"Yeah I'm not an Ubuntu fan and even I think this article's total BS. Synaptic has a GUI, it's dead easy to add and remove programs from Linux, period. Exactly why he was fiddling with the CLI, I'm not so sure." - LANjackal
I do this too, albeit for a different reason: I live within my means, so I don't have bills I can't pay. As such, my #1 priority is paying bills on time. With online banking, all I have to do is login and schedule a payment as soon as I get a bill. It's worked well :) - LANjackal
"2 - WRONG. 4 minutes is 4 minutes that you can't get back. And simple math shows that often one lane is and will move faster than the other. This happens, for example, when lanes A and B are merging into Lane B. Every time a car merges from A to B, Lane A will shorten by one car length while Lane B will lengthen by one car. Thus, the difference in lane length between the 2 lanes is now actually >= 2 car lengths - Lane A is moving faster than B. If you're in B, switch to A, but A drivers should stay in their lane and merge at the last possible opportunity. Similarly, right turn lanes can often move faster than other lanes in high traffic because cars are leaving the road, thus allowing more space ahead of drivers who remain in the lane. If you don't believe any of this, try it yourself. 3 - Eye contact WHILE DRIVING? This isn't a restuarant, it's a f*ing road. Perfect prescription for an accident. 4 - Oh yeah, because your commute is definitely TOTALLY under your control *sarcasm* 6 -..." - LANjackal
The problem is this: eMusic has simply failed to realize that they're not the only MP3 store out there any more. As such, their subscription plans seem retarded, especially when they don't carry a lot of the mainstream music that other stores do. Ironically, they're guilty of the same reticence that they often accuse the RIAA of. - LANjackal
"I wouldn't say I'm unhappy with the service provided by my cable company, Cox. But the cost of maintaining said service is skyrocketing. I counted at least 3 increases in less than a year on both internet and TV charges, and I'm on the highest tier of the latter service. It's now costing me a whopping $60/mth for a 15mbps connection, + nearly $70 for a SD and an HD cable box with the sports and variety channels. I can't wait to talk $ with them once my 2 year contract runs out." - LANjackal
"Kinda ironic that P2P enforcement have given new life to HTTP - and Usenet, though it's not mentioned in the article - downloading. The more things change, the more they stay the same ..." - LANjackal
Don't shed any tears - this thing didn't even have CableCard support and was tremendously expensive for its components, capabilities and competition. - LANjackal
"The biggest advantage of going with a credit union is that they generally pay significantly higher interest rates than regular banks while making your money a LOT more accessible than online savings banks. I'm rather surprised the article didn't even mention this." - LANjackal
"Wow, thanks for that nugget of knowledge, Captain Obvious. MS never really had a high performance supercomputing version of Windows until HPC. Obviously Linux and other *nix flavors have lead the way in that arena. This isn't news. Buried." - LANjackal
"Hahaha did people actually think Facebook was about reconnecting with friends? Actually it is, but it can easily be turned into a very interesting popularity game. As for posting pictures that make you look attractive, users who don't do this aren't non-narcissistic, they're retarded. In our electronic world, chances are that other people will experience you more via your Facebook or MySpace profile than in person. Might as well put your best foot forward." - LANjackal
"Of course, the article doesn' t mention that you certainly don't have to go to Wal-Mart. Surprise - there ARE other retailers out there. Also, no retailer is obligated to sell its items at any price other than what they want to get for what they're selling." - LANjackal
"Yeah dude, I DEFINITELY want to have to visit IRC before I can actually use the OS *sarcasm* Thanks but no thanks. I also don't have the time to try a different distro every weekend, sorry. I've used RHEL, Ubuntu, SUSE and YDL and all are a PITA. Don't get me wrong though, I like Linux for its ability to return old hardware to usability (thanks to its lower system requirements) and $0 price tag, but that's about it." - LANjackal
"I've tried to use and love Linux, including the Wubi installation on my Vista laptop. However, it seems like every Linux installation rapidly descends into command line and .conf file hackathon if you want to do anything more than browse the web, send email and open documents. Not to mention the near total lack of official documentation, confusing/half-assed instructions online that rapidly become outdated faster than their authors can make them current. Linux is great for serious experts and people whose needs are simple. For people in the middle such as myself it's just a very frustrating experience. I can't tell the last time I booted into Ubuntu via Wubi, even though I installed it. I run YDL on my PS3 and can't even get the system to retain my OpenDNS settings between reboots. Something that would take all of 3 minutes including a reboot on Vista takes hours of hair pulling and forum posting in Linux. Yes, I still use Linux, but it's a LONG LONG LONG way before it will ever..." - LANjackal
"WHO CARES!? Just watch the show! If you're going for realism, the fact is that you see branded products every day. Does it matter whether a character is drinking Absolut or Brand X vodka? The morality of consuming/using a certain substance/object has NOTHING to do with what brand it is. Jesus Christ get a life." - LANjackal
"Sure looks a lot better than that gaudy, overdone Audigier/Ed Hardy/Affliction/Tapout shit everyone seems to be wearing nowadays. Good find :)" - LANjackal
"Author starts out well, then starts completely losing his sanity in the middle and is completely bat*t insane at the end. While I agree with the premise, some of the reasons are pretty far out/fanboyish. Buried." - LANjackal
