Women Are Vastly Underrepresented in On-Screen Workforce, Study Finds
Hopefully you've already heard of the Bechdel test, which asks if a film (or, really, any work of fiction) meets three criteria: There are two or more female characters with names, they talk to each other and the topic of conversation is about something other than a man It seems simple enough, but as of June, half of 2014's films failed the test. Now, according to a new U.N.-backed report from the Geena Davis Institute on Gender and Media, we see that women aren't equally represented in their on-screen professions, either. See also: 5 Times the Internet Demanded Gender Equality The first-ever international report on gender images in global films, which analyzed 120 films in the most profitable movie markets worldwide between 2010 and 2013, found that only 22.5% of working film characters (with names and speaking roles) were women. Man Jailed for Tweeting Rape Threats
In a landmark decision at Westminster Magistrates' Court in London, a man was sentenced to 18 weeks of jail time Monday for having tweeted (and retweeted) a series of rape threats at a British member of parliament. Peter Nunn, a Bristol-based blogger, launched his tirade at Stella Creasy, Labor MP for Walthamstow. Creasy backed a campaign to put preeminent novelist Jane Austen on the British £10 banknote That campaign finally succeeded in July 2013 — which is when Nunn started sending abusive tweets directed at Creasy from a number of different accounts. Death Wish: Longboard Skateboarder Bombs Down Cliffside Road As Fast As Possible
This is a promo video for Arbor Skateboards featuring pro longboarder James Kelly bombing a bunch of roads out west at TOP SPEED. I'm pretty sure I would have flown off the road into a canyon and died on the first turn, possibly even before. Clearly James has complete confidence in his skills, or has a death wish. Did I mention he wipes out at 2:25? Because he wipes out at 2:25. I've eaten shit on my skateboard barely doing 5MPH before and thought I was a goner, and he's going like 25-30MPH. He has special skid pads on though. Plus isn't a sissy and probably didn't call his mom crying to pick him up from the end of the street after it happened. Keep going for the video.
