Please don't. I hate GetSatisfaction. I don't want to play silly games with emoticons and other stupid childish crap, on an over scripted site that won't even load on my other pc, if I need to file a complaint, ask for help, or make a bug report. Any company that uses GetSatisfaction, I really can't take them seriously, and I don't feel they are taking their customers/users seriously.
- April
I agree with April. I don't like GetSatisfaction for the same reason. And when I tried to contact a company via GetSatisfaction, they never solved my problem or even answered.
- Brome
Hmm,looks like No Satisfaction on GetSatisfaction.:)
- Igor Poltavskiy
I don't mind either way but there are other similar services I've used, hmmm, can't remember the name of the one I thought was really well done though.
- Kol Tregaskes
Igor: What do you mean "add GetSatisfaction"? Add it as a service you can import into your feed or adopt it as a a customer service tool?
- Ken Sheppardson
I'd like to see GS available as a service to import to your feed
- Mike Chelen
If the idea is to add support for importing it as a service into your feed, I have no problem with that. But as a customer service tool to be used by Friendfeed for the reporting of issues with the Friendfeed service, I do have objections to that, as I stated before. (just to clarify that my objections are NOT related to supporting the services that friendfeed users use and want to import into their feed)
- April
April, because some companies doesn't take costumers seriously, doesn't mean that GS is the one to blame. Also no one force you to use emoticons. I can't see what you mean as "other stupid childish crap", tags maybe? No one force you to use them either, but you can't call them that at all. I got helped a lot from companies that use GS, so it isn't GS's fault if some companies doesn't take us seriously. I didn't saw you to suggest something better than GS either, so: http://getsatisfaction.com/friendf...
- Saxtus
Found it, this was the other service I thought was really good: UserVoice: http://uservoice.com/. I've used it for Twhirl and a couple of others, very well done.
- Kol Tregaskes
Uservoice is very basic: It's like a big poll of ideas unlike GS that seems more like a structured discussion board, can only be used to share ideas unlike GS that can be used to solve problems, must always be endorsed by the company unlike GS that people unrelated to company can solve other people's problems.
- Saxtus
Saxtus, yes that is true. Still a nice service. :-)
- Kol Tregaskes
Let me clarify that my problem isn't with how companies handle issues with their customers, because even if they are paying attention and trying to be helpful, with their staff offering the greatest customer support on earth, the fact they chose to use GS is why I say they don't take their customers seriously. I have had nothing but really bad experiences with the site itself and how it...
- April
If a company chooses GS as their method of providing customer support, they don't want my business. It's as simple as that. While others may like playing with childish "oooh ahhh lots of cool ajax & smilies", I don't. Not for something that should be quick, simple, and easy and not kill my pc and cause data loss. And you want me to suggest something better than GS? Anything is better, including a spam filled forum or a tiny shoutbox.
- April
April, because you only have bad experience from GS, doesn't mean that the rest of us do. Stop trying to use as excuse the smilies to degrade the service. The most powerful feature that it has, i.e. searching old threads while you type your question, to avoid duplicates, is implemented in Ajax and it's a very good way to do it (how this can be done in a forum or shoutbox automatically?).You are still unable to provide a serious specific alternative, so I can only see that the hatred for GS had consumed you.
- Saxtus
Kol, I agree it's fun and I love using it for suggesting new features. Yet it makes me sad when I see people trying to use it as support service, entering their questions in the place of suggestions...
- Saxtus
The reason why some people use it as a support service is not the fault of those asking questions but the fault of the companies that sent them there to ask them. And a serious specific alternative? How about phpbb? smf? I have been and continue to be a member of quite a few support communities that have used those to provide top notch support and build terrific communities of volunteers to help people.
- April
Unfortunately, a simple forum software like those you're suggesting, isn't built to provide support but for general discussion and this is the way they should be treated for. When someone opens a new thread in a forum, system doesn't suggest him/her previous threads (so we get duplicate threads cluttering the system) and once a problem is solved, the post that provided the most feedback isn't moved at the top for faster future reference. That's why GS is better than a plain forum for CS purposes.
- Saxtus
Hi all, I'm one of the founders of Get Satisfaction, and I just wanted to thank everyone for the candid feedback. While we're really proud of the work we've done, and the often positive impact we've been able to make, we do believe we can improve the experience substantially. April, I think you're right that we need to optimize the experience, slim it down, simplify. I just took over as CTO and this is a big priority--something we've already begun with new header designs launched over the last few weeks.
- Thor Muller
Having said that, we won't be stripping out all the fun from it. One of our priorities has been to make customer support more human and enjoyable, because most people (on either side of the equation) dread it. The first version of our site was not about keeping it simple, but about figuring out what works and what doesn't as we borrow from social media design patterns to rethink customer service. With our insights in hand, we're now in a much better place to distill to essential ingredients.
