You can now get a daily or weekly email digest for anybody's feed on FriendFeed. You'll get a daily or weekly email with the most popular posts from that person's feed. To get the email, click the "Email/IM" link at the top of anyone's feed, and select the "Best of day" or "Best of week" email option.
Thanks to Kevin for doing a great design for what turned out to be a more complex set of UI options than we had originally anticipated, and thanks to Tudor for implementing the email backend.
- Bret Taylor
I now get the FriendFeed Feedback posts as a Best of Day email so it doesn't fill up my feed, but I don't miss feedback. I also set up a "Best of Day" email for my "Technology people" friend list so I get a pretty good overview of tech news every day via email.
- Bret Taylor
This is a really cool idea Bret, I wish you can make that an RSS feed option as well. I'd be much more likely to read summaries in RSS than in email.
- manielse (Mark Nielsen)
Casey: Thanks for the tip. What's the 7 before the "?" mean in the URL? The number of likes or replies needed to be included?
- manielse (Mark Nielsen)
this is killer, the random influx of email during the day was kinda getting fail-ish. I love the daily digest.
- Drew Lucas
Very cool! Any way to get archives of previous months? (especially helpful for those of us who leave the internet for weeks at a time...)
- Mitchell Tsai
Just curious - at what time of the day will we get these emails ? Midnight US-Time, or will it respect our timezones ?
- Ahsan Ali
Ahsan: it is somewhat random right now when the emails are sent, but we built in the backend capability to control what time they are sent, and we plan on exposing that control to users in the future. Right now, it is kind of random - sorry!
- Bret Taylor
But what exactly is "Best"? Is it anything that has a certain number of likes/comments?
- Laura Norvig
@Bret LOL THAT WAS MY PROJECT! I will release it tomorrow. But you've also did it and killed my friendfeed application **sigh** But mine has multi-reporting weekly-daily-monthly at the same time and adjustable entry count!
- Alp
@Bret please consolidate me or I won't code new apps with you api! :-)
- Alp
Alp: we were not trying to withhold data. Later today the documentation will be updated to reflect the ability to obtain "Best of" for users. The feed id will be USERNAME/summary/N (similar to "Best of" for lists)
- Benjamin Golub
Hi Ben, that is pretty funny, I tried that URL earlier today to see if it has been secretly released :)
- Paul Kinlan
Bret: While Twitter struggle to keep their fail whale under control, you guys are developing stuff like this. Amazing - Thanks!
- Jim Connolly
awesome feature, this will be highly useful for my corporate group ideas / content sharing; projects, etc.... THANK YOU :)
- Susan Beebe
Great work. I especially like that it works on lists too.
- Meryn Stol
my inbox might say different, but I like that :-)
- Dobromir Hadzhiev
Wow, this is really neat! And it links into the idea I expressed earlier, re: reducing signup friction / enabling limited guest privileges. Imagine if I could embed one of my FF rooms on my personal web site, and enable people to subscribe to that feed by e-mail with just a couple of clicks... rather than saying "you can get e-mail notifications but you have to sign up for Friendfeed first." "sign up" -- though admirably lightweight on FF -- is still a huge barrier.
- Adam Lasnik
is there a love button cause I dont like this option I LOVE this option..great work guys
- (jeff)isageek
Three options I would like (1) Can I select "top 100" instead of "top 30"? (2) Could I select both "best of day" and "best of week"? (3) How about older timeperiods? I'd love to get an e-mail with stuff from last week or Mar 2009? Start & end dates? Anything to help me read FriendFeed off-line would be great since I spend long periods off-line at festivals (especially during summer time) or overseas. - Awesome job guys!
- Mitchell Tsai
So this works on groups too, cool! But we still cannot see Best of for groups on the site on friends lists. :-( I have several friends lists that include just groups and when I select to view the best of the page it's empty (even though if I got to the individual best of for those groups there are entries there).
- Kol Tregaskes
does anyone know of a web service that can do this? (I'm thinking weekly email updates of my favorite feeds/people) I don't think there's anything like friendfeed ..
- Friendfeed's Francisco
I still haven't met a FF application I could stand to use for more than a few minutes.

