It is only funny if you still have a 60's mentality.

I think this pin hurt the Republicans more than it did Obama.
- Kit Krash
Hunh, I saw the pin before I knew who was selling it. I assumed it was POC (peeps of color) messing with the pun. Just goes to show that context is key.

Of course it won't be based on Racism, but Democracy. Real Democracy of course www.realdemocracyinamerica.com

Women like what marketeers, social designers and evolutionary psychologists tell them to like. So do men. Young girls like sci-fi now, it's ok. Guys don't have to like football. I think the article is a mind seed. A meme. It fits in with other girl-social meme stereotypes so it will stick. you are not your astrology sign until someone tells you what it is. You follow expectations and then convince yourself to stay consistent till that's what you become. It's all social engineering.
- Kit Krash
Interesting. There are actually quite a few married men over 30 on my Pownce friends list. Different services probably attract different demographics though. My Pownce group skews highly nerdy (in a good way).
- Heidi Cool
I have noticed that many of the folk befriending me on Myspace do fall into the 35-50 female category and a group of friends in that age group from a reality tv forum all joined last year to follow one of the show's contestants...mind you - a few older and (younger!) men are befriending me now too....must be my trendy hairstyle..lol!!

While it may be the 'most happening room' it seems to be the same people all the time, not that that's a bad thing. It would be nice to have some new people in the conversation though.
- Timothy Neilen
definitely the best one I'm subscribed to right now.
- Natitude
very true! It's certainly inspired me to come visit FF more often.
- Heidi Cool
This is one of the main reasons I come to FF.
- Ethan Klapper
Let's all do our best to get new people participating in the room :) I'm glad we're the most happening room on Friendfeed :)

When I look at info just in the stream, I don't realize how cool it is right off, lots of great info here!

@tamar I agree, this room is on and popping!! The level and speed of interaction, and the diversity of content is fantastic.

Trust the people who did none of things alluded to in this video... even thought they had the full control of all houses from 1992 to 1994 and did nothing. Trust the GOVERNMENT, because they make promises it can't keep.
- Noah David Simon
I love the fact that the democrats allude that THEY are the ones who will respect the constitution. Neither major party has in the past, nor will they start any time soon.
- Dave Roth
I'd be voting Republican (if I were a US citizen).

I'm voting Republican, because, like, liberalz sukk! *pouts, folds arms and stamps foot*
- Jason Menayan
I notice the postings kicking into simplistic bipolar mental models. If Republican stood for dog food and Democrat stood for cat food, which one would you be eating for breakfast tomorrow morning?
- Kit Krash
this is the kind of patronizing democrat malaise that plagues the valley.
- Kingsley Joseph
from twhirl
yea but if your gung ho on either camp, I know a psychological strategy that will be having you eat either dog food or cat food by tomorrow morning. It's based on the principles of Aristotelian logic, consistency and memetic trojan horses.

"Immersing myself in a book or a lengthy article used to be easy. My mind would get caught up in the narrative or the turns of the argument, and I’d spend hours strolling through long stretches of prose. That’s rarely the case anymore. When I mention my troubles with reading to friends and acquaintances—literary types, most of them—many say they’re having similar experiences. The more they use the Web, the more they have to fight to stay focused on long pieces of writing."
- Maki
Maki - I actually reference you in this blog post related to Nick Carr's article (http://tinyurl.com/68xgh5). An area he didn't explore is apophenia, finding insight in a large stream of disparate, random data.
- Hutch Carpenter
Great article, I just finished reading his new book The Big Switch a few weeks ago, I highly recommend it to anyone interested in the internet, computing and what the future may hold.
- mark076h
No, I agree with Socrates and think that books are what has made us stupid. They close our species mental capacities into well tread trajectories while the decentralized knowledge base of the internet is allowing for more expansive thinking abilities.

The brain does not necessarily slow down with age—it depends on what you do to exercise it and keep it flexible and in shape. The brain can also keep on growing, at any age.

Well if you only rely on news from Google, CNN, and the New York Post, who knows if there is any brain left, even before you reach 30.

