My friend has a crazy fear of the little blonde girl that used to do the Welch's juice commercials years ago. Said she had "sharp pointy teeth that she used to eat your soul." I'm totally posting this on his FB wall. XD
- Haggis (Sean Loyless)
It actually looks like something is going to pop out of her forehead and eat my computer.
- .k.t.c.l.i.n.g.
my advice...don't stare at her too long... O_O
- Live4Emma (L4S)
Oh crap, I did and I got a phone call and someone said "7 days". Should I be worried?
- Haggis (Sean Loyless)
...I can't look away... I think she's sucking away my soul!
- .k.t.c.l.i.n.g.
haggis, ummm worry...and look for standing water near your computer...
- Live4Emma (L4S)
.k.t.c.l.i.n.g.....does your soul taste like apple juice? o_O
- Live4Emma (L4S)
Thanks! I'd love to get to the point where I'd outgrow it - but I'm not quite sure I'd get there [at least not for a long time!]. I'm more or less just learning it for myself. Is there a 'better' student model out there, in your opinion? And for the asking price, is that about an average deal for the guitar and what he's including, a little more, a little less...? Like I said, I'm a beginner... so typically how long does it take a good guitar to develop character? I never knew/realized they could.
- .k.t.c.l.i.n.g.
Thanks _so_ much for your help! I'll keep you posted on whether or not I get it. Going to look at it in a bit. This is the first guitar that I found online, and actually the first one I'm checking out for myself. I just want to make sure this doesn't end up being a 'compulsive' buy, but at the same time want to make a decision pretty quick, since it's only one of the very few good looking guitars in my price range in my area on craigslist. -_-

