Quit tryin' out the merchandise, Scoble. :) - Mike Kogelman via IM
He, Win Wong, spends $800 a month on Google ads and says that eBay has been sucking for him lately (which matches what my ex wife has been telling me, she's an eBay power seller and she says that eBay really screwed up and is pissing off sellers big time). - Robert Scoble
It's good to be the Scoble :P - Johnny Worthington
Mike: we have a rule, what happens in Guangzhou doesn't go on Valleywag. Oh, wait, Valleywag isn't in business anymore. Hmm. - Robert Scoble
He took us to the best Chinese restaurant I've ever been to. Let me upload my photos and we'll talk more about that. - Robert Scoble
Now, about these photos, Robert. If they involve you and lingerie in the modelling sense I would like to know now. I'm running low on eye bleach and I need to know whether to pick some more up on the way home from the school run. - WorldofHiglet
Some of those panty models could use a wax... http://www.4slingerie.com/prod... Just sayin'. - Brad Fitzpatrick
WorldofHiglet: no, we didn't touch any lingerie tonight. So your eyes are safe. For now. :-) - Robert Scoble
How was the Koreoke? - Jason Kintzler
OMG this one's too easy... - john conroy
Jason: we haven't done that yet. It's called KTV here. - Robert Scoble

Right On Louis .. ROFL :) - Steven Hodson
Where does one get Crystal Method (visualizer not the drug) =) - Jauder Ho
Jauder - I believe the visualizer Louis is using is the one integrated in to iTunes. And he has the band The Crystal Method playing to drive the visuals. - Phil Glockner
Not to freak you out Louis, but i hope that this won't hurt her young eyes and brain. These visualisations are very inadvisable for people with epilepsy. I'm not really an expert in these biological stuff, in fact, I'm just a computer scientist. But preventing is better than healing like french people say. I HOPE that I'm wrong anyway :) - directeur
I'm not seeing this cool visualization in my iTunes. Mine looks like outer space unless I use the classic, which is a bunch of wavy lines. Do I have to get on my MacBook? - MiɳiMagɘ (Sexy Scimitar)
That's pretty much what I look like when I'm watching Hulu.com - Andrew Warner
@Jauder: Heh, technically the name is The Crystal Method. ;) (And the drug is crystal meth.) - Tanath
I've sat my nieces on my lap and plays Crystal Method's Born to Slow while watching the visualizer. They dug it - RAPatton
I really, really, really hope that I'm wrong in thinking that this may hurt little eyes and brains. I won't let my nieces watch these stuff for a long time. - directeur
I haven't read up on it, but I'm not sure why there would be any danger to the eyes and brains of young people who don't have epilepsy or seizures for some other reason. - MiɳiMagɘ (Sexy Scimitar)
directeur, I think there's also a difference between a one time, 5 minute watching versus watching it for hours at a time, all the time. - Rochelle
Minimage: Oh, well, I'm saying it myself, I'm the last one to ask when it comes to anatomy, biologic thingies and you know these kind of stuff. I'm just a little bit worried about eventual effects on fresh and young brains :) Rochelle, Oh sure! :) - directeur
directeur, thanks for the concern. We are not planning to have the kids watch TV before 2, and Sarah's exposure to this was quite limited. We're having a great time raising them in public. - Louis Gray
Louis, and we love your babies as it they were our nephews :) Been watching them grow, smile, sleep and do many things and I hope that we'll see them go to school, get married... :) - directeur
Oy. Figured it out. It's Jelly under iTunes visualization. I never watched much TV as a kid so am happily free of TV addiction. I only just got cable a month ago for the gf. =) - Jauder Ho

haha! My middle and youngest kids loved it when I played Paul van Dyk and turned on iTunes Visualizer. Always did the trick to get them to fall asleep when fussy. :-) And my wife wonders why they both love it when I play Chemical Brothers or New Order! - JA Castillo
She will be assimilated. - Josh Haley
yep, we think alike. I actually set up an old Tangerine iMac in my son's room initially as a sort of fancy schmancy night light/music box w/the whole idea being that I'd play iTunes w/the visualizer to help him fall asleep w/the ambient light it would put out on the ceiling and walls. Several times I've shown him the iTunes visualizer when he was younger and cranky and it always instantly calmed him down. Hey, Geeky Parents Unite!!! - TheMacMommy
oh, and another thing that is super cool...the Finding Nemo DVD has aquarium "screensavers" you can play. (they just loop) There are different ones to choose from on each of the discs that come in the case. They have soft, soothing noises and calming visuals w/warm lights. It has really helped our son to fall asleep on a couple of occasions! I bet yours would love the calming & bright colors. Try it out :) - TheMacMommy
Oh man I'm a big crystal method fan but you're going to make them grow up agro --or desensitized - Jeremiah Owyang
I agree that five minutes is about the longest I would let kids under two watch something like that. Their brains need to learn to develop depth perception and flat screens don't help that. I can't remember where I was reading that years ago native americans who had grown up mostly outdoors had incredible depth perception such that they could look at landscape features very far away and know how large and deep rocks and mountain faces, etc. were, whereas if we looked at that today we have no clue. - LauraBrarian

