@kenekaplan -- It's my first trip to SwSWi!! Looking forward to Pool 2.0, taking a ride in the teched-out RV, seeing some Intel Insiders http://scoop.intel.com/insider... on panels, at parties and hanging with my Intel pals @jeffmoriarty and @bryanrhoads.
- Ken Kaplan
I've also never gone - first time ever. Sure I'll miss many of the best parts, but looking forward to it.
- Louis Gray
my suggestion - get good walking sneakers or shoes and do 4-6 mile walks for 3 weeks prior to the event - the convention center setup is horrible and sxsw doesn't do antyhing to help by putting sessions in nyc and then as far as boston. of course it doesn't help when you walk 10 miles to hear zuckerberg and well you know how that went :-P
- Allen Stern
I want to, but maybe I'll be able to catch some of the parties. No extra cash for a ticket this year, I'm afraid.
- Phil G
Yeah Allen - because of that, I really don't plan on going to so many panels. I remember having the desire to go to 6-7 panels a day last year. I went to perhaps 4 total the entire time. It's just not practical to go to ANY panels, really, at SXSW. Seriously - someone needs to reassess if the Austin Convention Center is the best place for this event.
- Tamar Weinberg
i haven't seen this movie yet and every weekend try to make it, but fail miserably. i'm gonna try to check it tomorrow before the all star game
- Cee Bee
I absolutely love Rourke's performance in this film. But Penn deserves the win.
- triple t
I think it would be a hell of an accomplishment, considering he's trying to emote through all that face work he's had done!
- rowlikeagirl
I have to be honest ... Im a huge Mickey Rourke Fan ... but this movie .. was not an Academy Award Performance
- johnpiercy
Just saw THE WRESTLER, Rourke should definitely win.
- Steven Perez
Tough call - I think Rourke will win though ...
- Patrick Jordan
I thought Sean Penn was very good in Milk as well, but I don't think it's enough to beat Mickey.
- Rodfather
Go Mickey! Even though I heart Sean Penn, I really want Mickey to win this. He was A-MA-ZING!
- alanur
I loved Mickey and think The Wrestler should win best pic, but if we're talking about acting, Sean Penn did the better job of BECOMING a character that was very far from his normal personality. As much as I loved Mickey's performance, I just don't think it was much of a stretch from the real Mickey.
- Kirk Skodis
from twhirl
Hands down winner. The role was made for him.Or, he was made for the role.
- Michael Fidler
Kirk: I dug Rourke in The Wrestler, but wouldn't give it best pic at all. It was a VERY standard story that was well acted and shot, but nothing too innovative. Even though Button had some emotional flatness, I'd give it the edge against Wrestler.
- Steve Isaacs
He is unbelievable! I think he will win hands down.
- Adriana
Rourke is definitely making a comeback. Haven't seen The Wrestler yet but loved him as Marv in Sin City.
- Larry Kless
This is my last post to FF or any interwebz during business hours. The day has come. My user profile will be transfered over to the "new" servers and will not be able to access any non-work related sites, if I want to keep my job. *SIGH*. Damn the man! Over and out.

can we sent topics? this one is for fashion....lol...how to you keep your purple strips so purple??!! ha!
- dafire
finally got the video to play...I think it was my internet connection....really liked the snow images and music at the end. I like vimeo. And yah, don't eat on camera....that's just gross. lol. plus it's not polite to talk with your mouth full. :)
- dafire
Thanks for the notes (!). Dafire - I'll do a "hair day" episode just for you.
- Steve Isaacs
A vlog about vlogging :) I like the idea!
- Michael Forian
Michael - well just this initial video, it wont be that narrow moving forward. :)
- Steve Isaacs
Vlogabout. It's Australian for vlog about vlog, mate. How charmingly meta of you and Melissa is crazy. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time.