I saw an early alpha of the iPhone app. Looked good. I also saw an early alpha of Seesmic web and the way it advanced between the alpha and launch was dramatic - so I expect the iPhone client will track the same way.

Robert that's really great. I definitely will consider switching back when the Seesmic iPhone app arrives.
- Vinko
Will get me,too, switched back to using Seesmic ;) Looking forward to hear from Loic soon

This might just tempt me away from Tweetdeck...
- Andrew Terry
If they add friendfeed to the web app, I'll maybe use it instead of PeopleBrowsr. But then again, peoplebrowsr has implemented friendfeed in a very good way already.
- Svartling
You gotta keep an eye on Yahoo homepage. They have FB integration and someday may integrate Twitter (they have the 'what are you doing now'). Seesmic is way ahead, but Yahoo has mainstream adoption
- Jeremiah Owyang
Jeremiah, I agree. The new Yahoo homepage is impressive.
- Steve Rubel
from email
Im not sure it's impressive, as it's evolutionary, not revolutionary. When Wave comes out, it could dash the shine that Yahoo has.
- Jeremiah Owyang
Where do I sign up! I'm praying your web app will make my life of FF, FB, Twitter ETC more manageable!!!!! W/out crashing my puters AND still let me see my Home feeds!
- Arleen Boyd
I'm thinking that this is the type of post that would be good reason for FriendFeed to have a "Love" click option next to the "Like" click option so that we can register better levels of our emotion towards news we read in others' streams!

huh...I tried both and neither gave a 'did you mean....' Why the difference?
- George Gray
George, this was from earlier. I think it's probably been fixed by now.
- Thomas Hawk
I can't reproduce the results either. Even more proof that Google's damage control department works real f-a-s-t
- BLOGBloke
I can reproduce these results (as it's fake). 1 - Do a google search for 'balck people stole my car' 2 - when the results come back, in the search box type 'white people stole my car'. 3 - Screenshot and fool everyone.
- Will Higgins™
Thomas...ah...I was catching up on my feed and didn't notice when the message posted. Still, I have noticed different results when using Google from: the browser search bar, going right to google.com and when logged into google via iGoogle. Weird.

