"FriendFeed recently added a post to Twitter feature meaning they now have to obey the 140 character limit of Twitter. Instead of relying on a external URL shortening service like TinyURL, they’ve come up with their own service called ff.im. The domain ff.im redirects to Friendfeed, and there is no way to use ff.im directly." - Erhan Erdogan via Bookmarklet

Be careful what you wish for. The political direction swings like a pendulum, and the more it goes in one direction, the farther it goes in the other. If Obama and Congress ignore the needs of the middle and right of this country, that pendulum will swing far right, far more than any of us want, including conservatives. It may take 20 years, but I shudder at the thought of that happening. - Chris Mayer
Hopefully Obama can bring the parties together. His speech the day before the election was a unifying speech. I'm more and more impressed with his (his speech writers') speeches and his prescence. Still haven't seen anything cool in his policies (same-old same-old), but hoping for a great 100 days! - Mitchell Tsai

Don't really understand how Arrington could be designated "on FriendFeed". He never participates -- just broadcasts. Others at least participate in the conversation. I would question how he could make your list at all let alone at number 1. - Brian Sullivan
Of interest, none of the links work, as they are embedded with fastcompany.com followed by HTTP. - Louis Gray
@Brian: I guess this is a list of top tech people who happen to have accounts on FriendFeed (so you can follow that they read), as opposed to top tech people who actively participate on FF. Although some of the people on his list are very active here like Louis, Duncan, and MG Siegler. - Jess Lee
Maybe one of the "tech experts" knows some HTML..? ;-) - Sprague D
does it still count as a pageview for fastcompany? :-) - Gregory Lent
Jess -- maybe Robert's post should be titled "Robert Scoble's 10 Favorite Tech Experts who happen to have accounts on FriendFeed" ? - Brian Sullivan
It's Monday, Robert needed a post, and for hits, it has to be a post involving a list. Ergo, pick 10 people, one of whom has never, to the best of my knowledge, posted a single thing to FriendFeed that wasn't done by his bot, leave off all women (hello? Kara? Orli? Orli has participated more this week than Arrington has done in FF's entire existence), and once again, stirs the proverbial sh*t on FriendFeed. At some point, if people dont' come up with something to talk about on FriendFeed BESIDES politics... - Cyndy
... and FriendFeed, the whole thing will just wink out of existence. - Cyndy
Very useful matching of names to enterprises for those who don't know. - Sean McBride
*wankwankwank* *waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaankwankwankwank* *wank* - abacab
Seriously, this is the top 10? How about Mike Fruchter? How about Mona? Where is Rob Diana? How about a list of people who aren't already established web personalities (although Louis Gray does deserve his place on the list)? - Mark Wilson
Um, what about Leo Laporte? - Thankful Molly
hey, the guy is busy, he writes a lot, and writes fast, who cares if he missed a couple of tech yo-yos ... they are his favorites of the moment - Gregory Lent
These are the people FriendFeed itself tells me I liked the most. - Robert Scoble
Which person on the list has probably had the greatest impact on the Internet? Probably Dave Winer, with RSS. - Sean McBride
I wanna believe that I m the 11th. : )) - Erhan Erdogan
+10 to Brian and Cyndy - Shey
Most probably I'm missing something (or I have a different definition for tech expert), but some of them have nothing to do with technology. Anyways, it is a good Monday post to generate traffic. - Alex Popescu
wink out of exisitence, certainly, sooner or later - Gregory Lent
Alex: which ones don't have anything to do with technology? Seems like a pretty safe soft-tech list. And let me add my generic feigned outrage thinly veiling my jealousy of not being on a top ten list here. - Mark Trapp
@Mark You already made my top 10 FriendFeed list, what more could you ask for? :P http://www.sheysmith.com/2008/... - Shey
Mark: IMO there is a big difference between being a tech expert and living around technology. I fail to see how a PR, social media, etc. person is a tech expert. - Alex Popescu
Several of those people are very active on FriendFeed. Arrington shows up because so many people read TechCrunch. Mark Wilson, thanks for the mention, but I am not sure if my name can be mentioned in a top 10 list that includes some of those folks. - Rob Diana
Not even going to bother looking at this list after the previous one that was completely without filter and a little ridiculous. Will probably feel the need to diss it because I will disagree when I have no right to - it's his favorite list and all power to him. - Kamath ॐ
I love web 2.0. It's the one era you can wake up and decide you're an expert in something, even if you have no real track record beforehand, or if you do and nobody knew about it/no recognizable proof, etc. :) - Patricia
I'd suggest that no list of any topic of any length by any person will be agreeable to all. And don't let my PR/Marketing background fool you. I'm all tech, all day long. :-) - Louis Gray
Patricia, come on over here and sit next to me. I won't for a second pretend that I could architect something like Facebook, but I have forgotten more about development than certain people ever knew. I'm waiting for a "return to basics" mentality to prevail. - Cyndy
I'm declaring myself an expert on experts. :) - Patricia
thanks for the love robert! - MG Siegler
No surprises here, it's always the same people. - Amit Morson
Not sure what the problem is the title of the article says "Robert Scoble's Favorite," so that's what it is, his favorites. It's kind of clear that his favorite may not be your favorite. And it's who he considers a tech authority, which my also come under a different definition and categorization than your own. Like Shey and Sarah, and oh so many others, just add your favorites in your own list, or even here. - Lynne d Johnson
Lynne -- there is no problem that I can see. Robert writes posts so that others read, comment and discuss. I think that is what we are doing? - Brian Sullivan
@Brian Sullivan - of course. It just seemed that people were taking this one quite personally. - Lynne d Johnson

