I mean: the argument that same-sex marriage shouldn't be allowed (because marriage is only a state subsidy on having chldren), can't be used by the people that are against same-sex marriage (because most of them are also religious). - Panayotis Vryonis
from their point of view there are two reasons to be in favor of traditional state-regulated marriage, a) it's compatible with religion and b) it promotes the 'public good' by encouraging people to have babies. Regardless of (a), which shouldn't matter when it comes to the state, the only reason to include same-sex couples in the regulations would be either that you believe same-sex marriages encourage baby making or that you are against point (b) on principle. - Kostantinos Koukopoulos
