The 5 Worst Networking Flops, and How to Recover From Them
I've been to my fair share of networking events, sometimes as the speaker and sometimes as a fellow participant. From each vantage point, I've witnessed many impressive, thoughtful and incredibly beneficial interactions. I've also seen some embarrassing networking flops. Most flops, however, are really just awkward moments from which — with a bit of effort — you can recover. What are the most common violations? Read more... Startup Slobs Versus the New Elements of Geek Style
When the pocket protectors and taped glasses version of the geek gradually gave way to present-day techie staples such as hoodies and flip flops, it might have seemed like the evolution of geek style had hit its ceiling — simplicity and comfort in the service of marathon coding sessions This aggressively casual approach, the style of no style, is embodied most visibly in the likes the of Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg, who refuses to part with his hoodie, even pre-IPO, and Apple's design chief Jony Ive, who talks a good design game, but is usually seen in a t-shirt and jeans But in recent months, as the once fragile "tech bubble" has failed to burst, a subtle shift toward shedding the sweatpants and New Balance running shoes and adopting a cleaner, more professional look has begun to crop up among some developers. Why Hollywood Is Producing So Many Damn Remakes
"Remake" is a Hollywood executive's favorite word Almost as long as movies have been made, there have been directors, producers and writers clamoring to reboot the hell out of everything that's ever hit theaters Why? Because sometimes, it really works. Without the original 1932 Scarface, audiences wouldn't have the later 1983 masterpiece starring Al Pacino. The same goes for Ocean's Eleven, The Maltese Falcon, Some Like It Hot and other Hollywood gems. Dig deep into movie history, and you'll find that many successful films are actually just polished versions of celluloid past See also: 11 Movies That Change When You're an Adult Read more...