I learned about this because of Janis Krum's blog. He was the guy who took the photo of today's plane crash and posted it to Twitter. Very inspirational. The guy has done amazing things, and I definitely get the message - right up until he starts in with the evangelism. Is it just possible he could have achieved the same things on his own - or with a support system that didn't carry the Jesus branding?
- Auntie Buttinsky Botts
Mary, I don't think it is a matter of Jesus "branding", it is his testimony, it is a genuine explanation of how he's been able to overcome his circumstances. I don't think Nick would be the man he is today if he would have "done it on his own"
- Kelly Johns
Tears in my coffee cup. Good way to start a day of opportunities for those with more. To whom much is given, much is expected. Thanks for sharing...awesome.
- Carl
Kelly, I suspect you're right. Especially since he's a preacher's kid. And I really do get that it can take a huge spiritual foundation to overcome big obstacles. But just once I'd like to see an inspirational story that doesn't turn out to be a lead-in to a Christianity message. Are we - as a culture - as Americans under the First Amendment - saying that nobody can overcome great obstacles who is not a Christian?
- Auntie Buttinsky Botts
Let's see some examples of great inspiration from the secular world - or the other religious and spiritual traditions. For instance - Stephen Hawking has lived decades longer than anyone with ALS normally would.
- Auntie Buttinsky Botts
Mary, Please rewatch this video, no where was this pushing a Christian message. I heard God, witnessing God. I believe this was more a faith in God, which is not exclusive to Christians. :)
- Janet-The Bottley Crue
True. I made the mistake of watching a second video. And - the language in the first video is the lexicon of the Christian brand: witnessing, faith, God's plan. Witnessing and the idea of God's plan for a person or a community don't exist in, for example, Judaism, and the concept of faith in Judaism is rather nebulous, at least in the Reform tradition.
- Auntie Buttinsky Botts
Just saw this post randomly. Hope things are well.
- Janis Krums
Friendfeed has far juicer discussions, debates, and examples of 'civil discource' compared to the rapid fire trading of information in twitter, or 'longer form' content of blogs. The Three bears: "aaaah just right"
Well, one must admit threads can get long & tedious. And trolls are sometimes a problem, but, totally agree w/juicier discussion! ;-)
- Barbara K. Baker
My old strategy have been: longtailing (often gets commentary months after a post and it can re-ignite the discussion) = blogs, noteblocking (commentaries less but is somewhat a way to discus bout an topic that isn't mine but something I have found)=tumblr and shorthand-firing it up (discussion heaten up but dies after an hour or a day and never is shown again) =Jaiku. But after this weekend with Jaiku down Friendfeed is a beacon and I haven't missed Jaiku.
- Niclas Strandh
Glen: FriendFeed is cool because every post can become a discussion spot. The down side is 1,000,000s of "spots" which never get much discussion. It does suck that until you reach some critical-awareness (or "group" of followers) that no one comments or likes your posts unless you get a FofF effect from someone liking/commenting your item. I don't think it's on purpose. Just no one here can follow everything... Join active threads/spots and post good stuff...eventually people may discover you.
- Mitchell Tsai
@Glen Campbell (glenc): I have hope that the more I respond (intelligently, which admittedly is a stretch for me) to the posts of others, the more my own posts will receive responses. I know that I need to do better than I have been doing with my own posts. I can't say I know the experiences of others.
- MiniMage, enterRUPPted
from NoiseRiver
"eventually people may discover you" - this is a little like the web in general, isn't it? If you want to hurry along the process then doing what @MiniMage suggests is good advice @Glen Campbell.

"Recent disclosures of Carter's extensive financial connections to Arab oil money, particularly from Saudi Arabia, had deeply shaken my belief in his integrity. When I was first told that he received a monetary reward in the name of Shiekh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahayan, and kept the money, even after Harvard returned money from the same source because of its anti-Semitic history, I simply did not believe it.How could a man of such apparent integrity enrich himself with dirty money from so dirty a source?"

The Energizer Health Care Bill ....it keeps growingand gro and growing and growing..... 11/4/2009 - squareonemedia on Blog Talk Radio
#killbill - http://www.blogtalkradio.com/squareo...
eeeeyeah, the bill is growing, and that is (of course) a problem. not, however, as big a problem comparatively as the rate by which insurance is hiking their profits & exec salaries at the expense of recipients - both financially and to the detriment of their health. killbill? no effing way, brah...but you have fun.
- Prosey BUTTONS!
Get your facts straight, insurance companies operate on a very small profit margin. They make even less money than railroads, cleaning product manufacturers and restaurants! http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_otfwl2...
- pitlord
I once worked for an oil company that never turned a profit, funny how that works, Fact is that insurance companies make outrageous profits, they just know how to shield it.
- Rene, Pro Button Pusher
There we agree. But, I also know how to make a big profit "disappear", so it looks like the margins are really slim and this typically how companies that generate huge amounts of profits (oil ompanies, insurance companies, banks, investment banks, pharmaceutics) operate. Everyone knows that. If you really believe that insruance companies really operate on a small margin you are delusional.
- Rene, Pro Button Pusher
The same accounting tricks are available to every industry. That doesn't change the insurance businesses' ranking on the list.
- pitlord
David, I used to work inside an HMO...I don't need to read any blog to know what the profit margins are. Nor am I remotely interested in what you're calling "facts" here - having experienced the reality first-hand.
- Prosey BUTTONS!
Further, you're also forgetting another little lovely item known casually as monopoly. One facet of health care reform is breaking up the only industry that is exempt from anti-trust laws. We're not aiming to put private insurance companies out of business. The idea on that count is to level the playing field. It's yet another facet of this discussion where your "facts" are skewed.
- Prosey BUTTONS!
By all means, share with us your inside information about the insurance business. The problem is that a private company, like an insurance company, has a legal fiduciary duty to make a profit. They have no reason to hide their profit margins, if they are making money they crow about it from the highest rooftops to attract more investors. So show us how and why they are hiding profits from their investors.
- pitlord
As for a monopoly. How can any of them have a monopoly when they aren't even allowed to operate accross state lines? In fact, how can their be a "monopoly" when we refer to them in the plural? Doesn't that imply there is more than one of them? If you are so against a monopoly how would you feel about the government operated monopoly like the one Obama and his supporters are trying to...

