So, yeah, here's one guitar I'm looking at buying... let me know what you all feel about it. DESCRIPTION: "I've got (original owner) a wonderful sounding and good looking Fender DG-11 SB 6 string guitar in sunburst glossy finish. This was my first acoustic guitar and it's served me wonderfully as I've taken good care of it. I've moved onto an amplified acoustic and no longer need this one and want it to go to a good home. It's the perfect guitar if you are just learning - was for me! In addition to the guitar I've got a shoulder strap and a soft case / gig bag (minor scuff marks) that is slightly padded with an exterior pocket and backpack styled shoulder straps. I also still have the spare bridge, peg and neck wrench for adjusting the truss with instructional sheet. And finally - since I don't know how long the strings have been on it (which still sound good anyway), I've got a spare set of Martin 80/20 bronze light gauge strings I've thrown in. Oh - yeah - and a quick release style black capo too (as

Dunno. I used to play trumpet, so I'm useless here.
- Steven Perez
$100 doesn't sound bad (this is it right: http://chicago.craigslist.org/nwc...). The guy should put the new strings on it before you look at it. New strings will make a ton of difference in the sound. If you're just starting this is probably a decent deal...but play it to make sure you can live with it until you step up.
- Justin
TOTALLY A BEGINNER - Taken a few lessons from a friend, but I'm serious about wanting to play, so I want to get my own. @Justin - yeah, that's the one! This guy also has this one listed: http://chicago.craigslist.org/nwc... I've never played a 3/4 size guitar...

Oh, and to answer your 2nd ?, Spidra, I'm just looking for a good one to learn/practice on... Don't want to spend a lot of money but want the best I can get, ya know? My brother has a cheaper guitar and I don't like playing it - the strings seem harder than normal to press down, among other things.
- .k.t.c.l.i.n.g.
Here's the TG-4 new: http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product... - $200. And here's the DG11 - http://www.musiciansnews.com/guitars... $200. So it looks like they're roughly the same caliber of guitar from Fender. The travel guitar might be an easier scale to start on, but eventually you may want a full size. I'd start full size....but that's just me. Spidra has great advice...query the Guitar room. I'm new to FF, didn't know that room
- Justin
THanks - I sent out a message to one of the rooms, but they all look like they haven't had much activity. I'm kinda torn on which of the two I like better... I'm 5'4" and have pretty average sized hands... for my height I guess. I don't know if they'd be considered "small." I know the 3/4 might be easier at first but you're right - I'd probably want a full size later anyway. Plus, the full sized one comes with a little more 'accessories'... Plus, I like the finish on it better!!

Anyone else wanna pitch in their thoughts? :-P
- .k.t.c.l.i.n.g.
Aw, come on peeps, I KNOW there are more of you out there who play guitar! :-P Good buy or no, for a beginner's 1st guitar?
- .k.t.c.l.i.n.g.
So I'm finally doing something I've always wanted to do - learn guitar!!! I found a few listings on Craigslist but would like 'second' opinions on whether or not they're good buys. Can anyone give me advice?? THANKS! =D

To make things easier this Christmas, how about I just ask for a Border's STORE instead?! :P Every time I open my email, I find new coupons from Border's Rewards, and new books/dvds to put on my wishlist! What are some of your favorite books/movies??
Seriously - try it. I know people who HATE bleu cheese but like this, so don't let that deter you. Also, DON'T use fat-free/reduced fat bleu cheese dressing - it funks with the flavor a lot. I find a 1/2 recipe of this feeds me and a friend or two nicely.

You too, Katie, Hope you had a good Christmas?

"There's a fine, fine line between a lover and a friend." - Avenue Q. Sometimes I wish that line were a little skinnier between me and a certain person... Will anyone ever love me, truly madly deeply??
Took me till I was 26 to find the right person. Patience.

Not to be a downer, rather a reality check: I'm almost 55 and still looking. I've learned to be my own best friend first while keeping an eye out for the best friend who can become a mate. If it never happens, I've still had good friends along the way, and I still have me.

Good News: I don't have to go in to work today... whoohoo!! Bad News: I'm out counting cars... yay... :-| Well, it's *basically* like day off... In honor of my mindless 'job' today, I'd like to ask all of you - what's the most pointless/mindless/stupid thing you've ever had to do for YOUR job??
If we're talking about ever, it's a tie between picking green peppers and matching negatives to photos.
- FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
I asked my boss if I could only count the red ones... He said that might mess up their traffic study. :'( But I get the cool new-school counter, which beeps like a fake Nintendo Gameboy when you push the buttons!

