Tonight, for the first time ever, I heard this cat growl. It was a wimpy little growl and then she ran away, but it was a growl. - http://www.flickr.com/photos...
The cats always go into hiding when someone comes over. I knew my parents were coming over, so I was holding her while she looked out the window, which she generally likes. When my parents' vehicle appeared she tensed up. The second one of them stepped out of it, the sad little growls started. Then she squirmed and got away from me. She also ripped the old t-shirt I was wearing. So much for that. I'd never dare try with Sophie, though.

It was both sad and funny. She's such a shy little thing around other people. It's funny, because she's bold and gregarious with me and she's been known to visit a little with my niece and nephews, but for the most part, she goes into deep hiding when there are other people around.

If I ever come to visit, I wonder if they will sense that I am one of their people and therefore it's safe to come out and be social.

I don't know. She runs from my parents and they're fairly cat-friendly. Sophie sometimes comes out to be social, but Plum's a little fluffy gray chicken.

You should see her at the vet. She shakes the whole time and, while on the examining table, buries her head into my torso while the vet gives her shots. She only faces him when he forces her so that he can look at her teeth, eyes, and ears. It's pitiful.