- Thor Muller
And you are doing a great job, Thor. In contrast with April, I prefer how GS handles customer care. It is how customer care was supposed to be done from the start. I am intrigued to find out your next moves, please keep 'em coming!
- Bart Muskala - AdNerd Sr.
from twhirl
Thor: I use (and pay for) GS for "instant on" CS for a couple or small projects and while I agree the UX could use some streamlining, I think it does more stuff right than it does wrong. I look forward to seeing it evolve.
- Ken Sheppardson
While I like Get Satisfaction, it would be nice to see some ways/tools to encourage companies to participate. I've seen quite a few GS sites where there is hardly any company participation which kind of defeats the purpose. Obviously, it's up to the company but I can't help thinking that there must be something that can be done to improve the interaction rate.
- jho
I don't like GetSatisfaction. It's a good idea, but poorly implemented as far as I can see. Too much work just to complain about something. I'd much rather @reply the offending brand on Twitter.
- Rah-PM 2012
BTW, I like the irony of having a conversation RE the pros/cons of GetSatisfaction in a room on FriendFeed.
- Ken Sheppardson
All good feedback. Thanks. Rahsheen, it's not an either/or re: responding via Twitter. There are a great many things for which 140 characters isn't enough. And if you want to organize answers and insight (and intercept people with the same issue) then a systemic approach makes sense. Jauder Ho, definitely agree that some game mechanics would be useful to encourage responsiveness. I think the trend towards transparency is still in the early stages.
- Thor Muller
I'd also like to see GS added to the list of services we can import feeds from. Please?
- Rebeca
Let us set our own icon(s) for Custom RSS/Atom feeds, or grab the favicon from the site the feed comes from.
- Chris Charabaruk
Let us set our own names for the Blog and Custom RSS/Atom feeds.
- Chris Charabaruk
Let us choose which Blog feed appears in the chiclet area on our user feed pages, rather than the service choosing for us. That way, my actual blog can show up, rather than my Plinky account. For those of us with a custom feed appearing as well, same thing.
- Chris Charabaruk
Er, actually, the activity feed includes activity by others on topics I'm subscribed to. Hmm... And there are no <author> elements, either. Hrmph.
- dgw
“Does anyone else want to see Friend Feed import from Facebook? It's one of the biggest reasons I still use socialthing.com” - http://friendfeed.com/e...
Photo activity and status updates would be nice.
- Michael Ryan
Friend status updates, photos, and wall posts
- Grant Gochnauer
you can import the rss feed from facebook...or create an imaginary friend in ff
- Rob Williams
the status updates would be good. I can see why you can't at the moment, if FB imported into FF, I think that could potentially collapse the walled garden that is Facebook.
- Steve Isaacs
@Rob - interesting idea actually. I guess the whole concept of FF where you have to manually follow individuals breaks down with facebook. I'd like it so I'd automatically follow all my facebook friends so I wouldn't have to add imaginary people for every single friend. Maybe the concept of a personal facebook room that is facebook's updates consolidated like that
- Grant Gochnauer
sorry - zero interest for me but i could see those that use facebook a lot wanting this - as long as we could hide the entire service do see a problem though
- mike "glemak" dunn
That raises an interesting question: what does the Facebook integration that's currently in Friendfeed actually do? I don't think I've ever seen a Facebook item go through my feed.
- Mark Trapp
@Rob - I took your suggestion and yeah looks like I got status updates now :). Now all I need are my wall posts and newly tagged photos of friends and new photo albums. I didn't see a feed for those unfortunately. This is better than nothing though :)
- Grant Gochnauer
@Grant: you could probably cheat by doing some email to rss option through a 3rd party site, then import that feed in with your facebook imaginary friend (you can import more than one feed for a friend)
- Rob Williams
I haven't seen anything from facebook either Mark
- Alejandro
My status, my friends status and (optionally) my mini feed and the news feed of my friend's activities. I'd also like to selectively import my Facebook friends to be FF friends.
- Jon Price
FriendFeed's current Facebook app is worthless. Just an iframe with FriendFeed in it. It *should* let me see which of my Facebook friends are on FriendFeed.
- Pat Hawks
It just seems like there should be a way to export Facebook into Friendfeed. What you'd want to export should be optional though.
- xero
In general, I think services that have an authenticated API call should do fancier things on FF. Flickr should show all my friends/contacts posts, even if they aren't on FF. FB should do some similar things with some datatypes. It currently seems to only have this behavior with a handful of services (twitter etc) that put this information out in the public sphere.
- Ryan Gallagher
Don't want. It would be just another service I block.
