If I walked into a restroom that looked like Mick Jagger lips were hanging off the walls I think I'd just turn around and keep going - JohnBfromMemphis

I would be fearful to let my "oh boy" just dangle in between those swollen red lips. I mean, what if those teeth came crashing down!!? - Terence Washington
I predict a massive backlash against online media being "green" (which is as much of a myth as food miles and "carbon neutral") once people figure out that it's massively costly and not carbon neutral beyond the point of purchase for the duration of its lifecycle. Unlike a book which (unless you burn it) has no further direct environmental impact beyond its point of production. - Alex Murray
I will buy books until they are no longer printed, and while their print runs may get smaller, I don't see them ending in my lifetime; furthermore, I could see myself buying books that I read and enjoyed electronically, just as I often buy books that I originally read at the library. - RAPatton
@Alex sure, but I suspect E=mc^2 says that book could support transmission of that book to every human on earth, once a second, for the next 1000 years. Of course that sort of "book burning" probably isn't green either, and will lead to the universe imploding or something nasty like that, but whatever. - Wade Dorrell
@Steve: Just a correction. The Christian Science isn't going to be entirely online. Effective April 2009, it will no longer have a daily print edition, but it will print a Sunday edition (magazine style, I think). That's not to say that weekly print edition won't eventually go away, too, but that's not happening yet. - Bryan Person
It's a topic that has kept a bee in my bonnet for ages. It amazes me that it took so long to put someone into that roll given the depth of the BBC archive and its value. - Alex Murray

I can see the utility of motor assist on a utility bike...especially cargo bikes. Or even for a commuter who has to tackle gnarly hills. To me, whatever gets folks on a bicycle is a good thing, though the idea of a motor on a time trial bike seems almost offensively discordant. - Chester
electronic gruppos are a prime example of solving a problem that doesn't exist. What's wrong with cables and their inherent fixability and availability? All I've read so far seems like bike trade folk getting over-excited by whizzbangs and ignoring practical realities. I may be drawing the line on how far tech needs to go. Bad hair in the pro peloton. Possible candidates are just about endless. Given that someone dug up an old picture of Cipo, I'm surprised that nobody, as of yet, has thrown down a picture of Ekimov and his mullet. - Chester

The BBC was once an unassailable force in British media - it had values to be emulated, resources to be envied, and viewing and listening figures of which other media could only stand by in awe. Now its judgment, or at least that of its presenters, stands in question, its resources are shrunk and thinly spread, and even its vast website has been overtaken in terms of popularity by social networking website Facebook. - Emma

Didn't BBC only recently switch from proprietary players and such? Easy to fall the way of AOL if not careful *chuckle* - Michael W. May
I don't understand what the point of the article is, that the BBC should be more like facebook? People want different things from different sites. It seems a bit like saying "flickr should be more like youtube". - Alex Murray

They're very stiff for candid shots, aren't they? I'm not suggesting that they're posed, just that the first family elect appears to still be hyper-aware of media recording devices. - Soup

Meh, no thanks. Unless he wants to set up a webcam and open a Seesmic account, I don't need to see these sorts of candid shots until after his presidency is over. Just my 2¥, of course. Your results may vary. - thepete

Tony makes the point that, if Armstrong does not ride the Tour then one pretty much has to take, at face value, his stated reason for coming back to pro cycling: to raise cancer awareness. I wonder if he's going to now try to round out his palmares with other grand tour and/or classics wins... - Chester

The new Hackney City Academy wants to eliminate the need for heavy rucksacks and is introducing curriculum texts that pupils can access through their mobile phone SIM cards and home computers.

Hell no. Give me books. Digital editions can be handy sometimes but I definitely prefer books. [Edited to add:] Give me a light-weight handheld stylish device with a gesture-sensitive touch screen so that I can rapidly flip pages (with a user-configurable animation) like a book; put my thumb down on a page, flip a bunch of other pages, then lift my thumb up and it returns to that thumbed page; pinch the upper-right corner to 'dog-ear' a page; zoom, flip, highlight, add notes, etc., all through gestures and then I'll consider dropping paper books for digital editions. - Akiva Moskovitz
This is a hamburger from McDonalds that I purchased in 1996.
That was 12 years ago. Note that it looks exactly like it did the very day I bought it.People always ask me - what did you do to preserve it ?
Nothing - it preserved itself. - Iain Baker