So, yeah, here's one guitar I'm looking at buying... let me know what you all feel about it. DESCRIPTION: "I've got (original owner) a wonderful sounding and good looking Fender DG-11 SB 6 string guitar in sunburst glossy finish. This was my first acoustic guitar and it's served me wonderfully as I've taken good care of it. I've moved onto an amplified acoustic and no longer need this one and want it to go to a good home. It's the perfect guitar if you are just learning - was for me! In addition to the guitar I've got a shoulder strap and a soft case / gig bag (minor scuff marks) that is slightly padded with an exterior pocket and backpack styled shoulder straps. I also still have the spare bridge, peg and neck wrench for adjusting the truss with instructional sheet. And finally - since I don't know how long the strings have been on it (which still sound good anyway), I've got a spare set of Martin 80/20 bronze light gauge strings I've thrown in. Oh - yeah - and a quick release style black capo too (as
- .k.t.c.l.i.n.g.
Dunno. I used to play trumpet, so I'm useless here.
- Steven Perez
$100 doesn't sound bad (this is it right: http://chicago.craigslist.org/nwc...). The guy should put the new strings on it before you look at it. New strings will make a ton of difference in the sound. If you're just starting this is probably a decent deal...but play it to make sure you can live with it until you step up.
- Justin
TOTALLY A BEGINNER - Taken a few lessons from a friend, but I'm serious about wanting to play, so I want to get my own. @Justin - yeah, that's the one! This guy also has this one listed: http://chicago.craigslist.org/nwc... I've never played a 3/4 size guitar...
- .k.t.c.l.i.n.g.
Oh, and to answer your 2nd ?, Spidra, I'm just looking for a good one to learn/practice on... Don't want to spend a lot of money but want the best I can get, ya know? My brother has a cheaper guitar and I don't like playing it - the strings seem harder than normal to press down, among other things.
- .k.t.c.l.i.n.g.
Here's the TG-4 new: http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product... - $200. And here's the DG11 - http://www.musiciansnews.com/guitars... $200. So it looks like they're roughly the same caliber of guitar from Fender. The travel guitar might be an easier scale to start on, but eventually you may want a full size. I'd start full size....but that's just me. Spidra has great advice...query the Guitar room. I'm new to FF, didn't know that room
- Justin
THanks - I sent out a message to one of the rooms, but they all look like they haven't had much activity. I'm kinda torn on which of the two I like better... I'm 5'4" and have pretty average sized hands... for my height I guess. I don't know if they'd be considered "small." I know the 3/4 might be easier at first but you're right - I'd probably want a full size later anyway. Plus, the full sized one comes with a little more 'accessories'... Plus, I like the finish on it better!!
- .k.t.c.l.i.n.g.
Anyone else wanna pitch in their thoughts? :-P
- .k.t.c.l.i.n.g.
Aw, come on peeps, I KNOW there are more of you out there who play guitar! :-P Good buy or no, for a beginner's 1st guitar?
- .k.t.c.l.i.n.g.
Some movies I have enjoyed during recent months: 1. Burn After Reading 2. Changeling 3. Frost/Nixon 4. Pride and Glory 5. Slumdog Millionaire 6. Taken 7. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button 8. The Dark Knight 9. The Reader 10. The Wrestler 11. Tropic Thunder 12. WALL-E.
I liked burn after reading! I'm a total Coen bros fanboy tho.
- Haggis (Sean Loyless)
I LOVED Burn After Reading. "You think it's a Schwinn!" LOL
- .k.t.c.l.i.n.g.
i just got a negative bias against all recent Clooney movies. I like and watch entertaining movies, not those which make headache and are overly sophisticated (my brain works the entire day so i prefer relaxation when i choose to watch a movie).
- Hayk H.
Seen none of them while 5 are on my "to watch" list.
- Amit Morson
Joel and Ethan Coen are, of course, incredible cinematic geniuses. Burn After Reading wasn't my favorite Coen brothers film of all time, but it was amusing. My favorite Coen brothers film is either Fargo or No Country for Old Men. On the predictions front, I am proud to say that when I walked out of Slumdog Millionaire, I insisted to my skeptical companions that the film and Danny Boyle would easily win best film and best director awards for 2008. It has come to pass.
- Sean McBride
By the way, J.K. Simmons, the actor who played the CIA superior in Burn After Reading (and the father in Juno), is a very funny man. He's one of those second-tier actors whose name few people recognize but who deserve more credit for their work.
- Sean McBride
Sean, I love Simmons for his role in Spiderman franchises :) He, not unlike Depp, is at his best in bizzarre roles !
- Hayk H.
Hayk -- of course: Simmons was memorable in the Spider-Man movies. I just checked his IMDb page: http://www.imdb.com/name... Wow -- this dude gets a lot of work. I haven't seen any of his television performances.
- Sean McBride
Simple Jack: one of Stiller's more nuanced performances. :) Robert Downey Jr. was brilliant in Tropic Thunder, I think, doing a rendition of a seriously confused human being.
- Sean McBride
So I'm finally doing something I've always wanted to do - learn guitar!!! I found a few listings on Craigslist but would like 'second' opinions on whether or not they're good buys. Can anyone give me advice?? THANKS! =D
- .k.t.c.l.i.n.g.
Are you kidding?! It's totally Blagojevich... I mean, its almost an unfair fight, since it's *really* Tony vs. Rod and the rabid animal on top of his head.

How do you know how many people are on FriendFeed? It would make #most followed users stat more valuable
- Shevonne
I dunno, Shevonne. To be honest I don't pay that much attention to the number of followers. I'm not selling anything or using this to drive traffic...
- MVB (Grinch of FF)
congrats! i just checked and noticed i was at 58
- Cee Bee
I guess there are people using it for that. I am just a nosy ass person. haha
- Shevonne
I'm noticing my rank moving up quickly in the Most Active user list. Must seek balance. :p
- Rodfather
Last I checked, dead people couldn't make me laugh so I think you're alive and well, sir and if this is what currently amuses you, so be it. Plus, if you get one of these lifes who shall make me giggle all day long?
- ♥patricia♥
I'm kinda surprised that I'm even in the top 500 most active users (389th) because my Comment and Like numbers are pretty low. I am here every day, though. I'll probably continue to have a small following until maybe I get unlimited texting and I start using Twitter a whole lot more... I don't really care though. This is the 1st time I checked ffholic. I'm just happy to get answers from people on a regular basis.