Rene, you got that backwards the government is not allowed to impose political beliefs on religious institutions. Religious belief is inherent in the law. Otherwise, the founders would never have recognized The Divine Creator in our founding documents you dumbass.

Pitlord, you may be right, but you don't help anything with the whole "dumbass" comment. Rene, "vile ilk" makes you sound like a sore winner to me. For the majority of my voting life, I have registered as a Republican. Right now, the law-making "ball" is so entirely in your court, it astounds me that your "ilk" waste time worrying about what my "ilk" even think, as you don't need a single Conservative or Republican to go along with you in order to get anything your hearts' desire passed as law right now.

That's the great thing about this country. Idiots like you don't get to tell people like me how to think or what to say. If I want to thank G-d for making me a free man in a free country it is my G-d given right and there isn't a damn thing you can do to stop me. If you don't like it there are plenty of g-dless, radical, left-wing countries that would be happy to have you (or maybe not so happy). I hear liberals rave about Cuba. That's a place you might want to consider. ><
- pitlord
But, maybe you're right. Maybe, you aren't one of G-d's creations. In fact, it's more likely that you evolved from some accumulation of matter in the corner of a glue factory.
- pitlord
You absolutely have the right to believe what you choose. You do not have the right to encroach on others' rights just because they don't share those beliefs. And others have the right to mock you for your stupidity as much as they choose - because mocking is not telling you what to think. Creationism as you define it is a regurgitation of other, far older myths. So before you call anyone else an idiot, maybe you might want to consider that you're a case of de-evolution. Generally the result of inbreeding.
- Prosey BUTTONS!
How many Tea Party members were able to rally against Fed GOV because RETIRED receiving Social Security and Medicare? Hypoctes or just plain dumb?

*LOL* @Denise. You are correct: if one claims to be dog's creation, one can only be if there was inbreeding. Or, otherwise, one member has peed outside the pot and everyone is contaminated with imperfection. Flawless logic. Then again, David doesn't strike me as the kind of person who can think logically. Frankly, I don't think he thinks at all, he's just a spambot.

Oh the irony of misusing the word "fringe" Conservatism is a majority, and growing. A fringe is the small edge of something larger. But don't worry, I'll wait til you leave, or are made irrelevant. But just in case there's any confusion, I still vote every chance I get, both by absentee in the U.S. and every time it's legal for me to do so in Spain and Europe.
- midnightgolfer
What you're describing, midnightgolfer, is not conservatism in any true sense. Intelligent conservatism died a long time ago. What you're describing is neoconservatism, which is one of the most dangerous movements in this country - and if you're a part of it, then you will share your burden of blame in the undoing of your "claimed" party. Period. Wake up and smell the stupid. People like you are definitely trying to take this country back...to some place pre-WWI era.
- Prosey BUTTONS!
What exactly did I describe? other than to state that Dem's and "liberals" have all they need right now to pass any bill into law that they'd like, no matter what opposition would like? Oh, and to show displeasure at ad hominem attacks?
- midnightgolfer
*rolls eyes* "Conservatism is a majority and growing" is what you said specifically. That is patently false. Genuine conservatism still exists in some individuals, but as a "group" it is dead. What is growing is the teabaggers. That's all. Further, Dems & "liberals" are not synonymous - anymore than Reps and "conservatives". If you're American, then you wouldn't know what a real liberal was if one came up and slapped you across the face. It's nothing to do with party.