from Ketchum. damn. they have a really good rep over here in the UK
- sofiagk
I'm sorry, but am I the only one who thinks this is ridiculous? Because he has a job he's not allowed to have a personal opinion about a city and express that opinion on his personal Twitter? (Unless it's a company Twitter account - that's a different thing.) I get that you need to remain aware that things you post on social media are public, but seriously. Let's all be personality-free, opinion-lacking, spineless automatons from now on.
- Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
@JandyStone, yeah, you're the only one. Sure he's allowed, but FedEx is also allowed to pwn him like this and he should've known better.
- Kirk Skodis
from twhirl
Sure, FedEx is allowed to say hey, we disagree with your opinion because we obviously like the town enough to put our headquarters here, but I don't think he was wrong to express his opinion. And I don't see how his opinion of a town has anything to do with his job or the work he does for a company in that town. If he was working for the City of Memphis, maybe.
- Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
It sucks how you can't express yourself honestly when you're working in the corporate world, but that's how it is, I guess. But I'm not sure how to feel about FedEx saying (in an overly verbose manner) "Don't be dissin' my hood, biatch." Are they gonna bust a cap in him now?
- Victor Ganata
@JandyStone, it's just common courtesy. And with a client that big, it shows really poor judgement. Judgement that they pay handsomely for. If you knew I loved Corvettes, and we were friends, would you tell me how lame you think they are? Prolly not, if you're a polite person. Just common decency.
- Kirk Skodis
from twhirl
I dunno, if we were friends, and I hated Corvettes, I'd be honest, although I suppose I wouldn't harp on it. But this isn't about friends, it's about a business relationships. Which I guess isn't that different from relationships between gangsta crews.
- Victor Ganata
@Kirk, apparently we have different definitions of "friends," "polite" and "decency," because yeah, I'd totally tell a friend if I thought their car was lame, though I'd be glad that they were happy with the car, because really, it doesn't matter what I think about their car - it only matters if they like it. I probably wouldn't tell a business acquaintance that, and I wouldn't have advised the guy to say that, say, FedEx's campus sucked. The whole city though? Fair game.
- Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
I could see this backfiring on FedEx, publicity-wise.
- Victor Ganata
Well, if we're talking about being professional vs. personal, how professional was it for FedEd to leak a letter castigating a vendor for something completely unrelated to his job performance?
- Kevin Pedraja
Let's all be boring and not have opinions for fear of stepping on toes.
- Morton Fox
I don't see attribution attached to the letter. Was it anonymous? It could very easily backfire on FedEx. The original tweet was stupid, the (possibly anonymous) retribution by FedEx is malicious... especially the last paragraph. In the comments at the linked post, someone called the letter 'respectful'. Hardly.
- Jim Addz No Value
So much for transparency. I've said many things like that in public. You can buy my services but my soul's not for sale.
- Leo Laporte
I see that equally as someone from FedEx taking a throwaway line on Twitter too seriously.
- Morton Fox
This is why people should seriously consider what they make public for the whole world to read. Reminds me of that idiot on Facebook who called in sick to work and posted a picture of himself at a Halloween Party.
- Steve Sill
fred who? neaver heard of him i think some fedex driver is getting a bit above hime self Ford, Fairchild etc are important entrepreneurs in the history of business,
- Maurice Walshe
I missed this for some reason. And I note his passing with sadness. Though he had a number of acting roles through out his career, I will always remember the role of Khan. And I will always remember the letter he wrote to his son: http://members.fortunecity.com/bhive...

"David: in several ways. 1. Most news does not get covered by the “pros.” 2. News distribution channels are radically changing. When I was a kid we had three channels and a newspaper. Now? We have the web. To me it’s interesting to watch what these might be used for. 3. It lets me triangulate in on the truth a lot faster. If this were on TV I wouldn’t have been warned about it in real time. I might not have known until late tonight. You say that doesn’t matter. I think it does. The speed at which news gets to us all is very important. Maybe not for this story or the one yesterday, but someday it WILL be important. For instance, what if a chemically-toxic cloud were moving toward your house. Or a tornado. Wouldn’t you want to know now rather than in 45 minutes? 4. Even pro news is being impacted by this. The guy who shot this photo with his iPhone and put it on Twitter was on MSNBC within 20 minutes. That is a HUGE change in how the news is gathered and reported."
- Robert Scoble
Robert, all good points. I definitely would like to have the uptake on the toxic chem cloud sooner than 45m if possible, please ;)
- Melanie Reed
P.S. I am also not discounting all the prayers that were said for the passengers and crew changing the outcome of the story either.:) And I am praising God for that! :) Very happy for all! lol
- Melanie Reed
If our future is me watching my computer screen or phone to see if a chemically toxic cloud or tornado is moving towards me, please shoot me now.
- Rod Bauer
from twhirl
@Melanie Reed, I'm glad someone had the guts to say it: God (notified by all the prayers) - not the pilots - saved all those ppl.

