I like the idea of this... expertise in a job would take 4.8 years. That probably explains the 5-year-itch, etc. But it doesn't really explain the burnout: why would you spend 10,000 hours at something to be an "expert" and not leverage your expertise? I suppose the best explanation is that human beings are flawed (or at least irrational). - Kenny Stoltz
How do you move past partisan politics when the major organizing elements of the parties behave this way? Damage? Firestorms? Firewalls? War? Threats? I thought this was democracy. And American. And the will of the people.
Can a nation survive when politically-minded organizations use the language of war and terror when speaking about their fellow neighbors and citizens? - Kenny Stoltz
This really sucks. Not the site, it's awesome. What sucks is that I have been sitting on this idea for about 3 years. I lecture people about the perceived value of an idea all the time. For example, this idea is clearly a reasonable idea for a business, and thus most people would keep it completely secret. Well, great minds think alike, and this guy had the same idea and built a business. I could claim that I had the idea first and that it's worth however much this business ends up being worth... but frankly that's stupid. Ideas are valueless. Thoughts are valueless. Execution where the value is created. I don't agree with a lot of their approach because I don't like wikitravel and wikipedia... but hey it's free. I also think the real money isn't in a city guide but in a custom book. Anyway good luck for them and if they make a great product and succeed at least I'll know that I was right about the idea. As for acting on it, I'll feel stupid for not having done anything whether it... - Kenny Stoltz
This explains the sudden drop in value of Swiss franc. 140 billion CHF has left the country already... wow. That explains why I got a good deal on my bank account. - Kenny Stoltz
