"Sorry I didn’t get back to you sooner… Anyway, I used the FB ad plan (i.e., directly from FB) to promote a page for a project. Within a few days, we had over 700 likes, which was great, except they were all from the same micro-asian country and under 16 years old, which did not at all correspond to the project we were trying to promote. It was just not credible at all, a scandal and a loss of money (only $15 but still). I don’t understand why this isn’t better known…" - Brad Kligerman

"I learned the hard way, and without doing any research, paid Facebook to boost a post. 700 likes piled up over the $15 limit I established. They were all fake. I should have known better. On the other hand, your media-kit seems like a good idea." - Brad Kligerman

kliger on What's your biggest frustration/difficulty with FDM 3DP? - http://www.reddit.com/r...
"Every medium has its limitations. FDM, despite being relatively cheap, versatile and accessible, frames the structure of objects it fabricates *easily* based on the limitation of bottom-up layers. It’s like architecture, where it’s certainly *possible* to build really cool organic-like structures, but only by approximating nature’s complexity using real world material economy (economy in a financial and structural sense). Anyway, my point being, I think we can’t ask FDM to do that which it’s not capable of doing. Try working with these limitations creatively by asking **How can scaffolding enhance an object’s form, rather than just be a nuisance?**" - Brad Kligerman

kliger on What's your biggest frustration/difficulty with FDM 3DP? - http://www.reddit.com/r...
"The reality of the situation is that 3DP's early adapters (i.e., us), those who need/want these machines, are financing the debugging of these products. Their marketing is based on wishful thinking and the potential of their technology, and not the actual performance. Fraudulent is a strong word, because quite frankly, I know what I’m getting into when I put my money down for one of these printers." - Brad Kligerman

kliger on What's your biggest frustration/difficulty with FDM 3DP? - http://www.reddit.com/r...
"I always assumed that 3DP's biggest difficulty was making the **3D Model** and the workflow surrounding that. But that wasn’t even touched here. Is it because : - you are in a profession where 3D Modeling is essential (architecture, animation, game design, industrial design), therefore it's not a problem ? - you get your models from repositories (…) and that the use or content of the object being printed is less important than tweaking the hardware? - 3D modeling isn't *that* difficult? - the object's quality and finish are more important than its design?" - Brad Kligerman

"After being contacted by at least ten services after launching a campaign, I dialogued with several people via email, those who bothered to respond to my request for more information, without being satisfied by the details they offered. My experience with paying for Likes, press or Follows has always been a fiasco and ripoff. Thus, no, I decided not to use their services for my Kickstarter campaign." - Brad Kligerman

kliger on reddit, we're trying to spread the word about our role in education. Did you know any student or educator can download their favorite Autodesk design software for free? - http://www.reddit.com/comment...
"yeah, free edu software is a great idea in the world of computer labs, when laptops weren’t cheap(er) and ubiquitous and most executives of the companies offering free edu software were still in college. what you elicit here is a real problem." - Brad Kligerman

"While I totally agree with the using open source software, especially for education: it’s a great learning experience about the mechanics of 3D modeling, the connexion between the choice of a design tool and the actual project, and building community, I wish I could agree that the job market is heading this way. I always have Blender running somewhere in my studio, though!" - Brad Kligerman

"Thanks for this post Dave, and to Doc for the great followup. I can sadly underline Doc's claim that "…you don't have to be old…" to "stop learning and adapting." As an architect and university professor, I sadly see people too young "closing their minds down…" before they have the experience to know better. I can only hope to inspire them to open up in time to take advantage of youth's wild energy. Re: ThinkTank ad from 1984 - http://scripting.com/2014...
"After actually reading the content of this ad sometime in the mid-80s and finally understanding the potential for the Mac Plus sitting on my desk, I bought my first commercial software application: Thinktank. I've been using outlines and outline apps ever since. To me, outlines are more than a technique or format: they are a meta-media that structures everything from the creative ideas that changed my life, to the nagging details of the quotidian. Dave, seeing this post is more than a trip down memory lane, but a reminder that: Thinktank-like structures are somehow embedded in every digital technology I use." - Brad Kligerman

"I'm no developer, but as a designer embedded in the digital/networked world, I used BYTE to know what was really coming next. For me, WIRED replaced BYTE as our muse. Though less technical, WIRED was able to point designers in the right direction, showing us where we could at least find the code or details that were needed. Somehow, I never got the same satisfaction reading WIRED; making my way through a BYTE article was a test of fortitude for us non-developers." - Brad Kligerman
