"Oh, I'm just sobbing for you. I find that losing pets is often harder than losing a close person who isn't in your life every day. The emptiness is bigger somehow. Tim and I used to grieve our losses in very different ways. I can't stand the emptiness and I need to redirect my love. I look for some new deserving dog or cat (and which one isn't deserving) - but never to replace the beloved pet I lost. That can never happen. It's more of a "I'll heal another animal which will then heal me" approach. So far, it's worked best. Adding laughter back into your life is not a betrayal of your lost love, by any means. It's paying that love forward, in my mind. Tim used to feel the opposite, that it was a betrayal to move on. I think he's come around to my perspective, laughing and loving again in record time because you just can't help yourself when that new sweet face wants a piece of your heart so desperately.
