Law needs some refactoring. Some of these rights appear to be intended to help people rearing children, help people who are supporting another person who is rearing children, and others to designate a person with authority over your person in emergencies and after death. Marriage is not necessary but sufficient for most of these. Then there are the ways that marriage cannot be recognized by the law, the religious reasons. Of course, "family zoning", no doubt is intended by some to keep gay people out of their idyllic neighborhood, but that's just an attack on freedom. It would be a shame to be a hypocritical patriot, eh? - Kris Kowal
