For myself, I usually only comment on Twitter when it's something that isn't coming on FriendFeed .. because if it's on FriendFeed i'm more likely to comment. The Conversation is more visible i guess here. - Stu Andrews via twhirl
it's just plain easier to track and participate in conversations on FF vs Twitter - Abbas Haider Ali
Looks like FF conversations are more attractive:).Twitter's conversation: tete-a-tete,FF's one; group conversation - Igor Poltavskiy
Once Twitter shut down GTalk integration, Twitter lost a lot of appeal for me. GTalk made it easy, there was a constant flow of thing streaming by, and if I was busy with something else, it was easy to find where I had stopped reading in Pidgin, and scan through it all. The Twitter clients just don't offer the ease of use I want, sure they have lots of features, none of which I use. Bring back GTalk, and conversations will pick up again. - Shawn Kirsch

so are you going to apologise to them over the "Screw you, Twitter" comment? - Scott O'Raw
If we don't hear from Scoble again, we know what happened.... - Pokai
marty nailed it, olive branch - Bwana
They didn't blame you. That Siegler guy did. - Dewald Pretorius
Does this mean I can't blame you for global warming any more? - Sean Reiser
Maybe Biz Stone will sit Scoble in front of a workstation and tell him to start coding. - Kevin D. White
They can't (or shouldn't) blame you, because prolific users help promoting the service. - Leon Ho
Cool! - Mitchell Tsai
I'll apologize if they tell everyone that big users aren't to blame at all for their troubles. They did say that users that run scripts are who they were aiming their guns at. - Robert Scoble
40-50% think scoble - Jay Martinez via twhirl
Sean: I'm still responsible for global warming. I'm burning coal to keep my Internet running. - Robert Scoble
40-50% think scoble when someone says "popular users" on twitter. this is who they blamed. - Jay Martinez via twhirl
I guess they didn't read: "Always blame your top users and their toddlers," by the RIAA. - Andy Sternberg
I wanna go with you! Roadtrip! - Britney Mason
Scoble is also responsible for the current "recession-like" state of the economy and record high gas prices. - Tim Moore
That's an arrogant note from Robert. Unless it's meant to be a joke. - Dennis Howlett
Man, Twitter users are sensitive! I think they were just describing a weakness in their architecture because of an unanticipated phenomenon. No blame. That is the thing about these apps. You don't know if or how they will be used until after you build them. - Seth "No Meme" Gottlieb
I would love to see the Twitter welcoming party. With their knuckle-dusters at the ready ;¬D - CannonGod
Robert, would you please read that Q&A - at no point is the word blame used. One of two things is going on here: either you have a persecution complex that is seriously affecting your ability to process information properly or you have spent the last few hours happily feeding this meme that you are to blame just so that you will be the centre of everyones attention. I'd be happy to hear which it is. - Scott O'Raw
The problem is, Seth, that those of us who have been part of building these systems, maintaining them, and tuning know you do not say these things in public. You alienate your userbase which is a no-no with Service management. They could have blamed all the IM users and it would have been the same thing. Users should never be perceived as a problem of any kind. - Bwana
They should perhaps aim their guns at desired features that would prevent people from having to run scripts. - JC unwired
Robert, if anything, your exploits and people's ruminations about them are always entertaining! :-) - Christine Cavalier
Their office may crash, if your Twitter friends follow you there ;) - Jemm
So, ya going to go? :} - Aaron Myers
wont hurt to carry a 'piece'! - bvs
I don't think they were trying to blame top users, they were just saying that is the reason it's down. Obviously, twitter should have planned for users have large followings and tweeting everyone, but they didn't. So now, people who do have a large following are slowing down the site. It's not blame, it's the truth and hopefully they get their act together and fix it. - Natitude
Bwana -- "you do not say these things in public?" There isn't enough space on FF to disagree with you, so I'll just ask if you realize the IRONY involved in you saying this when we're talking about Mr. Naked Conversations, a.k.a. Mr. Corporate Transparency, a.k.a. Mr. Employees Should Blog. - Karim
How do we know it's truth? There's no proof, we don't have exposure to their internals. A couple of weeks ago it was "We don't know what's wrong", now it's "Our top users are pounding the database". This is a big reason why you don't say these things in public. They may believe in their heart of hearts that this is the issue, but performance tuning is extremely tricky, and very often your first ideas are not the issue. - Bwana