- EricaJoy
the option would be great, but you'd have to sort out privacy issues (in a technical sense)
- David Alvarez
Good point, but then we should be able to filter things by language. It will be scary if chinese invade FF -- just kidding, we all love chinese :)
- directeur
filtering by language would be a useful add!
- Alessandro
Translation a la Google would be cooler! Us English-only folks don't want to be exclusive, we're just not skilled enough to include foreign languages. Machine translation isn't perfect but it could go a long way toward broadening the conversation so all your Chinese (or others) ideas can contribute to our conversation as well as vice versa.
- Kenneth LeFebvre
I think it's not in the best interest of FriendFeed to add localizations in this stage because development of core system is still on the way. I would be more impressed if base system would develop faster instead of crossing development to multible ways (because adding translations can cause problems because community starts to split up).
- Daniel Schildt
It's not just English. There are some really heavy users of FriendFeed in Iran. Lots of persian FriendFeed rooms http://friendfeed.com/e... and people sharing FriendFeed stat pages.
- Mitchell Tsai
English is my 4th language actually :)
- directeur
Is there much French (or other non-English European) activity? I haven't seen much non-English non-Persian activity in my usage yet.
- Mitchell Tsai
I also miss my friends here. FF's interface is simple, so it won't take a lot of time to translate it... But such simplicity may be lost after adding localization and filtering by language options, I afraid.
- Anton
Along the lines of the new media enclosure feature, it would be cool if blog feeds into FF displayed the first several couple sentences of the entry's summary or content element, as well as extracing and displaying any embedded images in that section.
This would basically allow people to plug their own microblogging services into FF with roughly the same capabilities as the custom services or the FF bookmarklet.
- DeWitt Clinton
Oh, and favicon support, but I think that's been discussed before.
- DeWitt Clinton
I was just about to do something online, opened up FireFox (opens the tabs I had last opened) and got distracted by FF. Now I can't remember what I was about to do anymore! What can I do to stop this from happening again?
there's more to this...at least for me...FF seems to be kind of addictive. so much relevant information flowing before my very eyes...HELP!
- Gaby K. Slezák
Oh I've done this a few times! hehehe!
- Susan Beebe
Would love to see how many people a "post" is visible to. When I post something, it is visible to about 25 people...but if Robert Scoble likes it or comments it, all of the sudden it is visible to 15,000+ users.
agreed, I would like to get a sense of scope for posts and even comments, it would also be interesting to see how this number changes based on who comments or likes posts.
- gregory
We need something for Greasemonkey and Userscripts.org so we can all see what scripts everyone else is using to add extra tabs and settings on to FriendFeed.
I would propose something more concrete and detailed, but I don't write scripts or anything. I was hoping someone who did would see the issue I brought up and maybe come up with a more solid idea. If alot of people get into it, we'll have thousands of options to choose from.
- The Kid
Is there a way you can differentiate between "dugg a story" and "submitted/added a story" to Digg? I'd like to know whether my friends are just Digging or actually submitting.
Yes! Please please please make the url field searchable
- Glenn Slaven
I've bunched together the links for some sites that'll help [NB: You'll need Greasemonkey to run them - but they link off if you haven't already got it] :-) http://linkbun.ch/jn7
- CannonGod
Yes, theres a script for that userscripts.org. If you have firefox and the greasemonkey extension installed, then pretty much all of the things we're asking for on friendfeed, someone has already written a script for them.
- The Kid
I want views. I want to see a group of Friends and not everyone. I like the noise don't get me wrong. But, some content from certain people is more valuable to me than the rest of the stream. I WANT VIEWS!!!!
What I would like is to see the content of my close friends to be bumped to the top, while interesting stuff from other folks is at the bottom. This way, I'll know if my friends are trying to communicate to me via FriendFeed.
- Rishabh Mishra (p248)
I agree, sorting the noise or prioritizing it would be a nice feature
- Kyle Weller
Yeah, being able to group friends and use each group as a friends sub-tab might be nice. Although, hm... maybe I wouldn't use it... I have no idea. :)
- felix
I would just like an easy way to see the difference between my subscriptions. For example: LJ bolds mutual friends/subscriptions, but doesn't bold one way subscriptions. So, I'd like an indicator to say "This person is subscribed to you but you are not subscribed to him/her," and "You are subscribed to this person but s/he is not subscribed to you."
- xero
I was just thinking about this earlier. Time consuming to check every time.
- Rah-PM 2012
A post could contain information about what a room is about or other pertinent information that an administrator wants at the top of the stream.
- Mark Trapp
Mark, it turns out that there are at least two other discussions of this (not counting the discussion in the lastfmfeeds room itself), one of which I haven't even read yet. I'll hunt 'em up and link 'em together.