If you are in downtown Toronto, you get proof that God is everywhere.
- Kamath (नमः)
Best I can come up with is that I know lots of hippies that look like Jesus too... As for who exists, I thought it was a fairly accepted historical fact that Jesus as a person existed and it was the whole 'son of God' thing that people questioned.
- FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
Last I heard there is still some doubt as to whether or not the person existed as many of the sources used for proof were unreliable. I think the community is still leaning very heavily toward actual existence though.
- xero
UH_OH I am forecasting deepness in the future of the post....

couldn't help but think of - "And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me."
- David Knight
Steve we are working on a podcast, can't wait to get it over to you to check out (I hope)...
- orionstarr
Yet the people who claim to love Jesus the most, treat the homeless the worst. Hmmm
- Summer
Summer, what kinda stereotypical crap statement is that, quit with the bitter hater attitude. I am not a vocal Christian at all, but I do belong to a Church, I love Jesus the most, as much as anyone could, I never push it on people and I guarantee noone on here ever even knew. But my Church and the people behind it help people in need as much as anybody and morre than most.
- Cody Heitschmidt
It's over the top steroetypical statements like yours that lead to everyone diggin in and going on the defensive and looking like radical idiots. That's like saying the most devote muslims blow people up or the blackest americans are gang-bangers or whitest skinned folks are kkk. Sorry to go off but folks we gotta get over this shit and let people live THEIR lives.
- Cody Heitschmidt
One man's church is another's punchline, we go round and round..

4.5 / 5 Stars - Very well done movie. I love how they piece his life story together based on the answers from the "Who Want's to Be a Millionaire" game show. Interesting story which isn't too predictable in some parts. Great shots of India as well and some very strong acting performances Soundtrack was surprisingly strong as well IMO. I really enjoyed the storytelling in this movie. Anyone else seen it?

3.5 stars for me. 1st half better than 2nd half. I like Boyle's films as a rule, but this one was a little too predictable for me. Good overall I would definitely recommend it!

I was surprised last week when I was looking up people from bygone years. Did you know that Mitch Miller is still alive (The Yellow Rose Of Texas guy). He's not far off 100.
- Ian May
"The term "celebrity trainwreck" is used far too often, and when it is, it's usually in reference to women — conjuring up images of Lindsay Lohan passed out in her car, Britney Spears at the 2007 VMAs, or Amy Winehouse doing, well, just about anything. But there's something endearing about a woman who just doesn't give a shit about behaving in — what others might deem — an embarrassing or unladylike way. Perhaps it's that strength that allows us to be entertained (from a distance) by their antics, because at the end of the day, all of the women on the list are entertainers, even if some of their most entertaining moments weren't so deliberate. In the list of our 15 Favorite Most Ridiculous Women — which, let's face it, could also be called "15 Women Gay Men Love" — we take a look at why we enjoy what they do."

I can't believe I read through all of these... but I couldn't help myself. My favorite is the quote from Tara Reid "I wish all the mean people, if you want to be mean to each other, just buy a country together and blow each other up. Then we’d have no terrorists left. Like, don’t kill innocent people for no reason. It’s not fair. We love everybody. We’d even like them if they said...

A little DIAB and Conchords. JT is SNL's new go to guy too. Playing the janitor? Nice touch. Nothing beats Conchords Bowie episode though.

Or if demand is low during the holiday ... buh-bye Kindle.

I'd like to get one of these, but the price is still way too steep. Make it 250.00 and I'm in.

The new design makes me want to get an old one while I can... bleh.

Why not just use a mini or an ipod touch or an eee?
- Lori Reed
The Kindle is made for reading, only reading. Days on a charge, downloads right over the air to the device. I like it. iPod touch is too small and I don't do Windows.
- Steve Isaacs
Have one and I'm a fan. Share it with wife and it's easy to bookmark, etc. Favorite features include highlighting, making notes and looking stuff up on dictionary or wiki. This new case looks like an improvement to all the weird angles on 1.0

Can we please permanently hide all Nickelback mentions on FF, forever? There should be an option for that. I wish I could insert blips and censored screens in every audio and video clip where Nickelback is mentioned. If I never hear of them again, it'll be too soon.
- Raoul Pop
I'd rather eat my own uterus than listen to Nickelback, myself.
- Helen Sventitsky
Nickelback is responsible for self cannibalization? Not going to listen to NB - want my body parts intact :)
- Janet
I'd rather go back in time and eat my own self as a fetus so I had never been born instead of listen to Nickelback.
- Steve Isaacs
I don't know anyone who likes Nickelback. So who is it that is buying their crap and making them think they need to continue making music?

"Rock Star" got to #1 in the UK while I lived there. Why? I don't know. People thought it was "funny", perhaps. And on Radio 1 they bleeped out the words "drug dealer". After which they would go back to pretending to be hip & edgy. Fail.
- Alexander Carlill
I'd rather shit in my own mouth, and have it sewn shut with old guitar strings than listen to Nickelback.
