do other scientists not need one? or is this a new way of increasing our performance on metrics? Not allowing the americans to register :) - Cameron Neylon
Yup, I have no clues why other scientist would need this less in their opinion - Konrad Förstner
Actually, I think there is a considerably higher fraction of scientists with asian names in the US compared to in Europe, so they should need it more than us (due to the difficulties of disambiguating asian names) - Lars Juhl Jensen
but why create a DAI when everyone already has a unique email address that could be hashed for this? - Mr. Gunn
How stable are email addresses though? - Bill Hooker
I don't think you can count on people using the same email address on their publications throughout their career. I think that I have already used three if not four different email accounts on publications as a result of changes in affiliation. Also, who knows if we will even be using email by the time I go on pension? - Lars Juhl Jensen
Does that matter? All you're doing is using it as a guaranteed unique identifier for hashing purposes. The address doesn't have to remain active, it just has to have been yours when you claimed it and the hash remains thenceforth. This would allow some neat usages, like being able to easily group all the people from a given institution, because they'll have a contiguous hashspace. Certainly more clever people than I have thought about the idea of namespaces, but can we apply some of their ideas here? - Mr. Gunn
Oh no! Why not? You should contact Hilary at precedings at nature.com and let her know. - Euan
Okay, seems to be my system - tried Firefox + Gnash first then Opera Linux binaries with an emulator on OpenBSD (which works for most Flash-apps). Checked in parallel on a Windows machine of a colleague but the loading took unexpectedly long so I thought it's not working at all. - Konrad Förstner
it is working for me. I noticed a few bugs in formatting changes but overall it is useful. - Pedro Beltrao
