I think I'm in love. The Olympus EP-1 is almost erotically beautiful. I can't stop handling it. Can't wait to get the 50/1.4 on it. Too bad nothing reads the raw files yet.

I understand that, using LR myself! :-) I'm just suggesting that you could still shoot RAW and let the bundled app take care of the conversion to JPEG until Adobe/Apple are ready. Then you still have the RAW files to play with, not just JPEGs that came from the camera.

Leo, there is an accessory VIEWfinder that attaches to the hotshoe. Not the same as a rangefinder but I wouldn't trade the EP-1's physical size for the optics necessary for a rangefinder. Very lustworthy bit of kit!

It's definitely pretty sweet hardware. Rumor going around that 2nd version will be out end of year with a VF. Seems rather quick to me but possibly something to wait for. The current VF that attaches to the hotshoe is only accurate with their 17mm f/2.8 lens btw.

I may pull the trigger on an EP-1, but I am hearing horror stories about the slow auto focus. Are you finding this a problem? Should I wait till version 2?

First I have to get an alternate to see Leo, then my satellite dish goes out due to weather; one of those days, I guess. Leo's show probably got popular fast due to the twitter, facebook outages. The cruise no, but it wouldn't surprise me if he had to pay for the pre-cruise tour of China as In-Sight Cruises were really just acting as a middle-man to Imperial Tours. And I doubt that there is enough "fat" in In Sight's mark-up to cover Leo's China tour from the dozen people who toured with him. And I doubt Imperial would comp the tour as that agreement would have required some significant advertising on Leo's part and this is the first time I've heard the name Imperial Tours.

friendfeed is where I find great stories, links and conversations. Facebook is where the girls I knew in highschool talk about their sick kids. So, yeah, not really thrilled with this move, BUT it will either work or all the friendfeed users will just find another service that better meets their needs (and isn't inside a walled garden). Friendfeed users are much more likely to just leave if the service doesn't do what they want.

i like that friend feed was more artistic, intelligent and not too main stream. If they keep the two independent, fine. If all things Friend Feed are linked to or integrated into Facebook, and I have to hang out with all those Facebook drones............well, we'll see. Also as some one who moved to Friend Feed to escape all the celebrity giberish and nonsensicle self promotion, I really hope that FB serves as a parent company and does not try to integrate them too closely

Okay, okay, Leo. Be the voice of positivity. Someone should, anyway. But here's my 2 cents. I spend most of my time daily on Friendfeed. Facebook is only a small portion of what I share here. Most people fear of course that FB will absorb FF and make it more of what they are providing, rather than what we are already getting from FF. I hope you're right, as does everyone. But based on what FB has shown me, I, like the others, have little hope of this.

It's the house value that went down...not the home value. The value of the housing market isn't of much consequence until you trade down or sell up entirely. The assessors value will go up again soon enough. In the mean time enjoy the extra cash. It's still the same home with the same family in it.

That's only relevant if you bought it at a price between the higher appraisal amount and the currently lowered value or (big OR) if you refinanced or took out a second mortgage and the total mortgaged value is at anything above the currently lower value. But if you bought the home at a price lower than the new value and haven't refinanced then you're fine, you never really had the value...

It would confuse the Chinese gov't to have to monitor their people on another site... in other words, MySpace is "owned" by the state and doesn't want to duplicate their spying efforts. China and America are so very different Michel. If the US government blocked Facebook, people would be on the streets, politicians would lose their jobs. In China, these things are not allowed to happen. The history of China is arguably more culturally interesting than America's, but I promise you, life in America is so much better.

I saw Guy Kawasaki deliver a user group presentation in Lexington, KY circa 1993 using 35mm slides. Someone asked why he wasn't using a laptop and I've always remembered his reply: "I don't rely on technology to get my message across. I bring overhead transparencies, slides, and my laptop, but I could do this with no visuals at all at the drop of a hat." I've always admired the sentiment, but never been able to live up the idea.

Fleagle, I don't think Leo was using PowerPoint for his presentation, it was some other tool that he was trying out. I can't recall the name. It has a virtual workspace in it which you can place content on it that you can zoom in and out of. I think he was intentionally trying a different approach.

yup .... China is choking on its own success. Tianjin is bad, Guangzhou is worse. Some days you can't see across Hong Kong harbor. They are poisoning their own people.

Last time I was in Hong Kong, fairly lengthy stopover, I stayed on Lantau island where the airport is. Did the touristy bit to the monastery and the Big Buddah. The air is cleaner there than in the city. I spent 3 days in city once and couldn't wait to get the hell out of there.

Gilbert, that's is strange. But Chek Lap Kok, the island where the airport is, and Tung Chung are the two most polluted districts in Hong Kong.

Chek Lap Kok maybe, it's just the airport and although only a stones throw, well OK a very short bridge, away from Lantau, the difference is amazing. I found Lantau very pleasant compared to Kowloon and Hong Kong, which seem to be permanently smog bound.

One of the reasons goods made in China are so cheap, is the total disregard for the environment. Chinese companies don't have to pay the 'green tax' that western companies have to pay.