“i hate clicking on somebody's link in twitter and getting sent to bleeping friendfeed .. it feels like a manipulation from friendfeed to get an extra page view .. eff that ... i learn to distrust certain twitter users, and there is nothing good about this ... get rid of the effing middle-man please”
November 2 at 6:36 am - Link
What would you rather? Everyone has to make money, and I'd rather see FF than Digg...... - Aaron Krug
it makes me value some twitter users less .. why burden me with extra clicks for the sake of your money .. and digg has become a joke not worth visiting, with a manipulation mentality similar to what you are suggesting .. not sure it was friendfeed's intention, or quick and dirty code to get the functionality for posting to twitter from ff ... it wastes my time .. you don't mind? - Gregory Lent
technically, when you see "this tweet was posted from FriendFeed" next to the Tweet, that should be marketing enough. At the same time, the link could be added value when there's a conversation going on, and those are usually better in FriendFeed. It's a tough situation, for sure. In the end, it's a limitation of Twitter more (by not allowing for embedded links for example) than FriendFeed (even though that has something of the same limitation) - Vincent van Wylick
totally disagree! FF is a great service and deserves extra clicks for self-promo! everything else would be stupid! - Dieter Schwarz
@Dieter this is not a pool party with your mates so get over the 'clicks for mates' syndrome. @Gregory you are totally right but unfortunately @Vincent makes a smart and valid argument as to why we spend more time in this pickle than we (you and I) likely would otherwise. Twitter needs to build out their feature set more, but we can all agree on that. I keep waiting for OAuth myself. - Roger Kondrat
dieter .. lol .. a fan, i see ... me, i don't want to waste time .. say i click on 10 links a day .. if i have a slow connection, that is doubling my waiting time .. i lose respect for friendfeed - Gregory Lent
@Roger "clicks for mates" is what keeps us all in business - it´s a valid "marketing syndrome" ;) - Dieter Schwarz
it is the implicit message that many marketers don't understand .. the marketer is being selfish at my expense, and sooner or later, i am gone ... the time for that is over .. serve me, i will use you, use me, i will leave you - Gregory Lent
I hate following someone on Twitter, and instantly getting links to their commercial web sites. It's rude, dude. At least make conversation first. Oh too late. I unfollowed you, just as quick. - Ian May
@Dieter its not valid, its unethical and its undesireable behaviour that inflates traffic and diminishes the return an advertiser gets which is bad for everyone including the ad seller. - Roger Kondrat
well - this is not about ethics, being selfish or any other religion... it´s about business...bringing traffic to your service is unethical? ok...i see... - Dieter Schwarz
if you manipulate me for your gain dieter, it only has short term value, long term it guarantees a fail .. look at wall street in america - Gregory Lent
Actually, it is less sinister than you imply; it was a feature request a lot of users had - they wanted to be able to filter by service more easily. Your point is taken though. - Bret Taylor
thanks bret, glad you stopped by - Gregory Lent
@Dieter I don't think we were talking about someone driving traffic to their site or have I missed the convo here. Its about people linking to their site as a pass through to another site e.g. Twitter - FF - Info. That has been on the hate list for years. It became popular once on Digg when guys there made clips on their blog & then submitted to Digg. This practice hurt relationships with your potential customer because it is irritating. Believe me choosing not to do it IS good business. - Roger Kondrat
Bret is amazingly on top of things @ FF - very cool! - Susan Beebe
@Bret I don't think anyone is saying anything is sinister at least not me. Its just a discussion about a specific instance and that certain behaviour may not be positive. I could be wrong but that is how I came into this convo. - Roger Kondrat
from above... "not sure it was friendfeed's intention, or quick and dirty code to get the functionality for posting to twitter from ff ... (but) it wastes my time .." - Gregory Lent
The new FriendFeed landings serve a needed purpose. We FF users want to be able to have our FF activity show up on Twitter. - Mike Reynolds
Ah, yes, I misunderstood. We are going to add that as an option. Some people wanted to link back to FF to get to the conversation, but that is clearly annoying in some cases. I will keep you all posted. - Bret Taylor
Gregory, I replied in the other thread, but if you see→ ff.im as the link shortener, it's coming here. Sometimes I just take note, and join the conv later if I want to stay on Twitter. - Ed Shaz/NextInstinct
and a lot of the world has slow connections, so making double clicks to get to a link is cruel !! :-) - Gregory Lent
I see that Bret has already chimed in so I'll make my comment brief: The way I see FF to twitter publishing is not so much as a link to the source, but a link to a discussion. The discussion on FF is the value-add. Otherwise, I sort of agree with you Gregory that it's more annoying than say, ping.fm. - Phil Glockner
yeah, i love my friends for their links, and to have to delay that with another click, well, i said it already .. enjoy, all - Gregory Lent
FWIW, I've been publishing my FriendFeed to Twitter since Friday, I haven't had any complaints, I've gotten some positive feedback, and I still have the same number of followers I did on Friday. So I'd say FF's behavior is having no negative impact on my Twitter experience, or that of the people following me. I'm more concerned about publishing links back to FriendFeed comments (like this one). - Mitch Wagner
I lost one Twitter follower during my 3 day FF-to-Twitter tenure, but that's probably because of the political content with my messages in recent days. Completely understood. - Mike Reynolds
I wrote a background script that does back linking differently based on various criteria. e.g. If I post an external link to FF and add a comment, my twitter stream gets my comment and a link back to the original website. That way discussion can go on simultaneously on Twitter and on FF. I'm trying out the new FF feature but am inclined to go back to the script. If you'd like to use the script, search for ff2tweet. - samgrover
I see no problem with this. If you see the short url and the comment being originated on FF, then don't click on it. - Alejandro S.