Rebel Angels by Libba Gray. Nothing great but it's a triology so I'm sticking with it.
- Nurse Katie
@Joelle Nebbe - I have to break up books - light, heavy, light, heavy. Otherwise I go insane!
- Nation Hahn
I am actually looking for a good series to dive into next. We'll see what that ends up being.
- Nation Hahn
Wordy Shipmates - Sarah Vowell (audiobook)
- Molly, "sorry"
@Nation Hahn - yes, maybe I'll put in a reread of an old series, or perhaps a motivational/management book (they are usually fluffy)
- Joelle Nebbe (iphigenie)
Nation, It feels very much like a paperback (esp when it's in its cover), so there's that. And you can always still buy books, you know. It's not like you have to choose one or the other. But I love mine and I do recommend it, especially to anyone who is a fast/frequent reader (more books in 1), commutes via mass transit (very light and portable), or has trouble holding things (My mom's...

@Shevonne it's about a brit traveling around, similar to Anthony Bourdain, but not as wild
- clarke thomas
@Ninth- does it also support audiobooks?
- Shevonne
@Shevonne Yes, a real page turner! Very similar to a mystery/suspense/thriller in that I have no idea what the outcome will be...
- MVB (Grinch of FF)
Ohhhh...is it the Naked Chef (older now)? I know he had an awesome show on FoodNetwork that use to come on right before Anthony Bourdain's.
- Shevonne
@Shevonne, ooh you know? I don't know? I think it MIGHT because it does support mp3s. It probably doesn't support the ones from Audible.com, but I don't see why it wouldn't play it if it were mp3? Oh, hang on. I'll go look!
- Nine
I just finished The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman. I'm also reading Travel's with Charley by Steinbeck. I plan to start Lolita this weekend. And I just got The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie.

Thanks Ninth cause if it supports audiobooks, I am going to get one right now!

About to finish Show No Fear by Perri O'Shaughnessy and then will start the dead and the gone by Susan Beth Pfeffer

In the last few weeks I´ve finished Kushiel´s Avatar, The Hobbit, Lord of the Rings, The Kite Runner and am now rereading Pride and Prejudice.

@Pea - Love the entire Kushiel's series (read all six of them)!!!
- Ms. G.Warbucks IYN
lets see... fiction first: I've recently read Farthing by Jo Walton, Gale Force (book 6 of the Weather Warden series) by Rachel Caine, re-read Halting State by Charles Stross, a Fire Upon the Deep by Vernor Vinge, Tangled up in Blue by Joan Vinge, Iron Kissed by Patricia Briggs.
- Michael R. Bernstein
Non fiction: Adding Ajax and Painting the Web by Shelley Powers, Programming Collective Intelligence by Toby Segaran, IBM and the Holocaust by Edwin Black, The Anarchist in the Library by Siva Vaidhyanathan.

I'm not reading any books. I'm writing one right now.
- Tamar Weinberg
I have a stack that I need to start on--will be starting on either Shakespeare by Bill Bryson or The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman.
- Kelly W.
@Tamar Weinberg - I am also working on my own novel, although I have been seriously sidetracked over the past week. I hope yours is going well.

The Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris - phenomenal. First book is Dead Until Dark.

I have wanted to read the Sookie Stackhouse series for a while because I love True Blood. Might add it to my wish list!

I have adopted singing my message in the form of a popular tune...
- Tyler (Chacha)
I can top that by sucking to actually pick up the phone to call someone. I blame SMS/texting and the intartubez.
- Thomas Bøhm
I suck at talking on the phone in general.
- Bryce Roney
I hang up and call back 10 times before i will leave a voicemail. I don't check my own voicemail instead i just call back the recent calls. I hate phones. Glad to see i have peeps. :)

You are never here anymore! Yes I made a double recipe of your dip. It was a resounding hit. The aforementioned girls' dad, a coworker, hates hot wings because they're too much work, and when he tasted the dip he immediately demanded the recipe!
- MVB (Grinch of FF)
YESSSSSSSS!!!!!!! LOL I just told Lindsey to make it now. :) My chip dip is taking over the world, one taste bud at a time... *evil laugh* HAHA. I know I'm not on much anymore - I sowwy. I've been super freakin' busy trying to get back into college for this semester. They just accepted me yesterday and classes start Monday!! Ahh.... Last day at work today, though!
- .k.t.c.l.i.n.g.
Oh good for you going back to school! If you need help with homework just crowd source it here.
- MVB (Grinch of FF)
Hey - good idea!! Although - think there are many people on here who could help with upper civil engineering classes? Like structures and hydraulics and such? That would be PHENOMENAL.
- .k.t.c.l.i.n.g.
Seriously - try it. I know people who HATE bleu cheese but like this, so don't let that deter you. Also, DON'T use fat-free/reduced fat bleu cheese dressing - it funks with the flavor a lot. I find a 1/2 recipe of this feeds me and a friend or two nicely.