- Ontario Emperor
since popular need not be important.. am anyway starting to write code with API and scriptaculous to implement logic to answer the question.. if you liked 10 items. what is the most liked?
- Kishore Balakrishnan
smart noise reduction/smart signal amplification -- a nice pair of antonyms -- and they are complementary and mutually reinforcing, of course.
- Sean McBride
Smart signal amplification, smart recommender systems, smart personal assistants -- definitely the wave of the future -- the biggest wave. How can each of us optimize our potential in every situation, with a little help from smart algorithms which parse and prioritize everything in real time at the finest possible granularity?
- Sean McBride
Profile Page: I'd like to create a public profile page. Just something short and not complex, but most importantly would provide links automatically to the sources I am sharing. Then I'd have a full profile page I can send people to.
+1 I've been avoiding commenting on this topic because I thought it was silly, but I've started redirecting people to FF as my main site lately, so perhaps it is not so silly after all.
- xero
What would you guys like to see included in a profile?
- Ross Miller
All of the services, maybe add a description to each blog feed. A short about me area (textbox, nothing special). If tags are ever introduced, then the personal tag cloud, quick links to my likes and comments. Basically, what's in the sidebar on the "Me" page, plus an area to add a small description of myself and what content types one can expect from my feeds.
- xero
yes, please add at least a small textbox to the "me" page and the mouseover so we can at least write who we are and how to contact us
- Gaby K. Slezák
I think the most important things would be a short message box (as Gaby Benkwitz described) and the option to add at least one site link (preferably with an XFN-friendly rel="me" tag)
- d<3vid seaward
@Ross : photo, short bio, location, and what services we import as live links, optional contact info. i like twitter's bio page. ff should just add our list of imported items with links
- Rob Williams
A profile page would be great, let users decide what they wanna have on it
- Majento
if would be great if there was some kind feature that combined already shared links together, kind of like Digg... something that simply added a 'like' to an already posted like if no comments were included. it would even be nicer if it could combine notes and comments form other sources as well
- nick carrasco
thanks xero, seems like there's a lot of hidden pages in friendfeed
- Anthony C.
FriendFeed moves so fast... FriendFeedLinks is cool. You can also search the article title with "who:everyone".
- Mitchell Tsai
an automatic merger of duplicate links would be cool and the FF machines should do the work, not us (not manually). maybe the FF team could use friendfeedlinks.com ;-)
- Gaby K. Slezák
if they were to merge, what happens with different convos going on, I'd say have a number next to it linking to 1 page with all indivdual share's and seperate comments , this way you can see what everyone said and join in many different convos about this link.... example www.link.com: you posted a message (31) ...then clicking on the 31 would take u to the page of 31 entries of this page shared.
- Anthony C.
Automatic merging sounds interesting, but what would it look like? If you stumble a link, then 5 min later I digg it, do I just show up as a footnote in your submission? Or does it look different depending on who is viewing it and who their friends are? And as stated above comments merging would be a whole other layer of complexity depending on the answer.
- Tony Miller
FF Request: the ability to respond within FF to Seesmic videos. Even if not with the FF thread, it should be as easy as changing the embed code for each shown Seesmic video
can I have more than one friend page? I would like to track people I actually know on one page and then those like Leo, Winer, Calcanous, Scoble on another
i agree with this one. i would love some kind of grouping feature. i regularly miss updates from family and close friends because they get lost in the stream of all the others i follow
- Brad Warren
hmm, it sort of happens naturally that way already, but your idea is interesting - would require some form of cross user routing/alerting
- mike "glemak" dunn
would rather see ff integrate with another profile that's already established - web doesn't need yet another disjointed profile that we need to manually sync
- mike "glemak" dunn
@glemak, "A disjointed profile?" What? This request is not for a profile but for a box (aka room description) to write in and this box will stay on-top of the profile. If a box is to much to digest, how about a sticky topic?
- Czar
derek: got it, yes a simple descriptive box per user makes sense - bio = profile to me, there are already places online that do that well
- mike "glemak" dunn
@glemak, I can guaranty you that no other 'online profile' is going to read "welcome to czar's friendfeed stream -yadda yadda." Perhaps you recycle the same profile... idk. Thanks for the feedback.
- Czar
derek: nope, i get what your asking for - for profile, i'm really looking for standardization vs duplication - so one source or protocol for a location that i control that contains the metadata of someone - for now i look at linkedin & facebook or if a good about page exists i look at that - nothing is very good yet and w/ more and more social sites gaining popularity its just going to get worse as fragmentation of presence online occurs - all imho of course :)
- mike "glemak" dunn
i requested it several times - want to add my retagger card
- Dieter Schwarz