Okay, so you interpret it the way you wish, and I will interpret it the way I wish, and we'll both act on our own interpretations, and stop wasting time arguing about differences of opinion, and move forward. Thanks for the momentary fun.
- midnightgolfer
If my guess is correct, then you're surrounded by like-minded folks with whom you work...and it bubbles into a nice little echo chamber to what you want to interpret it. That's all. ;) And acting on interpretations simply means voting the way our respective consciences dictate -- which is perfectly fine, no matter how we disagree. Given the time there, let go of the momentary fun and get some rest. :)

To be totally honest, I work graveyard, and am on a break, that went a little long ;-) I truly wish you were right about being surrounded by like-minded folk. I am surrounded by overly-sensitive people I have to make a conscious effort not to offend with my opinions, and online is one of the only places I get to speak so openly, without immediate confrontation. Also, I'm better at defending myself in English than in Spanish.

You said, "Again you make false claims that people are "dying and losing coverage" with absolutely nothing to support your claims" -- coming back to that thought since you actually are stupid enough to believe you "trounced" my arguments. The association between death and lack of health coverage is firmly established - and here is a very recent article about that-...

Wow, I'm flattered that you created a whole blog post for me. Too bad your just totally wrong. It's funny which part of the definitions for "monopoly" you chose to include in your little post. Here's the full definition from your first source: "A situation in which a single company owns all or nearly all of the market for a given type of product or service. This would happen in the case...

Another note on lack of insurance, the studies you liberals cite to show that the "uninsured" are dying are completely false and based on fake numbers. http://www.john-goodman-blog.com/does-la...

Regardless of your personal opinions about insurance, the government does not have the authority to force us to purchase health insurance. http://www.cnsnews.com/news...

But let me highlight a few of your more intelligent comments: "You like that because you're a "proud American" and are too stupid to realize that their methodology operates AGAINST free market (capitalistic) principles." *laughing merrily* Leave it to a moron like you to mix and match two different blog entries to try to justify yourself without actually addressing any of the issues of either directly. "Run Forest Run" seems to be typical of you. You got *one* thing right, though...where you just said "...did NOT prevent the patient from obtaining the procedure." Nothing stopped those patients from...

I'm glad you can come up with such creative names for me, "moron" is sooooo original. Obviously you didn't bother to look at the links I posted which debunk your facetious claims that anybody is dying from "underinsurance." Where are all the starving Americans who've been thrown to the gutter because they couldn't afford a medical procedure? I'm sure your employers and their clients are...

You're not worthy of "creative" names, David. Moron will do just fine. And you have a VERY short memory. I provided you with a link AGES ago regarding a first-hand account -- but since you've seen fit to pretend that I never gave you that info, here you go. Again. http://www.progressivefox.com/... Golly, I guess the lady in there who is referring to the methods that doctors and...

I've tolerated you for about as long as I care to. You & I will never have a reasonable discussion, though not for my lack of trying to. You're not worth anyone's attempt at reasonable discussion...and I am just finished with you. You are...as of this post...blocked. You're too stupid to realize what a fucking tool you are, and I don't have the patience to deal with your ignorance on a...

David C Cooper (aka pitlord): do yourself a favor and emigrate to Isreal, preferrably Jerusalem, inner city, you fucking shameless piece of shit excuse for a human being. It is clear to anyone paying attention that Obamacare would result in the same exact situation with government...

Another brilliant argument from Rene Wirtz! Your wife's debate tactics are severely lacking in credibility thanks to her emotional responses and ad hominem attacks. Funny, the same can be said of her husband. LOL and you two call me a moron? >.>

Because you are one. It's plain for everyone to see. And your debate tacticsare overshadowed by my wife's, thank you very much, but again, you won't know a good debate if it kicked you in the head. Now kindly go fuck yourself!

Besides, I don't mind being wrong, I am wrong quite often and I have no compunction about saying so, You on the other hand, are holier than the pope, claiming to have dog, thus the truth by your side. This makes you an ignorant fool, a waste of space. And it is scared, petty, small-minded people like you who are destroying the US, not the other way around. But I guess, since you are a...
