Nymmy is at the vet again! She has been throwing up everything the last couple days. Likely because of her meds, but she has now gone too long without food so we have to find out. :(
Sophie (aka Houdini http://friendfeed.com/k8s...) has slipped her collar for the 4th time in 4 days. Each time, it's been harder to find. Today, I can't find it. My only hope is that Plum finds it and plays with it, thus placing it within my sight. I am not amused.
I'm not super-worried, because she never shows the slightest interest in going outside. If she was a door-darter, I'd be much more concerned. She is micro-chipped, but people are more likely to assume a cat that gets outside with a collar belongs to someone than one that doesn't have one on.
- Katy S
Then she may be too smart for a collar! Ours haven't really figured out they can snap out of their collars :P
- Rene Wirtz
I'm sensing a pattern here with Sophie! :-D Simon is pretty good about his collar. Billie, on the other hand, threw herself to the floor and pretended to be choking to death after I put hers on. That night she peed on the couch. She sort of got used to it until one day I thought she was having a seizure but it turned out she had somehow managed to get her lower jaw caught in it! She remains collarless.

She had been really good about the collar for a long time, especially since I had removed the bell. However lately, she seems to have changed her mind about it. At this point, I'd just like to find it.
- Katy S
I give up. I still can't find her cute collar and she has now taken off the spare collar 3 times. Every single time I put it back on her, I get that look from the first picture. I now know how she does it. She's figured out that she can unsnap it by pressing in the sides of the buckle using her teeth.

In Lexington, KY, I knew a one eyed hobo who had a cat with a rope knotted around its neck that he dragged around with him. (Trufax, actually). Maybe a different style collar?
- Archangel ωαřмaiden
Warmaiden - maybe. I'm just a little leery of having a collar that isn't a breakaway-type on a cat.
- Katy S
The collar turned up this morning (Monday). It was on the floor next to my bed. It wasn't there when I went to bed. I suspect Plum found it, played with it, and left it there since she's always leaving toys next to my bed during the night.

Plum: "I is good kitty! I gets my sister in trouble!"
- D0r0th34
Sometimes I think that's what siblings do best! I knew it would turn up. When I take their collars off to furminate them, Plum is always trying to play with the collars. I figured that if she came across it that she wouldn't be able to resist the opportunity.
- Katy S
So, after letting a long period of time go by in which I allowed Sophie to remain collarless, I put the collar on her tonight. I made sure it was tighter than it was before so that it would be hard for her to unlatch the buckle. Collar-wearing happened for all of 15 minutes. I give up.

My cats do not wear collars due to similar difficulties, but they seem to enjoy the comforts of home far too much to go out exploring.
- laura x
Mine are fairly comfortable living the life of luxury indoors, too. But her collar is cute and argyle, so I thought I'd try again and see if she'd wear it. I'm more amazed that Plum doesn't try to take off her collar.

G'Morning everyone! I just projectile spewed chunky gobs of spoiled milk into my refrigerator. I was so tired I didn't realize until I got quite a bit down & then it all came right back up. It's Monday. I need coffee.
Katy, this reminds me - you live in Angola, yes? Am going to be down there for Christmas visiting my folks, would you like to meet up?
- Laura H.
Laura - I'm actually getting ready to pack up and go to see relatives. I'll be out of the area most of the time.
- Katy S
Aww, pooh. Well, happy holidays and have fun with your relatives! :)
- Laura H.
Love her 'tude in #4. "This bad kitty ain't gettin' no bath!"

The Bad Kitty books are hilarious. That's for one of my nephews. He has some reading difficulties, so books like that are good for him. Lots of pictures, but good text, too. It's somewhere between a picture book and a kid's graphic novel (like the Captain Underpants books).

Kitty Reminder Again - With Photos!! Same as before but with photos of our friend's kitty who recently swallowed yarn and apparently shoelaces (They can't figure out where the shoelaces came from). Please keep, yarn, shoelaces, string, etc away from your kitties. They may not be able to pass it themselves which means surgery or worse. Be careful!
In the baggy, everything that came out of her stomach. That is an impressive amount of string for a little kitty. Also, here is the other post: http://friendfeed.com/kitteh...
- Rachel Lea Fox
I'm bumping this because it's important!!! Especially with holiday ribbons becoming more frequent!! I know two very careful, very loving kitty owners who have had to have surgery on their kitties because of string in the last 2 months!! And my Nym got lucky and passed her string, but could have easily not been so lucky!! Be careful everyone!! Take care of your awesome kittehs!!

Tinsel is baaaaad. My mom's cat ate some and passed it - we only knew because it was fluttering behind him as he walked through the house. We nicknamed him Sparklebutt after that, but the tinsel came off immediately and never reappeared. I'm so lucky my Moxie had surgery before any damage was done by the string...

Poor kitty. Cassie's cat Oliver did that a few years back. I think she's still paying off the surgery.
- Alex Scoble
glad the kitteh was ok. (as a side note: Tinsel IS bad - and I'm not just talking for kittehs.)

Christmas presents and their packaging aren't safe around here.
- Katy S
Tonight is even worse. I can't bring anything inside without her fully examining it. I won't even get into what happens when I try to actually wrap presents.
- Katy S
I really need to get up and deal with some laundry, but I have one of those 50 pound cats (http://friendfeed.com/hedgeho...) on top of me right now, and she's happily sleepy and warm.
I'm pretty sure she knows how cute she is, too. She tries to pull the feline equivalent of that manipulative tactic that a former-student of mine called the "cute girl act" all of the time. She's good at it, too.
- Katy S
She's back on me and I really should get that wet laundry into the dryer so I'm not up as late as I was last night (online Christmas shopping until 3am). But, she's so quiet and content - and warm.
- Katy S
She's not even on my lap and I don't want to move. I just want to skritch her...

"Instead of installing an entire pet door, I bought a replacement flap and secured it with wood screws. I put a border around the flap to conceal some not-so-straight jigsaw work and to make it look a little more like a door. I used industrial strength Velcro to secure the box to a piece of plastic coated particle board, which I then mounted on drawer slides. The box slides out for easy scooping, and because it's attached with Velcro, it can be detached from the board for thorough cleaning when necessary. I also cut out three rear vents on the back of the cabinet for ventilation. In addition, I installed two mesh trays for storage - one above the box and one above the litter mat. The tray above the box holds a carbon filter for absorbing odors and the one above the litter mat holds a small hand held brush and dustpan for cleaning up litter. Overall, I'm very satisfied with how this turned out - litter tracking is mostly contained in the cabinet and odor is pretty non-existent. The kitties love their private and spacious litter box too!""

"Subvert the patriarchy and get your kitty buzzed with a catnip-stuffed Katpon! My cat Laz (pictured looking his most innocent) has been a serial tampon molester for years. And what's not to love: they're small, chewy, and slide really well when you bat them across the bathroom floor. I thought I'd finally broken him of the habit until I woke up a few mornings ago to see his head sticking out of the cabinet with a you-know-what clamped firmly in his fangs. After 4 years of battle, I finally sat down that morning with my hook and started to design Laz a Katpon of his very own. When he climbed up in my lap while I worked out the prototype, I knew I was on to something. The amount of fun he had chasing it up and down the hallway clinched it: Katpons were a hit."

Ha! My friend has been doing this for years for her cats! The first time I saw her then 13 yo cat playing with one I just about died. Then she told me that she rolled and stuffed them with catnip.
