from the Wi-Fi Alliance for eliminating older encryption methods from the certification process for new hardware. I picked up the phone (yes, crazy, I know!), and confirmed it: TKIP and WEP won't be allowed in new devices with the Wi-Fi stamp in a staged elimination over three years starting in 2011." - LANjackal from Bookmarklet
Doing away with WEP is a no-brainer, but what will replace TKIP? Most router users don't understand how they work now. Will they be expected to set up a RADIUS server on their home network? - Jack&Cleo
TKIP has been superseded by WPA2, which has a large installed base (even if it's not being used). I use it on my end - LANjackal
As do I. But I wonder, if the setup for wireless security gets too complicated, a large number of users won't just avoid security altogether, leaving a fertile field for botnets. - Jack&Cleo
WPA2's setup isn't any more difficult than WEP or TKIP's ... the underlying security is just a lot better :) - LANjackal from IM
Having served a term on D-Link's help desk I contend that anything more than WEP is too difficult to deal with for a large number of home router users. Router manufacturers would be wise to keep the setup routine as simple as possible with WPA2 the default minimum security setting and very clear instructions on what parameters to change and how to do that. - Jack&Cleo
Are you sure the difficulty is the result of WPA2, or due to the current existence of multiple choices between WEP, TKIP and WPA2? It's quite possible that the confusion will be alleviated when WPA2 is the only option*. AFAIK, WPA2 only requires entering and saving a password on the router side and then entering the same password on the client side, and some routers support USB key autoconfiguration. *at which point WPA2 will probably have been broken - LANjackal from IM
The most common problem was trying to come up with a 10-digit key people would remember. I would tell them to use an old but memorable phone number, area code included. Even then there were those who couldn't manage it. - Jack&Cleo
Ooooooh, *that*. LOL yeah that makes sense. My key is a visual pattern on a QWERTY keyboard. It would be impossible to recall otherwise, TBH - LANjackal from IM
Heh, I just checked my own router running dd-wrt and noticed that TKIP, along with AES, are the only two WPA2 algorithms offered. I'm using TKIP+AES, but I guess that will have to change if the new standards drop TKIP. - Jack&Cleo

It's Official: Apple Is Now Worth More Than Microsoft* - http://www.businessinsider.com/apple-w...
"Apple's stock market capitalization (AAPL) has not yet quite surpassed Microsoft's (MSFT), but the value of its actual business is now higher. Specifically, Apple's business is now worth $200 billion, while Microsoft's is only worth $197 billion--at least by one simple calculation of enterprise value.*" - imabonehead from Bookmarklet

calling Mac/iPhone users of Gmail... do you sync your Mac with your Google account and then use the native mail and address book apps on your Mac and iPhone, or do you find the web interface to be sufficient?
I ask because I'm soon able to qualify for a free upgrade to an iPhone from my carrier, but the gadget fan in me is torn between iPhone and Android. I pretty much live in Gmail and Google Calendar and so won't have any problems with an Android device, but as a Mac user, the iPhone keeps batting her eyelashes at me and flashing her apps... - Andrew Terry
Olivier - The "numbers of new messages won't update in each folder" is a global issue with the iPhone/iPod Touch. It's not just relegated to Gmail accounts. For some reason, the iPhone only uses push for the inbox; it won't download anything inside of other folders until you open the folder. - Curdy G
I use the native mail app and sync like Oliver does. I only care about my Inbox automatically updating so the multiple folders issue is not an issue to me. - Matt Hilton
Yeah. Google Mobile Sync for iPhone us pretty slick. Aside from not supporting more than one group of contacts. The good thing is that you can still search The server for any other contacts that are in other groups and not synced. - Roberto Bonini from iPhone
The WHS iPhone app is also pretty slick Andrew. - Roberto Bonini from iPhone

I use gmail on the iphone and the webinterface at work because pop and imap are blocked so that i can't use native mail at work. - Lode Nachtergaele
Hehe. I was really wondering about your sanity there Andrew.... :) - Roberto Bonini
Search only on the webapp. It's still too slow for composing and browsing, and push is a must. Sometime, the whole page refresh as I switch from another tab, thus wasting time and getting annoyed - an unencountered feeling on the iPhone app. Meanwhile 95% of my iPhone time is spent on the mobile browser: FF, Reader, gNews FTW. - Jérôme from iPhone
I use neither exclusively, but I more frequently use the built in mail app because it is quicker and easier to use. When it fails or if I want to search or do anything non-basic, I use the web. Also, occasionally, either the web or imap fails. When that happens, the other is almost always available. - Chris Rogers from iPhone
I use both interfaces. I prefer to use Mail, Address Book and iCal on the Mac but I use the web interface when I am work (using Windows).

Sadece feedindeki felsefe ve apple i apple yapan düşünce tarzı artık ürünlerine yansımıyor. - güney

Apple Reportedly Acquired Lala for $80 Million
"This certainly paints a picture of a future version of iTunes that supports streaming music." - Murat ÖZORAL from Bookmarklet
Perhaps Apple will use Lala to drive traffic to the iTunes store. Imagine discovering a song on Lala, paying 10c to listen to it, then later paying the full price on Lala.com. You go home and fire up iTunes and the song downloads to your computer. Or buying a song on iTunes and have it added to your Lala.com library. With a Lala iPhone app you could possibly stream your entire iTunes collection to your device. - Khürt Williams