But they didn't blame you, it's the peanut gallery trying to stir the pot and ill-intentioned linkbaiters that's got nothing better to do - Mario Olckers
Bwana, good call! - JC unwired
Good! glad to see them reaching out to you. curious what happens! - Susan Beebe
I get the impression there's something else going on here behind the scenes... - Dewald Pretorius
Karim - Irony or not it's the truth. I'm not Robert so I'm not speaking for him. I am telling you my experience in this area and you do not include your users in such statements. Period. Look at what you're saying: If there's an issue with Gmail performance and Google issued a statement saying "Gmail isn't performing well due to a subset of our heaviest users performing too many queries on their inbox", their stock would plumment by 50%. - Bwana
Obviously they have come to their senses and trying to rectify the situation. A predictable move but definitely the correct one. Let us know how things go with them. - Nicholas Kreidberg
laming anyone in particular. No whine-e whine ;p - highcenter via twhirl
Before anyone says anything further about Twitter versus FriendFeed, look at this comparison graph. http://snurl.com/2bmis - Dewald Pretorius
Bwana, I respectfully disagree. I'd totally rather have Google be honest and open about their difficulties rather than a) admit nothing, or b) tell us "something is technically wrong" or c) give us the usual PR spin, lies and bullshit we were all used to getting from companies P.C.E. (Pre-Cluetrain Era) Not especially interested in comparing effect of bullshit excuses vs. raw truth on stock price. I'm sorry if the MASSIVE irony of this involving the author of "Naked Conversations" escapes you. - Karim
It doesn't escape me at all. You assume what Twitter says is true, and again I say, we have no way of knowing. If the cause of system degradation were always the hardest hitting transactions, then performance tuning would be cheap :) There's a reason why these service management standards are in place. We can agree to disagree, but many ITIL companies out there employ this principle. I'll leave it at that. - Bwana
It is my fault. I will take the blame. Me and my unruly band of 79 followers. We broke Twitter. - Seth "No Meme" Gottlieb
Bwana, come on, first you're saying that they need MORE spin and filtering, they shouldn't be saying certain things "in public;" now you're saying that what we're *getting* is spin, or untrustworthy? I mean, which is it? Is the truth too raw, or are we getting untruth? I assume what Twitter says is true, yes. I assume Twitter knows more about Twitter than I do. They might not be right, but I have currently have no reason to suspect them of either being in error or lying. Do you? - Karim
Bwana: why do you keep saying that Twitter blamed their users? They quite plainly blamed their own architecture. - Clint Ecker
I'm done here guys, we're getting nowhere fast. Let's agree to disagree. - Bwana
So here's an example of a Yahoo Pipe that allows you to follow someone else's friends - e.g. I could start following everyone that is following Scoble. http://pipes.yahoo.com/ullrich... What normal person would run this? I think these tools are used by spammers and should be blocked by Twitter. - Mike Doeff
Strangely, Robert seems to have abandoned this discussion but has just posted a couple of messages on Twitter. Is the author of Naked Conversations hiding his shame? - Scott O'Raw
Encourage Twitter to spend that money wisely and get stable. - Jeff B
s well as a not so scalable solution I just hope that all this makes a better experiance for future users WTG Scoble - Charles Rice via twhirl
Curious to see/hear what happens.. Just hope that twitter doesn't go down during your meeting with them otherwise they may be pointing the finger at you again! - Nicholas Kreidberg

You know I totally buy that. - Muhammad Saleem
actually me to, between twhirl, friendfeed, and the tons of other twitter tools it does seem plausible, but still frustrating none the less. - Steaprok
it makes absolute sense. look at the over 200 tools that hit their api. - Rodney Rumford
while it makes sense that the api clients are causing a problem, they should not be affecting the whole service. they should just cause the api clients to choke. - Rob Diana
they can't scale yet they blame other for it. why not creating simple policy over the usage of API so they can manage things? Why don't they close the door if they don't like others to come? Because they need it. - Akhmad Fathonih
if the web interface was better, people wouldn't hammer the api as much - Andy Beard
@andybeard agreed, only reason i try all these tools, is becuase they make it easier - Steaprok
I prefer the web interface, it's less distracting, plus clicking refresh is the only exercise I get - Lyndon Antcliff