Survivors of the that bubble became huge and others just faded away. One that was always speculation that would fail was Amazon. I think we will see something similar. Fast growth of technology and ideas but only the best will survive the long time.
- Geoff Corey
I think people are being more careful this time around. Last time, most start ups didn't seem to have any business strategy and focused more on the fact that employees could play pool all day and bring their dogs to work.
- Daniele Rossi
I don't get it... this is a bubble? It feels like shit. I can't imagine the pop
- Noah David Simon
real estate bubble, fizzle, pop. credit bubble, fizzle, pop. dot-bombed already, so money is smarter. survivors of social media will fare well.
- Kit Krash
I have been doing some research into the growth of social media recently and it looks pretty similar to me in some ways..in terms of bandwagon jumping by those with money to burn. Ordinary folk just seem to enjoy socialising and talking to people online and as more people are used to being online all the time these days with the spread of broadband and multi-computer homes, there are a lot more people about to chat than there were previously.
- Julia Ault
Audience is definately larger and that might be a very important point. Smarter with money may be a different story. We are very conservative at the startup I work for but I have seen other blogs at other startup bragging about buying ikea furniture and aireon chairs right after getting funding. I'm not sure those folks will make it spending cash on frilly stuff.
- Geoff Corey
With all this talk of FriendFeed de-throning Twitter as the social networking app du jour, I think it's important to consider that, as FriendFeed adds more features, it will quickly move away from the simplicity and free-form nature that everybody loves about Twitter. Thoughts?
Won't matter at all if Twitter's *basic* features are always unstable/unavailable.
- Brian Carter
FF has the right balance right now. But if they go for more, they should put serious consideration into how they will interface it and have a UX strategy.
- Kit Krash
Don't change a winning formula, anything that points in a new direction could have the wrong impact!
- Joe Dawson
FriendFeed is already more complex than Twitter, although more free-form by its ability to aggregate all kinds of RSS feeds. It's not fair to compare the two because FriendFeed is capable of much more.
- Mark Dykeman
That is one of the reasons why both services can coexist.
- Muhammad Saleem
Muhammed - right, but the general consensus around parts of the blogosphere is that people are leaving Twitter in favor of FriendFeed, which will put pressure on FF to duplicate many of the core features of twitter. My concern is that FF will, in doing this, suffer from a case of too many "features". Just my $.02 :)
- Brett Kelly
I think it depends on what features are implemented into FriendFeed whether it will become bloated or not.
- Timothy Neilen
very true but I think FF has actually added features that increase the value without cluttering things up too much. I love it...via feedalizr

The most useful feature for me was to track keywords over the IM bot, which, of course, is still down.

At first, only for direct messages to RTM, gcal, etc. Very useful. But I'm enjoying following several folks and making attempts to contribute to the flow of conversation.
- Larry Huffman
Sorry what do I use it for? Or what do I want to use it for! It is down half the time! How about finding a contact for someone who in a specific industry Tweeted you a week ago? Do you think it is possible?
- Igor The Troll יִצְחָק
I am using FF on FF right now. Flock is slow, but we already had that conversation
- Ethan Klapper
FiFo has a nice flow to it, but FrFe? Not so much.
- JAbbott
@JAbbott , i say FriFree (free-free)
- Ethan Klapper
or FrFee (pronounced "fur fee") or FeFi (pronounced "feh fee"); we should def set the trend. ;)
- Kimberly J
@ethanklapper the room discussed flock? [Ah yes, now I see.] Well, now that I have FrFee (heh!) and ST and realized the limitations of having all of the social networking run from software (my laptop was busted for days), I may just get rid of flock and try either "straight" FIFo (capital "I" to make the long "I" sound) or safari (shudder).

TWITTER... and I believe the solution to twitters problems would be to create Micro-Twitters. Each Baby Twitter would have it's own supervisory to protect from social harassment. Thus the problems of overpopulation in the central core would never happen again. It is the perfect solution... it could be rooms in twitter.... but each would have it's very own database.

Check out Hakim Bey's book Immediatism or the Situationist International. Social media is a light connection like a cocktail party. But real social satisfaction comes from something more immediate. Maybe the key is to keep a trajectory in that direction, knowing like Zeno's paradox, it will never get there but it will be good enough for now.
- Kit Krash
Currently, in the UK, diesel is about $8-$9 a gallon. Filling up costs about $120. Yeah, it sucks, but prices need to go up in order to prompt development of environmentally-friendly technologies and public transport.
- Tom Morris
I believe we should develop environmentally-friendly tech, but not based on a lie on supply to jack up prices. We need more user-friendly environmentalism for it to work in the long term.
