I have GV Mobile - tonight I was using the Google Voice web version on my iPhone and it was actually faster and better than GV Mobile anyway. It even showed me calls that GV Mobile left out. It is very troubling, however, how Apple pulls apps for their own benefit, as this hurts developers and users.

joey - when I tap any existing app on my phone, it takes several seconds to open...much longer than usual. When I open certain apps (Twitterfon and Gmail, for instance) it crashes, everything goes black for a few seconds, then it returns to the unlock screen.

Mona: Part of that "experience" is this push workaround for not being able to have an IM app running in the background.

Chris, work around or not, it basically does the same thing. Though I'm not too worried about it, since my dependence for IM has ceased since purchasing the iPhone. Now people know to FB message, email, or SMS instead of IM when they really need to get a hold of me. Works for me.

But it doesn't do the same thing. You have to quit whatever app you're in to launch the app for which you're receiving a notification. You ought to be able to pause your video, switch to your IM to tell them "shh" while you finish what you're doing, then switch back and resume your streaming video.

Cut and paste is a big win for me, badly needed it for work on the road, Spotlight is brilliant for finding contacts but Push? What is this push thing? Hardly ever use SMS or IM; they can wait until convenient.

Mona, if you mean certains apps. then yes. the developer of the app has to enable cut/copy/paste in their apps. as for websites, i'm not too sure what the safari likes and doesn't like for copy/paste yet.

Ah but I want to copy and paste text into a client report while on the road for example, or add quotes to a blog post without have to retype the thing. Or copy/paste text from an article into my Delicious bookmarks to make it easy to remember what the article was about while scanning tagged science articles. I use my iPhone as a business tool to avoid lugging a laptop everywhere.

yes absolutely. i am still using the original iPhone, which I have to say still works great for being two years old. I didn't see that much of an advantage to upgrading when the first 3G came out, but now there seems to be enough new features that it makes it worth it.

@Jandy AT&T's upgrade policy is no different than any other cell carrier's policy, in making you wait 2 years before upgrading for a greatly reduced price. I am excited that they're subsidizing at all actually; when I bought my original iPhone there wasn't any subsidizing and I paid full-price *and* was locked into a 2-year contract. If you ask me, their policy now is a lot better than it was then.

Tyler - you are just flat out wrong. A jailbroken iPhone won't have: autofocus camera (of higher quality), builtin compass, be ready for next gen data networks (up to 7mps), have a faster processor & better battery. I'm upgrading from a 1st gen so the diff is big if I had a 3G it might be closer

@Jennifer, I know, and I agree that the initial iPhone customers got screwed, too. But just because it's an industry standard doesn't mean I have to agree with it or like it. I haven't jailbroken because I was hoping to get a new handset with video support, but I may jailbreak instead in the meantime and pick up the new handset when my contract is up.

No - bad working out by o2 with regard to current 3g owners and the length of their contracts. I'm guessing they know hardcore Apple fans will buy out the remainder of their contract to get the new phone. That, I'm not going to do. I don't have £464 upfront to end my current contract and purchase the new handset.

Unfortunately, I just bought two iPhone 3Gs....so I'm going to wait a while. It seems every time I purchase an Apple product, they drop the price soon thereafter. Which is okay -- since I'm willing to overpay for Apple products but not pay discount for anything Microsoft at this point.

I was a Palm user back in the black and white days of the Handspring Visor. I've also used the Palm VII (briefly), and the Treo 600. Oh yeah, and the Tungsten E, and also a Dell Axim (obviously not Palm but MS mobile). I liked Palm OS for a long time, but the Treo made me switch to a to a Blackberry 7800 (loved it). I now use a Tmobile G1. It would take some time for me to warm back up to Palm. Interested in how the Pre works out.

Starbucks lost me last year when they killed their decaf offerings. Pike Place decaf is awful, and they no longer offer decaf frappaccinos. I was spending $50/month at Starbucks, now it's zero.

People like to harp on "$5", but that's really an exaggeration. $5 is not just for a simple cup of coffee. Let's compare apples to apples. I'm not at SBUX right now, but if memory serves, a tall coffee at SBUX costs just north of $1. That's pretty much what you'd get at most coffee places or diners. It might be a tad more expensive, but if you don't want to pay $5 don't get a triple-shot, mocha venti blah blah blah...

@Kol If you just wanna dump stuff and forget it, I'd recommend Drop.io or Filedropper. If you're looking for syncing, Dropbox is the leader by far in terms of platform support. HOWEVER, Zumo could kill Dropbox overnight if it supports direct linking, which Dropbox does many file storage sites don't.

ZumoDrive is very similar to JungleDisk (paired with Amazon S3 or Rackspace.com). .. I think I'll stick with JungleDisk for now.

It is similar to JungleDisk, but I like the mobile client. I store my music on my ZumoDrive and stream it to my iPhone. Helps me get around the 8GB local storage limit. ;)

I'm currently using ZumoDrive for my Aperture library (about 30G) and parts of my music library (about 20G). The only annoyance is an occasional slowness when opening an image that's not in the local cache; there's sometimes a delay. (n.b. only part of my music library has been uploaded because I am severely constrained on upload bandwidth.)

I'm using DropBox & Livemesh (have some MS addict around me) but i like the Zumo approach of using the cloud as extra storage and not only synced miror, i think that none of the others offer it right now - it's still not there (seamless "cloud") . wish i had the time and funds to execute an idea that will get further into "seamless cloud"