I have used YouMail for about 2 months now and I really love it. They have an ad supported business model -- ads on the site and a one line ad at the bottom of each text message. The smart greeting blows people away, when they hear the service call them by name. - Anthony K. Valley ©

How should Newspapers use Twitter? | NewAssignment.Net
October 25 at 5:31 pm - via Bookmarklet - Link
"Rules, standard practices and policies are all null and void when confronted with communicating the news on a new medium. Such is the case with twitter, the web application that allows users to send 140-character messages from virtually any location with at least a cell phone signal. News organizations usually try one method for using twitter and it then becomes the standard. While some blast the news just like an RSS feed, others are talking back to their followers/readers. “I really like the ones on twitter that participate in discussion,” says Gerard Barberi a social researcher who is active in many online communities. “Right now, only Chicago papers seem to be doing that.”" - Igor The Troll via Bookmarklet
I think the comment/live discussion utilization of twitter for newspaper is critical. Also, forming communities within the newspaper. Ex. People might follow "@business" articles, but maybe not "@sports" etc., Make them see the need/difference. - Jason Kintzler

"Hi Joe, Thanks for the post, it's certainly a heated topic, especially for me! I agree that currently, wide distribution is standard, but that's changing. Think of it this way - news distribution has already changed. Do you think PR dist. won't soon follow? With the rise of social media applications, sharing PR content becomes much easier. As I said in today's blog post (http://bit.ly/41PlE8), PR cannot become a systematic function of keywords + distribution numbers = success. Sustainability of good PR will remain to be about relationships, and those are built on trust and ethics, not equations. That's what PitchEngine is all about." - Jason Kintzler

If you use it incorrectly, or you don't pay attention to how you're using it (which many probably are), then yes, this might be true. But if you continue to value the people around you and human interaction, then this isn't true. Just my two cents. - Kate Brodock via twhirl
Not having a social life is what got me into computers in the first place... - Jason R. Hunter
Internet communities are a social life (as was "pen pals" in a previous age). Does it really matter if you meet people "in person"? If so, perhaps we'll have more FriendFeed gatherings in the future. FlyerTalk.com people regularly have "DO"s around the world. ~200 of my Facebook friends are dance/Burning-Man friends who dance/party every week. - Mitchell Tsai
Having a social life never did anything good for me. I like my online peeps much better. - Bec Rowe
If I didn't have an online life I wouldn't have a life offline. All the people I know and like I've met online. My friend/coworker only lives in MD because she met her boyfriend online. I met the partner-in-crime online. I found a dog breeder online... - Nine
Wait, so we're not being social right now? - Mona N.
Yes. This is antisocial media. Now git offa mah lawn. - Nine
Mona apparently not?! huh?! :*) - Susan Beebe
I've been online for so long, I can actually tell how a person is in real life by the way the conduct themselves online. And truth be told, I prefer my online friends since it's a collective folks with similar interests. - Mona N.
It can still be a real surprise meeting an on-line friend for the first time. Screechy voice. Unusual accents. Very different look from pictures. Surprise about height. Depending on the person, some people are easier to get-to-know on-line...others are much easier to connect with in person. - Mitchell Tsai
I met my wife online. We've been together over ten years. - Ian May
What social life???? - Amit Morson
This sounds like a fun game, Mona. Guess my age and weight and win the prize! - Daniel J. Pritchett
THE FUTURE OF! Now get off my entry! You associal folks! :) - directeur
Scientific American (Sep 2008?) suggested that the "increased information sharing" in Facebook and other social media may produce a "primitive society" or "small town" effect where the community knows most of what's happening - for better or for worse. Their view was very old-school - concerned about allowing people the "opportunity to reinvent themselves" and running away from (concealing) a past where they badly f**ked up. - Mitchell Tsai
"opportunity to reinvent themselves" I was a * up. Thank God for opportunity. - Kimberly Bock
