Have any of you ever had to get a gel out of a tube into a syringe? I have to do this with Miss Billie's potassium and I spend a *minimum* of 10 minutes fighting to get 1ml in the syringe. Feeling very overwhelmed. :-/
Hmm I'm guessing that means it's not sucking up when you retract the plunger while in the gel. Can you get a syringe where the plunger pulls off and then squeeze the gel in the back end?
- SteVe C
yeah, my suggestion would be a larger needle, like maybe a 20g?
- holly #ravingfangirl
I have to get the end of the syringe into the opening of the tube. The vet's office said I should squeeze the tube and let the gel move the plunger and it sort of worked last night, but not this morning. I suppose if I had forearms like Popeye it wouldn't be much of an issue. As it is, I'm damn glad I don't have serious carpal tunnel issues or we'd be screwed.

One of the male cats that hangs out around my building has sprayed by my front door. Not cool. Thinking I should ask the resident manager to hose things down. Should I spray the area with white vinegar as well? Or something else?
Do you have BioZet washing powder over there?
- ☆ Mellyboo ☆
I use Anti Icky Poo on everything though I don't normally have to deal with spraying I do regularly deal with more concentrated urine issues. Only thing that has ever kept my cats from still smelling the urine or whatever scent. If you have already used some chemicals on the area I recommend pre-treating with their P-bath.

Okay, it isn't funny, but "P-Bath" is cracking me up.

Katy, I think they are trying to be funny/cute and descriptive at the same time. It has always made me snicker a bit too!

Thanks for the tips. Melly, I haven't heard of BioZet but will look for it. Janet, you are too funny.
- Corinne L
Rachel, thanks for reminding me that we actually own some Anti-Icky Poo. Speaking of which - I will say that the only places we can keep Whitey Herzog from peeing (or spraying) are places we've sprayed with Feliway, which I think is by the same manufacturer. I know we originally ordered them from the same place, which turned out not to be the manufacturer but an affiliate. (I swear...

"The above cat is named Foxie. She’s got a loud purr, an extremely pettable coat, and a case of what the vet describes as “very treatable” cancer. Without treatment, the tumor in her sinus cavity will continue to slowly grow until it kills her. With treatment, she’s got plenty of life left in her. I don’t like to try to “monetize” this blog or in any way take advantage of our great community of readers, but if you have even a couple bucks you can contribute to help pay for Foxie’s treatment, please do so. There’s a donation page set up, and in under a minute you can help save my cat. Thanks."

In which they look on as Nash continues on his way along the balcony and down the stairs.
- Corinne L
Nash has dementia, I think, based on how he will wander around the building and howl. The day I took these pictures he wasn't hissing at my cats at all, which he has done in the past.

"This sign made me laugh. ( I guess we'll be even more irrelevant when kitties take on careers! We should just accept our fate.) I spotted it last Saturday at the Yellow Dog Pet Supply in Frenchtown, NJ. I was in town for lunch at the Bridge Cafe with my Philly friends Martha and Kenny. Afterwards, we toured the cute shops in the Victorian town that is situated on the Delaware River. Just beautiful!"

Rooney is still having issues with loose stools. His energy level is high and his appetite/water intake is good. I honestly don't have the funds to cover another trip to the vet. I don't even want to call them because I already feel like a horrible cat mom.
What is he eating? Simon has to have Prescription i/d because of irritable bowel issues.
- vicster
Purina Pro Plan for kittens. Several people here had good things to say about it.
- Corinne L
He may need the prescription diet (or something similar). Simon had the same issues, when he was a kitten.
- vicster
Guess that means I gotta suck it up and call the vet. I feel like a big pile of wrong. Not from what you said, Vic, just in general as it relates to Rooney's health.
- Corinne L
*hugs* you're not a bad cat mom. I went through the same feeling, too, especially since Simon's issues coincided with Chloe's (the kitten I adopted w/Simon) FIP illness/death.
- vicster
Thanks Vic. I called and talked to a tech about what's been going on - she will consult with the doc and get back to me.
- Corinne L
Another damn fecal. And the price went up. GODDAMMIT.
- Corinne L
Update: finally had funds to drop off new stool sample at vet today. Rooney went this morning and there was blood in his stool. :-( I'm hoping this is a diet thing and not something more serious.
- Corinne L
I had made a mental note on the way home tonight to ask about Rooney. I'm sorry he has blood in his stool and I hope it is an easy diet fix.
- vicster
Thanks Vic. I hope so too. He gets gassy frequently and is known for some rank SBDs, so it's very possible it's diet.
- Corinne L
I wish we lived closer so I could drop off some of Simon's prescription diet for Rooney to try. It really does sound a lot like how Simon was at that age, before we changed his food.
- vicster
Good news - no parasites! Waiting for a call from the vet to talk about diet changes.

"Most people know how sensitive a cat’s whiskers are, and wouldn’t be rough with that spot on their faces. What people don’t realize is that while the muzzle contains the greatest number of whiskers, cats actually have them all over their bodies, on their paws, head, back… They’re smaller and finer, so not as easily seen, but if you look closely, they’re there. Just as some people aren’t ticklish, some cats aren’t particularly sensitive about their whiskers, or about being touched. For some cats, however, their whiskers are ultra sensitive, and not just on their faces but everywhere. Imagine that you were incredibly ticklish, and that someone – for the sake of argument, someone you even liked a lot – wouldn’t stop tickling you. You’d be screaming “stop, stop,” right? Well, imagine now that you only spoke Urdu, but your tickler spoke only French. And because he didn’t understand, he wouldn’t stop. Eventually, what would you do – if he weighed 10 times what you did and you couldn’t get away? Right. You’d bite him, or hit him."

"Tiny kittens are very cute. This can often lead to them being taken away from their mother while they are still too young to go. While they can walk, eat, and eliminate on their own around four weeks of age, this is only the beginning. Mom, and littermates, are supposed to teach a lot more things to the baby kitten. When a kitten is not “raised by cats” this can be a kitten who hasn’t yet learned how to get along with others."

This is what, for Simon, was especially bad about losing Chloe (she was about 2 weeks older than Simon and I adopted them together). He was about 4 months old when she got sick with FIP and 5 months old when she died. That was such a critical time in his development (I didn't realize it at the time, because they are my first cats). Billie didn't come to us for another month and a half....

"Cee Lo Green has introduced The Voice fans to his "secret weapon" - a cat named Purrfect. The 'Forget You' singer stroked the white cat while he discussed the upcoming second season of The Voice in a new video ahead of the show's return following the Super Bowl on Sunday (February 5). Cee Lo described the cat as "very dear to [his] heart"."