Now paste my husband's head on this dog and you'll get the general picture of my living room. I kid, I kid!

Happy New Year Zee, hope you had a good one in the Big Smoke last night, btw when are we all doing the FF London meet-up?? Maybe summat could be organised in February.... - You (edit | delete)

My husband fell in love with this dog! What kind is he?
- Janet
Janet, it's a spaniel, Springer or King Charles, I'm not sure.
- Jack (a.k.a. Jeber)
I have springers, maybe this is why husband likes it. I really never saw many tri-colored. I want this dog!!!!
- Janet
He's a real star Janet, I mean just the warmest dog ice ever come across.
- Zee.
YES. Although, fried rice in general scares me... you never know when you'll find some fried bugs in there. But that's just my phobia.

I just had a conversation with my brother about my poop. He's like a health nut, and he answered all my questions without making me feel like an idiot. :D
Some of my vegan/raw friends have WAY too many poop-centric conversations. They mean well, but I wish they'd stop asking about mine. ;)

I know Chicago and Albuquerque are two different places, but: the way ABQ reacts to snow and ice never fails to make me laugh. I used to walk to school for a mile and a half in weather colder and more treacherous than this. Now? CLOSE THE SCHOOLS TOO ICY AAAAIIIIEEEEEE!!!!
A lot of times, places that don't see a lot of regular ice and snow don't have the resources and the equipment to deal with making the roads safe for buses and other traffic. So for safety reasons, they close the schools to encourage people to stay off the roads until they can work on them.
- Trish R
I would agree, if I didn't live in a mountain city that has a regular winter with roads icing up regularly.
- Steven Perez
I'm betting Chicago had the equipment on hand to deal with icy weather. Where I live, there isn't enough equipment to keep the roads from icing over, and I have yet to meet anyone who can drive on a quarter inch of ice safely.
- FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
I'm not saying that the mountain areas don't have an excuse. I used to live just on the other side of the mountains, and when the show came, you couldn't get me to walk outside the front door when it snowed, let alone drive to work. But here, in the city, where they have salt trucks and deicing equipment - NO EXCUSE.

I think some of it is the overly litigious world we live in nowadays. Better to disrupt everyone's lives and make them take a day off work to look after little Johnny, than have little Johnnie's parents sue the school district for $10M because Johnny fell over, and hurt himself.
- Ian May
Whew. Today I got my 200-some Christmas cards signed and stuffed; still need to seal and stamp them. Also got most of the gifts wrapped, just have the ones for my parents left, and even got the *whispers* S-T-O-C-K-I-N-G items sorted out into separate ziplock bags for the big night. And napped. :)
It gave me such a thrill when I came on a card to someone here in FriendFeed. Of course, I HAD to sign them as Ladybug Heather. :-D
- Ladybug Heather
Wow - you got WAY more done today that I did!!! :P
- .k.t.c.l.i.n.g.
P.S. It's not too late, if you want me to send you a card. I've got folks on my list from Canada, Scotland, South America, and Australia, so I don't mind sending them overseas. Just email me (hedwyg AT gmail) or DM me on twitter (hedwyg) with your snail-mail addy, and I'll send you mine in return, though I do not expect reciprocation - and no guilt trips allowed!
- Ladybug Heather
Well, Katie... it was mostly stuff I could do sitting down. :-) I watched Batman Begins while I worked on the cards, so now I'm ready to open my Dark Knight DVD - woohoo!

Sounds like fun - kinda. I have to do Christmas shopping still.

Not to be a downer, rather a reality check: I'm almost 55 and still looking. I've learned to be my own best friend first while keeping an eye out for the best friend who can become a mate. If it never happens, I've still had good friends along the way, and I still have me.