For my last job I had to grade standardized test. All I had to do was select 1,2,3,4 and hit enter. For seven f-ing hours!
- Mathew™ one of a kind
I had to reset the password on 1000 active directory accounts. Boring? Oh yes.
- Todd Hoff
If ever, I used to do Internet Tech Support... which is pretty mindless. In this job I had to provision, partition and format 60TB of storage, which ended up being 2 hours of up-enter and then stare while the partition formatted....

I'm a highly paid Cut and Paste artist at this job...that's mindless

If you’re thinking McLeod, you couldn’t be further from the truth. What you have to do is think small; not microscopic, just big enough to see with your naked eye. Turritopsis nutricula is a hydrozoan, and it’s considered by scientists to be the only animal that cheated death.
- .k.t.c.l.i.n.g.
Solitary organisms are (according to current belief) doomed to die, after they completed their life cycle. Hydrozoa are a huge class of predatory animals that live mostly in saltwater, closely related to jellyfish and corals. Eggs and sperm from an adult jellyfish (medusa) and they then develop into polyp stage. Medusae evolve asexually from polyps. Still, our Turritopsis nutricula...

Wowzers - I haven't been on FF in ages! Sorry friends, lol, I've been wrapped up in work/being sick/completely devouring quite a few books [I <3 Charlaine Harris, btw...] Promise to be on more!! :-P
Highly recommend the following book: Dead Until Dark by Charlaine Harris. Its the 1st book in a series about Sookie Stackhouse - a waitress in a small Louisiana town who can read minds and falls in love with a vampire. Very good series. The HBO show TrueBlood is based of it. :)

What's the difference between striving to be the best person you can be, and being a perfectionist? I was thinking about this earlier, and I'm perplexed.
Agreed, Zee. It's one thing to be the best you can be, maximizing your strengths and minimizing -- but also accepting -- areas of weakness, but it's another thing entirely to have everything so completely perfect that it drives you mad.
- Jared Smith
As a perfectionist, you will always be bummed - you are never pefect. :-)
- Stephen Pierzchala
To me, striving to be the best person you can be implies awareness of your limits and imperfections and those of others. Perfectionists generally don't have that awareness
- Imabug
A perfectionist does not recover as well from mistakes.
- Josh Haley
True, Josh. And a perfectionist is often a micro-manager, and is far less capable of seeing the big picture. A perfectionist gets hung up on the one misspelled word, rather than the amazing 200,000-word novel.
- Ladybug Heather
I thought I was a perfectionist, until I read this thread. I just strive to be the best person that I can be.
- Alan Le
A perfectionist is one who's drive to match a mental projection with reality greatly overshadows sufficiency and reasonable effort. Healthy perfectionists work to mitigate the collateral damage, unhealthy ones can not or will not to the detriment of many, not the least of which are themselves.
- Micah Wittman
Perhaps another way to say it: Perfectionists can't bear to make mistakes; those who strive to be their best learn from their mistakes.
- Ladybug Heather
A perfectionist thinks they're a perfectionist, but isn't sure whether they're good enough or not. </tongue-in-cheek>
- Scott of Two Countries
Great, thanks peeps! I've been pondering this awhile, and although I know there is a difference, I couldn't for the life of me define it. Isn't it funny though, how perfectionism has a negative connotation with it?
- .k.t.c.l.i.n.g.
probably because perfectionism is rather looked upon as obsessive behaviour rather than a good trait to have.

Wow, I've been so busy I haven't been at my computer, but what exactly have I accomplished today? Pretty much nothing. :-)
Nothing wrong with getting jumped every now and then.
- Andrew Trinh
LOL - the guy who 'jumped' me was my brother... Eewww... Although, I do have some cute coworkers I wouldn't mind jumping me if things aren't revving up after work... ;)
- .k.t.c.l.i.n.g.
Wow, I'm actually busy at work! I feel guilty though that I can't 'hang' with the FF crew today [especially since I'm so new!]! Just wanted to stop by and say "hi!"
You inspire us all....to attempt to be productive.
- Josh Haley
I probably look like a fool at the office, trying to walk - I SEVERELY jammed my toe, plus I have sore/stiff leg muscles from working out... It's okay, laugh at my expense, glad I made someone's day, lol!!
